Saw it. ABSOLUTELY adored it. Wahlberg, Bale, Leo and Adams are all terrific and most definitely worthy of Oscar nominations. I'd say the last 3 are all but locks, and I'd love to see Wahlberg come through. Bale seems like a lock to win (his biggest competition is Geoffrey Rush, who is great but can't compare to this). I'd say Leo and Adams are each their biggest competition if they're both nominated. What performances!
The story is odd in its delivery. It's really a portrait of a family, set against a backdrop of boxing. It's directed/ filmed in what seems to be 3 or 4 very different "styles" and that works terrifically well.
It's a wonderfully written, mesmerizingly acted piece. A real triumph for Russell. I loved it.
I'd say it's the third best of the year- with 'Inception' and 'The Social Network' beating it by a hair. But that's strictly IMHO.
Seen it? Thoughts?

I thought it was wonderful. Entertaining and well-paced, but also authentic and detailed. Bale was amazing, this is the best work I've seen from him. Also, Wahlberg has done his strongest work since Boogie Nights.
I was very surprised by Adams, I didn't expect to be convinced but she did a great job. Leo is good, but I didn't see her challenged in any way, you know what I mean?

Posted: 12/21/10 at 7:31pmI saw this today. It was a very formulaic type of movie. But that is part of why I really enjoyed it. I saw it in a theater full of loud Latin men, their baby mama's and their babys running all over the place. . It was interesting especially during the fight sequences.

Posted: 12/22/10 at 2:09am^ with the exception of maybe best actor, the acting category are stuffed with exceptional work... even if it seems like the same five people are being nominated over and over.

Posted: 12/22/10 at 11:12pmI'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I agree that The Social Network is definitely worthy of an Oscar nomination as is 127 Hours, especially James Franco.

Posted: 12/23/10 at 1:34pmFormulaic but satisfying...with some excellent performances. Nice comeback for David O. Russell and its VERY nice to see Amy Adams wriggle out of the "cute, spunky girl" ghetto Hollywood pushed her in and get back to being the character actress she is.

Posted: 12/27/10 at 12:40pmBale surely deserves an Oscar. Geoffrey Rush already has his.

Posted: 12/27/10 at 12:52pmYeah, but Rush gave the better performance...or does that not matter?

Posted: 12/27/10 at 1:04pmI didn't care for this one. The performances were great, but the film was predictable and I felt like I had seen it before.
