He was disillusioned with theater in New York (and let's face it, New York is the center of American theater), by which I can only assume that he meant Broadway, being that off-Broadway is where much of the risky, smart, artistic stuff is happening these days, so he went to LA to try something other than theater -- not LA theater. People get upset when LA theater gets knocked because there IS some good stuff out there, so I won't say there's nothing good, but you don't leave New York's theater scene for Los Angeles' unless it's for something special, a la Mano Felciano and Sunday in the Park... for example. If you're disillusioned with NYC, you don't go there for better theater.

Exactly, I totally agree with you that if you are disillusioned with NYC, you definetly don't go to LA for better theater.
I guess I'm just curious as to why he moved to LA, which is even worse than NY in terms of being so commercial and cutthroat, not in the theater category but just in general. I guess he just wants to try other things, and maybe he likes the music scene out there. Who knows!
Well, I think with Hollywood, you accept that it's totally commerial. He seemed to have been disillusioned with what was happening on Broadway at the time; who knows if he meant commercialization, stunt casting, crappy work, or what? I remember reading an interview a while back in which he indicated that the motivation was to get enough power behind his name so that someone might write a musical for him, or cast him in another original show, because at this point, fame betters your chances since producers know you can sell tickets. I guess he figured getting into film could make his name more marketable.

Okay, that makes sense. But exactly how famous do you have to be for someone to write a musical for you? I mean Idina got Wicked and she didn't have that much more experience. It would be a shame if he didn't do any more theater, but I can see why he wants to wait for an original production.
Just wanted to let you all know that one of our posters, sweetestsiren, is on the Virginia Tech campus. Fortunately she and the friends she's been able to contact are okay. I can't begin to imagine what it's like to be there right now.
Well, there's no formula. And WIcked was already what, four years ago? Things change fast.
Onto more worldly things, my God, I can't imagine what's going on at VT right now. Scary sh*t.
When I first heard about this at work, I thought to myself "One of the AP girls are of from VA, I hope none of them go to that school!". I'm so glad to hear she is ok.
I thought of Ashley as soon as the news came through. So, so glad that she's okay. What a nightmare.
This is all unbelievable. I can't imagine what it must be like the be there right now. My prayers go out to her and the entire VT community.
As for Adam, I understand wanting to do original material, but never quite got him wanting someone to write a musical for him specifically.
My prayers go out to sweetestsiren and her friends; I hope everything is ok.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I'm safe and fortunately wasn't on campus at the time, but many of my fellow students weren't as lucky. This whole thing is senseless and horrible, and I'm really grateful for the outpouring of support here and elsewhere. Updated On: 4/16/07 at 06:27 PM
So glad to hear that you're ok Ashley.

Take good care of yourself, Ashley. This must be so difficult.

this cheered me up a little bit today, given the weather and the events in VA
Thanks, misschung, that is a cheering picture. It's nice to see you again, mesmerized.
I'm glad you're okay sweetestsiren. God, I hate it when these types of horrible things happen. It's just so wrong...
Thank goodness you're ok Ashley. It must be so scary. Be careful out there, we'll be thinking of you ♥
thanks chloe, I am going to try to keep up again!
I love that bear, miss chung. There should be a rocker Adam bear! I'd buy it!
They're Broadway characters. There was a Roger one, though.
Em - is that the bear that there is a picture of Adam biting it's ear?
