I have seasons 1 and 2 on DVD. I'm so sad. I don't really watch any new shows on TV now except one or two, but I'll still always stop on a Golden Girl rerun. Even when it's the Empty Nest pilot with Rita Moreno.
It is a good inside look in the TV retooling process, however. The only one to survive from the pilot to the actual "Empty Nest" show was what's-his-face, Joe Isuzu. And while he was a similar character in the actual show, he had a different name and job in the pilot, I think.
The Nanny also had one of those awful "let's stuff a pilot in a successful show" episodes, but I don't remember what it was. I didn't watch that show too often.

Was it that episode with Patrick Cassidy(?) as the owner of a hair salon? The episode/pilot was horrible, but was almost redeemed by those tight, tight jeans Patrick Cassidy was wearing throughout the show.
Was that for Empty Nest? I always assumed it was for a tv show, but I never figured out which! That's very interesting to know. That episode bites it big time.
Thanks for explaining that one Calving. I actually watched that very episode last night and could not figure out what in hell I was watching. It was almost surreal.
The storyline is essentially the same, but with the split personality patient and the daughter and Dooley and Moreno, it's easy to see how you could be confused--the set is the same, however...
Oh Lord - that Nanny ep was "The Chatterbox". It achieved legendary status as being the most infamously bad episode of that or any other show that season. I'm a fan of the show so I always go out of my way NOT to watch when it comes on.

Speaking of pilots -- and this is OT, but still slightly Golden Girls related -- have any of you ever gotten a call from this marketing company that sends you a tape of a TV pilot and asks you to watch it? Then, they ask you some questions about it and you get like $50 or so.
I did it once. The pilot was called "Dads," and it was terrible. But then when they called to ask me about it, they only asked questions about the Nestle's Crunch commercial on the video. Nothing about the pilot itself.
A few years later, my mother got the same call and did it. It was the same pilot, but again, the questions were only about one of the commercials.
The Golden Girls tie-in? Rue McClanahan was in the pilot, playing a gruff nanny with a poorly executed German accent.
There's also a link on the site to win a "Wicked" package and lunch with Rue! I'll be entering every day...they could let me win and save the $$ on airfare!
I never paid attention to this show until recently. I've been hooked for the last couple of months.
The sight of Bea dressed as Cher and Sophia dressed as Sonny singing (in that booming voice) "BABE, I've got you BABE" pretty much sealed the deal for me.
I doubt it Bobby--the other girls say she doesn't know them or even remember doing the show--there was a thread here some time ago--Estelle Getty Slipping, something to that effect...
I chose Isn't It Romantic for my fave episode...though I was disappointed that Vacation wasn't a choice...
If you liked that one, Days, then you'd love the Chicken Little musical episode in which Bea sings a bit of Old Man River...
I picked "Forgive Me, Father." Gotta love John McMartin.
But my favorite was always the one where the old lady dies at the city council meeting where they're trying to save her tree. "Hey, Pfeiffer? How would you like a punch in the p-face?"
