But even the sublime PANIC ROOM pales in comparison with that masterwork of masterworks -- the sublime CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.
Ulgh. I threw up a little in my mouth as I typed that. Even my snark has limits.

Posted: 1/6/14 at 3:19pmI have to say, I am a huge Benjamin Button fan. I know there are abundant flaws, but I am enchanted by it every time I pop the DVD in. Zodiac and The Social Network are nothing short of masterpieces. I just popped in Dragon Tattoo and I forgot how much I loved it. I am super excited for Gone Girl!

Not looking to start a fight, but a pet peeve of mine in writing is when people say "In my opinion/I think" since everything you write is clearly your opinion. That is unless you're stating a fact like "Today is Monday." There's no difference in saying "The Game is the best movie ever" and "In my opinion, The Game is the best movie ever."
Obviously it's not incorrect to say it, but I've had several English/writing professors beat that into me over the years.

1. Zodiac
2. The Social Network
3. The Game
gap for me in quality
4. Se7en
5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
6. Fight Club- Fatal mistake to take away the book's ending. We still could've had the Pixies play but the book's ending probably would've done a lot of good in the misinterpretations that movie had, both negatively and positively.
7. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- To me that's actually the all-style, no-substance Fincher film. He really tries his hardest to make a sprawling, classicist film but got stuck with a hokey script which goes so much against his clinical, if cold style. The film, however, has one of the best Criterion Collection supplementals I have ever come across.
8. Panic Room
I have not seen Alien 3 and Fincher disowns that film. So why bother?

I'd probably transpose "Se7en" and "Fight Club," but other than that, strummer, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Can you say more about the ending of the novel vs. the film? Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

The Game is one of my all-time favorite films. I saw it three times the week it was released. I thought it was rather insane that it garnered zero Oscar/GG noms. I haven't bought the Criterion release yet, but it's next on my list.
He did a good job with Dragon Tattoo, but with the exquisite Swedish releases of all three books, it seemed really odd to film an English-language version with some recognizable stars using the exact same story and setting. Having watched the entire series, Noomi Rapace will always be Lisbeth Salander to me. Her performances in all three films were perfection. The girl can deliver an entire monologue with just a glance or a shrug.
