Aside from giving some outstanding performances on screen, he -and his daughter- have certainly launched an outstanding food company. They are ahead in utilizing organic ingredients and good farming practices. Their company has a wide variety of products and in many ways is a model industry.

I'll never forget when he and Ms. Woodward were given the Kennedy Center Honor (together, which I found appropriate - and wouldn't be surprised if it was at their request.) The big finale to the presentation was a choral tribute by participants from the Hole in the Wall camps. His face was worth the price of admission.

And I feel the need to mention a film that I might well be the only person on the planet who actually loved - MR. & MRS. BRIDGE. A Merchant/Ivory film that dealt with the American version of the English suppression that the team usually dealt in. The performances are spot on.

OK, I've got to say this at least ONCE.

This combination damn near killed me. YES, I know they're outlaws, and YES, I know they're both straight. But the thought of them out west riding into the sunset together covered SO many of my bases . . .

If you throw Sam Shepard (circa THE RIGHT STUFF) into the mix, it would account for about 75% of my adult fantasy material!

The outpouring of love is so genuine. I think people everywhere appreciate Paul Newman not just as an artist but as a human being. He taught people how to live...and not only by portraying characters on the big screen. Very sad today.

I never tell this story but.. They shot part's of Mr and Mrs Bridges here in TO in my neighbourhood. The local's went bazooey! He went into all of the local stores spoke w all the merchants to thank them for allowing them to disrupt their normal business life. He took pictures w them ( Poloroids) and signed them all.
It was winter and the ground was covered w those uneven patches of ice.snow w bits of side walk you tried to aim for. I had my head down trying to aim for the sidewalk bits and did not see him come out of his trailer ( w a full scale entourage of A.D. , Hair, Wardrobe, and Makeup people. Neither one of us was really looking ahead and we both literally walked straight into each other. It took a split second for me to recognize him- ( he rally had the most extrodinary shade of pink makeup on) and peripherally I could see the shocked look on the faces of the A.D. et all (The Star has been bumped into - we failed to protect our STAR) I just blurted out Oh I'm So sorry ( typical Canadian) are you o.k.? He just laughed and said no My fault ( honorary canadian) You O.K.? I noded and we parted- no harm no foul just huge respect for his graciousness in this lttle thing. You only get to appreciate this when you've seen the DIVO behaviour of some other famous folk not half as gifted or itelligent OR deserving. G*d bless his memory.

No but in all seriousness, this is so sad I've never actually seen any of his acting, but I ALWAYS get Newman's Own products, and he really did seem like an amazing human being.
