Anyone else severely disappointed by the movie? The story is REALLY compelling but the script and a lot of the acting were SO bad.
The best scene was BY FAR the actual exorcism scene -but other than that the movie was really weird. The audience I saw it with laughed through the ENTIRE thing.

There were a few moments that were kinda scary, especially in the exorcism scene...but the movie was more sad than anything. I may have jumped out of my seat, like...once.
I haven't seen a good scary movie in QUITE a bit of time.

Hmmm..Julia Stiles and Liev Schreiber is coming up in "The Omen 666". (Remake of "The Omen") Hopefully THAT won't disappoint either.

Posted: 9/10/05 at 12:01pmThe commercials for this movie scare me like nothing else. Seriously, I can't watch them.

Posted: 9/10/05 at 12:25pmBut you know what's weird? Sometimes, even though the commercial is scary, I can't take my eyes off of the screen. It's like... I don't know, something's going to pop out of my TV and be like "waaaaatch thiiiiiis...." if I look away! And I've seen it on so many times that I know how it starts out, and I just turn away if I hear it coming on!

Posted: 9/10/05 at 3:08pmI saw this last night w/my partner and I enjoyed it very much. It was like Law and Order mixed in with an exorcism. I actually loved it. And while it was scary per se (although I did love the actual exorcism), I thought it mixed in the scary factors well with the trial. And I agree with the post that is was more sad then anything...I actually cried it was soo sad. I felt so bad for Emily and especially her little sisters (her dad and priest too).

Posted: 9/10/05 at 3:11pmI really want to see this movie but the trailer is so misleading that I think a lot of people will be disappointed. The movie is actually about the trial of Emily Rose on whether she was really possessed or just simply crazy. The scenes in the trailer are just flashbacks basically. I still really want to see it though =)

Posted: 9/10/05 at 3:21pmI was kind of torn as to whether I wanted to see it or not because the commercials made it look like a blatant rip-off of The Exorcist. Is this a misconception of mine?

Posted: 9/10/05 at 6:04pmIt's not at all a rip-off of "The Exorcist". I saw it last night and thought that it was compelling.

Posted: 9/10/05 at 6:17pmMy understanding is that it's more of a courtroom drama... but they're marketing it as a horror movie.

Posted: 9/10/05 at 6:18pmckeaton, you're right. There are only a few horror movie elements in it.

You are so right ckeaton. I saw the matinee show of this movie today and it is more of a courtroom drama than a horror movie. It was suspenseful at times but not scarry at all. Everyone has seen the majority of the horror scenes already in the trailer. This movie should have been marketed as a drama not horror film.

Demon-faced people in movies usually scare me. Jacob's Ladder terrifies me to this day.
But from the commercials, I think this movie would make me laugh. Kinda like Skeleton Key.

Posted: 9/10/05 at 8:03pmi saw it last night with a few friends and thought it was very interesting but not very scary. i do admit that i jumped two or three times. the image that stuck with me the rest of the night was when the camera went from her boyfriend sleeping on the bed to her on the floor. that was about the extent of it for me.
