Speaking of because... I think one of the most interesting developments is the use of because (without a following of) as a preposition, perhaps a bit cheekily, as in North Carolina passed HB2, because Jesus. Normally, prepositions are a closed class - a part of speech that doesn't easily admit new members - so this development is rather unusual.
