My Healthcare Saga:
I finally did everything on the website. Last year, I made $29,000 before taxes (NY Stage being extremely high and screwing me over on my tax return for the past 2 years.) I work two part-time jobs, however one is not steady: I can do anywhere from 0 shifts a week to 7, getting paid accordingly. So it's hard to predict future income for that job. But to be fair, I used the same amount on my W4s to predict it.
After all was said and done, and after what the government was going to pay to "help me out", the cheapest and most basic plan for me was going to be $130 a month. That may not seem like much to some, but to me, it's a monumental sum that I cannot even fathom coming up with for month after month. I've been struggling to find work, and this city doesn't make it easy. Half of my rent goes to my apartment (a small, un-luxorious place in Queens with 2 other roommates) and I'm barely hanging by a thread. This is not to mention my phone bill, food, electricity, internet (only $15), and other various expenses.
Perhaps I'm not wording my thoughts in a grand manner, but I'm confused. There are weeks when I work 7 days a week, 40 hours a week - for several weeks at a time. I'm not sitting at home, enjoying my unemployment and getting food stamps and benefits. Sometimes after bills, I end up with $20 to last me 4 days - not like the guy with that blog. I literally have only $20 so end up buying soups.
Why are people like me getting punished with this system that is supposed to help me out? I apologize for the rant - but it gets to be too frustrating sometimes, and I feel like I'm stuck while others are rewarded.
I'm as jumpy as a virgin at a prison rodeo!
