I really thought I was fairly knowledgeable on these things. I wasn't expecting to be done by noon, but 10 hours for two short simple scenes is just mind boggling to me. I still don't get WHAT takes so long. I've always been impatient I guess. I know I am NOT cut out for film now at least.
I decided the Picture Gods must think my one and only pic with Adam is suffient. Whenever he's around I have camera troubles, like at the Queens concert!! Oh well, what can you do
Today was fun. Waayyy too tired to go into detail now.
When we got there, we had to sign in and then waited around for a while until everyone arrived. There were all kinds of logistics to work out -- we had to get our stuff put away and whatnot. Everyone on the crew was really nice and accomodating, making sure we were all okay throughout the afternoon. Filming itself didn't begin for quite a while after we got there, because of all of the logistics. The assistant director came out and introduced himself, made sure everyone knew the basic plot of the film and told us what we'd be doing during the day. He said that he knew a lot of people there were fans of Adam's, and that they were going to be sure to set time aside for him to schmooze with his fans if anyone wanted an autograph, picture, or just to say hi. That's just one of the ways in which they were so much nicer and more accomodating than they needed to be. Adam also made an appearance to thank everybody for coming and helping out, which was sweet.
The first thing we got to watch was Adam and the guy who emcees the event at the hotel do a short scene, which had some well-written Jewish humor in it. They're just sort of peeking out from behind the curtain and Bobby is asking about Kaballah and stuff. After that, the crew spent a while re-seating us and arranging us for the crowd shots. We had shoot laughter reacting to the opening act for Bobby's shot, the entrance for the Rabbi and his Kaballah scholars, confusion at Bobby's introduction and a bunch of shots of being shocked/offended by Bobby's pelvic thrusting and other "obscene" dance moves, after which people would get up and leave because they were so offended.
I got to say hi to Adam during the lunch break, when we went outside for some fresh air. He was incredibly sweet, and he just gives the best hugs ever.
After lunch, we went back into the theater and did some more reaction scenes for a while. Adam was great; he'd walk across the stage waving every now and then to keep people entertained, his hoodie generously half-unzipped. Then we had a break to get changed, because the rest of the shoot was for scenes that were taking place on a different day. The stage was being set up, so we had a long time to wait. There were fake flames on either side and fancy lights for the performance. I had been beginning to think that maybe he wouldn't be performing after all, but hearing some music gave me hope again. I ran outside to go to the bathroom, and realized that a crowd had formed in the back part of the lobby, where the music was coming from. Adam and his two back-up dancers were practicing. They were playing music in a boom box, and at first I thought it was just whatever was around. It took me a while to even recognize Adam's voice, because it was so over-produced in that nineties techno-pop kind of way. The dance was an odd... Jewish hip-hop dance thing, and poor Adam looked like he was concentrating so, so hard. He wasn't half-bad. A little too white, a little too Jewish, but not bad.
We went back inside and got ready to film the reactions to Bobby's final, redeeming performance. We had to cheer and be amazed and whatnot. For each reaction shot, we had been given some sort of focal point, whether it was a mic or the AD pretending to be Adam. This time, Adam stood at the focal point and made silly faces, which was certainly fun. He danced a little bit, because the song was playing -- we were supposed to rock out to it, or something. The final two takes had Adam and the two dancers actually perform the song; Adam was lip-synching to the track, but he was really good at it. Until he moved away from the mic on the stand with no change in volume, I was sure he was actually singing. His dancing was a total throw-back to the Cabaret era, but he was kind of adorable. He got more comfortable with it as the song went on, too. It was a really great way to end the night, even though everyone was totally exhausted.
Overall, I had fun. It was tedious and long and tiring, but as a total non-actor, I was fascinated to get a glimpse into the industry. Getting to see Adam one-on-one was a bonus, and the performance was totally worth it.
I just got home a little while ago. It was a long day with traveling from Westchester to the city and then back home, but still a lot of fun. I need to eat something!

Wow, great details Em! It sounds like it was fun and that Adam kept everyone entertained. Wait..did he actually do the pelvic thrust? Lol.
How big was the theater? A lot of people?
It's not very big, but they only needed enough people to fill it about halfway, so it wasn't terribly crowded, thankfully. That probably would've been chaotic.
He didn't, no. That's part of the other scene. Someone asked him to while he was practicing, and he was like "uuuum, I don't think so."
It's funny, I mean, I know it's basically his job to be nice to his fans (in the sense that while he doesn't have to be, it comes with the territory for those who choose to do it), but I can never quite get over just HOW sweet he is. He really knows how to keep people happy.
it was nice meeting you, sweetdisaster!!
It was great meeting you too!
I think everyone else pretty much summed up everything, so I only have a few things to add. When I got there Amy Davidson was in the bathroom with her little dog. It took me a minute to realize who she was without make-up, but she talked to us for a minute and seemed pretty sweet. After Adam came out and thanked us, he mentioned that "his twins" were in the audience. People were saying that they were the girls who went to his shows back in the APB days, so I'm assuming that's who they were. His outfit at that point was pretty awful- black swishy pants, a black and neon colored, opened shirt and tank top- and we joked that he picked it out himself.
We only broke for lunch around 4 and went outside to get some air because the theatre was so hot inside. Of course, everyone's bags were inside locked up with our cameras and phones. A girl was nice enough to take our pictures for us and said that she'd email them to us. He left saying something along the lines of "I gotta go practice my dance for you now so I can make a fool out of myself."
I don't think anyone had any idea that it would take so long, and I know I wasn't expecting for the shoot to be run the way that it was. The crew was very nice though, and joked around a lot. They seemed like they were having a lot of fun. Later, Adam came out and was dancing with them on stage. It was really cool to see how that type of scene was put together, though.
We started to think that we wouldn't be seeing the actual performance, but went upstairs to get our bags and saw that Adam had changed into all black. I got to sit with Emcee for that scene (we were kicked out of the front row because our legs were showing), but it was alright because they wanted us to get up in the aisles and dance. Seeing him do that scene was worth the entire wait. My friend that was sitting a few rows infront of us had definitely had enough and was getting really annoyed at this point, but we stayed until we got to see it. He was concentrating really hard, but he did really good. I was impressed! It was weird that we couldn't tell at first that it was Adam singing the song. It actually made me really excited to see how the movie turns out, even if it looks incredibly cheesy. At the end we had to pretend to be mesmerized by him holding out a long note.
Also, Emcee, do you still have his pen?
Updated On: 12/18/06 at 11:38 AM
LOL, I do. It wasn't so much his as the pen he stole from a fan, but that's ok. I felt sort of dumb whipping it out of my backpack at the end of the evening and being like "LOOK! I'm giving it back!" I used it on my history final! It has a cushion-y grip.
Other than the long hours, it sounds like everything went well. I was actually considering going when it was supposed to be last weekend. I could've gone yesterday but I geeked out. Glad everyone had such a good experience with Adam.

I'm still confused as to how the dance was so sexy and shocking! What was he exactly doing up there? I can't imagine choreographed dancing, short of pelvic thrusts and grabbing your crotch, is exactly too overwhelming, even for Orthodox Jews.
We didn't get to see the "shocking" dance, but they told to react as if he opened up a trench coat and flashed us. Then we all had to walk out because we were so offended. There was a part in the choreographed dance that we saw where he covered his crotch and kinda bounced around, though.
First his towel, now his pen, the is beginning to be a habit Em. We may need to pose an intervention soon, I'm sure my mom will let me come to NYC to help you. It's for a good cause after all.

That phrase is honestly hilarious. Good work, Cris Judd.
Well, the song was.... oh God, I wish I could remember the lyrics. But it was something about like, being in love and all that, so the choreography was so you couldn't see just how in love the speaker was. Hilarious.
Hee, Sarah. I didn't take it, don't worry. I asked him to borrow it because someone needed it to give out an e-mail address and nobody else was willing to ask him. Then he ran off without it. :)
Thanks for all the recaps, guys. I really hope we get a chance to see the finished product. Interesting to hear about the "twins" again. Did anyone see twins there? This is the only picture of them I know of, and they're not particularly recognizable from it.
I've been a little skeptical of the idea that Adam might have read this thread on occasion, but the joke about picking out his outfit himself kind of convinces me.
Hehe, we joked about it. He didn't. Thankfully!
I had never heard about the twin girls before yesterday. They were there, he acknowledged them, but I would've thought I'd have seen them before if they're at a lot of his stuff. Since I am too.
You mean he hadn't actually picked out the outfit, I assume. It does sound like a bit much even for him.
Maybe the twins haven't been around NYC for a while or something. The picture comes from the old Adam fansite called I Liken a Razor, where they're referred to as the "infamous dancing twins," I think. I believe Lexi found some reference to them getting up on stage and dancing during one of the APB shows.
I was watching the playback on the little screen, and if I saw correctly (though I was far away), the shot looked like it neck up, so his shirt wasn't really in it. So maybe it didn't matter what he had on? I could be totally wrong, but just thought I'd throw it out there. :) It could very well have been his costume, though. It was a bit much.
You might be right; I got the impression they were original Rent heads, or at least old school fans. In comparison, I'm still so new to the scene.

I'm missing something..who are the "twins"?
We were high up in the back of the theatre at that point because it was when they were filming the first scene. The twins were down in the front, so I only saw them from behind. Adam said hi quick and that he hadn't seen them in a long time, so that might be why you haven't seen them before.
Alex, the twins are mentioned and pictured on the site I linked below. Apparently they were much in evidence at the Adam Pascal Band gigs during and after Rent.
I liken a razor
Sounds awesome guys, and I'm completely jealous. And I'm glad Adam was incredibly sweet by all accounts.
When/if the movie comes out, I'm most looking forward to seeing the dancing. If it's comparable to Cabaret...
2 finals down, 3 to go.
I'm glad you guys all had a good time. Sounds like it was fun. Thanks for the recounts
It was a lot of fun.
Did that girl send anyone else their pictures yet?
