The Butterfly Circus

Has anyone else heard about this little 20-minute movie? It affected me so deeply.

It's been winning awards at various flim festivals and you can watch it on the website below.

Take 20 minutes to watch it--and a few minutes afterward to recover--and I guarantee you'll thank me.

So lovely, gorgeously shot. Thank you for the recommendation, PJ. Also, Mr. Mendez and the Strong Man gave me the same special feelings I got when I saw Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible.

I am captivated by it.

Thank you for sharing it here, so I could view it again.

It's so special.

I'm a little distraught that I can't take the time now to watch it! PJ posted, and Namo, Addy, and doodle like it - I want to watch it NOW!!!

The Butterfly Circus

I have to say, the first 15 minutes were just okay for me, and I wanted to smack most of the actors. That said, I bawled like a baby at the end, and each individual frame is gorgeous beyond belief.

Ok, I saw it.

I am undone.

The Butterfly Circus

Thank you so much for sharing it with us PJ. My only disappointment and one that almost had me clicking the STOP button and continuing to watch it is that Eduardo Verastegui (Mr. Mendez) was in it. Ever since he became a "Born Again Christian" he is one of the most hateful, homophobic men on the face of this planet. He is a fervent anti-gay supporter on all issues.

Marquise is right...I looked him and a few of the other actors up after seeing the film and he's hateful.

I was being too kind about the moustache comment...now that I know how hateful he is I can add that he's a terrible actor.

That does not take away the fact that the film is lovely, however.

Patricia Nell Warren wrote a very good review here and the comments at the bottom are very interesting regarding the evangelical director/producers and stars:

He's a homophobe?! But I want to do boy on boy stuff with him SO BAD!

I was sort of hoping the thanks at the end to "Our Father" was for the parents of the writers/directors.

Beautifully shot film, but when you look at the accomplishments of other quadriplegics, it's a little anti-climatic. So he's able to

be hauled up onto a platform and fall into a pool of water? Check out Todd Browning's Freaks to see the many feats that Prince Randian could perform - and he fathered four children.

Here's just one - and they cut out the part where he actually rolled the cigarette.

I knew I recognized the Will character. He's a Christian motivational speaker, Nick Vujicic.

The having no arms or legs part didn't clue you in as to where you knew him from?

Nope. I don't have any arms or legs myself, so it's not that big a deal.

Honestly, I wish we could combine this thread with the one about Serbian Film! We could talk about the success or failure of these pieces and where we get our sense of their creators' (or in Butterfly's case, its "Creator's") motivations and how that influences out reaction to the final product.

Not a big deal, just not that common an occurence in my circles. No arms? Check. No legs? Check. I even know a man who was born without a mouth - but no arms or legs?
New to my personal experience, and I'd find it memorable.
