I think it's wonderful that they'll get to do the show onstage together again. And as for Adam being "fat"...he may, yes MAY, have gotten a bit thicker over the years, but frankly that makes me want to see his booty in those pants more now than I did in 1997. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 12

Actually he has looked too thin in my opinion lately. His Bobby Star pictures and recent shows I've seen, he looks very thin.

Not yet, Alex. I've got to find a date that my mom, dad, AND brother can go.

Good luck wih that, Emcee - nothing like trying to coordinate four people's schedules.

Adam is probably just as thin now as he was back in '96, if not more so. He was heavier for Aida, which is kind of justifiable, but since leaving that has lost a lot.

This interview seems to have been conducted before the Rent news. But... 40 shows, Adam? Is he going to do film projects on the side?

Life imitates art for this erstwhile 'Rent' star
Friday, May 4, 2007

By MIKE KERWICK
STAFF WRITER

The universe is having a good chuckle over this, laughing as traces of the fictional character Adam Pascal portrayed on Broadway flush into his reality. Pascal is busy trying to book gigs, finish an album, win over fans and find his song?

The parallel is impossible to dismiss. Pascal is showing shades of Roger, the character he made famous in "Rent."

"Very much so," Pascal said during a recent phone interview. "And basically, it's for the love of music that he held on to and that I do as well. There happens to be other things in the world of entertainment that I enjoy doing as well."

On Cape Cod filming "American Primitive" under the stewardship of director Gwen Wynne, Pascal confessed that music remains his prime passion, specifically the "musicianship of music." He is making his way back to the stage Wednesday, performing at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Manhattan.

"I always love to come back to New York," Pascal said. "B.B. King's is sort of the biggest club venue I've ever played. I certainly hope people come."

Pascal has not been on Broadway in three years, not since closing both "Cabaret" and "Aida." He is living in California with his wife and two boys, trying his hand at the silver screen. Pascal reprised the role of Roger in the film version of "Rent." The movie grossed just $29 million and did not land him any plum roles.

"I certainly was hoping that it was going to," Pascal said. "Ultimately it really didn't. It didn't make any kind of a splash. The thing about Hollywood, unless something makes a splash, nobody cares. I have people telling me all the time ... that they loved the film."

So Pascal, a man of many disciplines, grounds his career in music. He is working with Larry Edoff ("a brilliant piano player"), and the two will begin recording new material this summer. Pascal wants to have a new album done by September and out by Christmas. In an ideal world, he will play as many as 40 shows in 2008.

"The ultimate goal of everything is, 'How quick can I get back home?' " Pascal said. "That's what it all comes down to. They need me around, and I want to be around. As much as I love my career, it's all a means to an end."

And yes, at some point he would like to be back on a New York stage, his every move followed by the house lighting. The role that launched Pascal's career still tugs at him. He misses Broadway.

"I do," Pascal said. "I miss it very much, and I look forward to finding the right thing to go back to."

Thanks Lexi.

As much as I love my career, it's all a means to an end.

That probably sums up what's behind a lot of what he's done in the last couple of years.

Nice article, great quote about being a means to an end. He must miss his family so much when he's touring.

For some reason, I just realized how different its going to be to see Adam and Anthony with other cast members. I'm going to be so nostalgic for the rest of them!
So are the only changes in the cast Adam, Anthony, and Tamyra?

Kind of a moot point now, but IMDb now lists Adam's part in American Primitive as Theodore Gibbs.

misschung, Adam and Anthony were in the Broadway and London productions long enough to perform with many, many different people other than just the original 15, so I don't see how it would be so weird. It's definitely not as dramatic as it was with the movie, having all the original principals BUT two come back. That stood out. Just the two of them aren't enough of a vacuum to create that big of a disconnect between them and the "newbies."

spilled the beans

hey everyone so i had to remove the blog about rent because i announced it too soon. sorry about that. but now that it is offical i can say that anthony and i are very excited to be returning this summer, and we hope you all come back and see us. also once again i am currently on cape cod filming a movie called american primitive. it is a drama set in the early 70's about a gay couple(me and tate donavan) and their 2 teenage daughters, who dont know they are a couple. its been lots a fun and i had my first onscreen kiss with a boy....not so bad...not so good.... but not so bad.
anyway please check out me and larry at bb kings on may 9th.
also alot of you have been asking about goyband. i dont have any realease info. because of the nature of independent film you kind of dont know until you know...but ill keep you posted.

much love

I'll admit I've been too busy lately to really pay attention to the American Primitive stuff...but now that I know Adam's playing it gay with Tate Donovan -- that's fabulous! *enunciated in my most pronounced swishy gay lisp*

Well, that ought to clear things up somewhat, though the "not so bad... not so good" leaves some room for interpretation.

No interpretation necessary. He made a point of saying the "not so bad" part TWICE. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 12

lol at that blog.

I just bought Rent tickets for the boys' third week. It feels a little more real now. My dad and my brother bailed, so it's just me and my mom. They were both really excited when I told them about it after the first leak, but when it comes down to knowing the reality that they actually have to sit in a theater for two and a half hours, they're not so quick to jump the gun. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 12 I'm disappointed -- I wanted them to see this -- but I don't have the energy to be mad at them for backing out.

I've never been able to marshal considerable enthusiasm in my family for seeing shows. My dad especially gets fidgety by the end of the first act. I'm sorry you couldn't get your whole family to see the show - mine don't have much interest, either.

My dad is absolutely obsessed with the concept of rush tickets. He thinks being able to sit in the front row for twenty bucks is just the coolest thing ever, even if the show is terrible. We did it for Good Vibrations (we needed something to do) and he had the best time. It's really funny. I want him to see The Pirate Queen, because even though it's awful, I think he'd just have a blast.

I'm glad my mom is coming with me, though. She didn't really have any interest in the show for the longest time, and then she finally saw it last summer because she wanted to see what the big deal was after had taken such a strong hold on me. She totally embraced it, and really likes Anthony, so jumped at the opportunity to see him in the show.

I didn't know that 'offical' was a word re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 12 This dude needs to take a grammar/spelling course a.s.a.p.!

And how excited am I that Tamyra is playing Mimi? She's going to be fierce.

I don't watch Idol, so I can't offer an opinion, but someone with a strong voice will certainly be needed to keep up with Adam. I wonder if she can act/dance.

Hah, my dad actually wanted to see Good Vibrations because he's a Beach Boys fan. Doubtless he'd also be a fan of cheap tickets except he can't stand waiting in any sort of line.

I love how Adam accidently released the news too early. It's kind of funny...

I got tickets for the matinee of August 25! I'm so excited, because I'll be able to meet both Adam and Anthony for the first time! I seem to be fated to always get put in Orchestra Right, though. It's funny: this'll be my 3rd time seeing Rent and my third time sitting in that section.

I love how Adam apologized for posting that info early, meanwhile Anthony's been talking about it for a month. I could see him getting overly excited and posting that too early, hehe.

skittles - I know they have performed with other people, I just meant that for me, its going to be weird bc I have only seen them perform all together as the OBC. well, and the movie, but thats a different story
