Posted: 1/19/07 at 12:58amI'm not really much of a gamer, but I must admit that the Wii is F***ING AWESOME! I haven't had as much fun playing a video game since I was about 9. It's pretty amazing.

Nintendo Wii is sweet. With what other gaming console can you really break a sweat playing?
If I had the money I'd pick one up. Either that or the Xbox 360 - I'd love to play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I just don't want to fail out of college.

I played this yesterday...and even though i'm not HUGE into video games this is the greatest thing EVER.
I like on Rayman there is this choir game, and you have to zoom in on the bunnies that are singing out of key and SMACK them....when you hit them they sing in key again...
and when you hit a bunny that is already singing on key they all scream in terror...it's the funniest god damn thing EVER.
and then there is "bunnies don't know what to do with cows" in which you have a cow lasso'd and you as quickly as possible try to throw it very far...
OMG, seriously...I need one of these....LMFAO

I was into video games around the time of Space Invaders, Missile Command, Defender, Donkey Kong, Robotron, even Pong.
Most video games today hold little interest for me because I'm not a fan of having to learn 8146 different sets of instructions, command, frags, tools, tricks, and whatever slang is used. No patiences for it.
However - I was over at my friends last week playing Wii and loved it. I only played Tennis and Bowling - but had the best time
As reviewers have said, the graphics might not be as good as something like playstation - I don't really care. The "experience" is super.
And the three of us playing Wii reminded me of times my friends and I would get together and play either a board game or Taboo/Pictionary/etc
It's definitely seems more interactive (meaning social) than the other systems.

AGREED Craig...I played the other day fighting over who was next and cracking up with about 7 of my greatest friends...it was glorious...
waaaay better then when the boys get together and play guitar-hero for 8 hours straight and ignore the rest of us :)

Posted: 1/19/07 at 12:58pmI really want to play the Wii. It sounds fantastic! I love the original Nintendo (my first console) because it was simplistic, is the Nintendo Wii easier to understand with the control compared to the Xbox and Playstation (those controllers are a nightmare to me)?

Posted: 1/19/07 at 1:09pmI never got into video games. But since Thanksgiving, I'm hooked on the Wii. I go to my friend's house and we all play tennis, golf, bowl... we have a great time playing together. Totally sold on it.

.

Posted: 1/19/07 at 1:57pmI've thus far only played bowling, but it was lots of fun. I agree that it's easier for more people to really get into it and have a good time.

Posted: 1/19/07 at 2:25pmI was visting someone around Xmas and their son got a Wii. I wasn't really interested but everyone insisted that I try it. They have a HUGE TV in their basement and have cleared everything out of the room so they can move freely. SO MUCH FUN!!Fifteen minutes later I was hooked on bowling and did not want to stop playing. I want one!

Posted: 1/20/07 at 9:44amThe Wii is amazing, The Legend of Zelda is right now my favorite game on the console, it's really cool that you get to actually move around while playing it.

As an avid follower of the Legend of Zelda series, I cannot believe I ever swung a sword by pressing the "A" button.
Most recently, WarioWare: Smooth Moves has me addicted, and the Yoga poses after you beat a boss are fun to do when nobody is watching.
There is a game to be released later (like Wii Sports/Wii Play) that will have the player conduct a symphony. That is one I cannot wait for.

Best Buys and Circuit City's all had units this morning and were giving out tickets. Since I have both a few blocks away, I decided to wake up early and see how bad the line was. The Circuit City I waited at had about 30 or so people (I was about 14th) and we were told they had 48 there. Got Mine! and as I was leaving (they hand't opened the store yet) there was a much longer line.
But I bet TONS of people are home right now setting theirs up.
Fun stuff!

Aww, Craig hates us.
I came back to school from winter break and found that both my roommates had bought Wiis. So I guess I have no excuse not to try it.

WARIOWARE: SMOOTH MOVES is like a game that I would program.
I think this may be the console that gets me back into gaming, something I have not done since I was 10 or so.

I've been an avid gamer since I could remember, and I have dropped off of gaming during college where I just wasn't that interested in playing anymore. There would be exceptions and I did get into the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic RPG on the first X-Box, however, I knew my interests in video games have been waning.
I have always been a Nintendo fan, and got really excited when they announced their new console that will follow the Gamecube. I had no idea what was to come. You guys should've seen the reaction on many gaming sites when Nintendo showed what kind of system the Wii (then named "Revolution") was going to be. Many were skeptical to put it nicely. Even though I was a big Nintendo fan, I admit I was really skeptical of the new control scheme and how it would work for more hardcore games for veteran players. I even doubted it'd get enough casual gamers to to buy the system. But Nintendo's handheld, the DS, really opened doors for smaller independent game companies to put forth their new, creative games and thus garnered tons of support from casual gamers who never played games before. The DS trumps the more powerful handheld, Sony's PSP because they were more about the games and innovative gameplay and less about multimedia and power. I assumed that was the direction that they wanted to take the Wii.
I got it the day it came out (went to 4 different places at 7 am in the morning) and bought the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. That game put my fears of having a real game with substance that will give hardcore gamers what they want to rest. The Wii (thought not as powerful as the 360 or PS3) is more than enough. The control scheme was very intuitive and not difficult or even physically exhausting as people feared that it would be. I can't imagine playing Zelda or any other game the traditional way anymore. Nintendo did make the traditional control scheme the norm back in the early 80s, so I shouldn't be surprised that they were able to reinvent the wheel again.
About the Wii getting mass appeal for the casual person, I can't tell you how many people who were never gamers before or didn't seem like gamers fell in love with the Wii. It's quite amazing to me, and it's good to see Nintendo be successful again after falling behind Sony for almost 10 years.
It's also great the way Nintendo has marketed the Wii. By making a system so different from it's competition, Nintendo has found a way to allow for them to co-exist with whoever wins the PS3/XBox 360 war without being in direct competition with them. Nintendo also has the advantage of letting gamers download old titles from the Nintendo from the 80s, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis of the 90s, Turbo Graf-X, and the N64 from the late 90s to early 2000s. Microsoft let people do that before the Wii came out, but the Wii is the only one to have exclusive Nintendo classics.
They have a great start with the Wii and I hope they keep the momentum up going into next year and the year after that. One of the things I hope they work on is their online gameplay. Nintendo has always had excellent multiplayer games, but can you imagine how much bigger it'd be once Nintendo gets into online gaming? It might rival Microsoft's XBox 360 and their shooter/strategy games in that respect. They already have the Opera browser working on the Wii where you can actually check email and watch youtube on your tv. Maybe more add-ons once they know people can afford them.
