They NEVER do on the N/Q! I was full of rage when I lived in Astoria. At all times. Living off the A/C/E has made my life much more tolerable, though I'm considering heading uptown to Harlem when my lease is up, and the area I'm going to investigate is off the 1.

I lived off the 1 uptown for a few years and it really is hit or miss. Weekdays things move pretty smoothly, but on construction weekends it can really suck if you are above 125th. Don't ask how many times I saw signs about taking shuttlebuses or other nonsense.

I take the N/Q to work (Mon-Fri) so I luckily don't have to deal with it on the weekend, but all the signs I see about construction makes me wonder how people in Astoria are excepted to travel in and out of the city Saturday and Sunday.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

I live near the 1/2/3 and must say that although I don't use them for commuting (they're further west than where I live and where I work), I use them on the weekends (if one line is down, the others are running). I think if you have all three 'red' lines at your disposal, it might be a little easier.

I was about to bitch about my line, the 6. But then I thought, "Hm, I have to say the trains come often, and they're good about announcements during delays." So maybe I'm not so bad off. The only problem is that for the UES, the 4, 5, 6 is the ONLY option, at least when you're as U and as E as I am.

Anyway, here's some actual data. It's from last summer, so some of the info may have changed.

Reg, my husband and I have moved three different times since coming to Manhattan in 2001. A couple of years ago we finally became apartment owners... but it also meant a move to UES and York Avenue. I'm not complaining but for accessibility, that location is very difficult. I feel your pain. The 2nd Ave line couldn't get here soon enough.
