I'm not applying to colleges, Ariella, if that was what you were thinking. Just applying to local high schools. Well terachers where I go to school think of it the same way to, just for high school.
Mandi, can you pick one up for me too?
You have to apply for high schools? Ick.
Yup, it get's pretty scary, inbetween the school visits, interview & applications.
Ugh I'm going camping tomorrow. For the rest of the week. 15 miles of hiking! I'm such a city girl
ETA: Well I'm off to bed now. I'll talk to you all on Firday. If I'm back in one piece
Lexi - Understood now. I apologized there for misinterpreting what people were saying, and now I hope it can be all put to rest. :)
picturetaker - My boyfriend made me hike for six hours with an elevation gain of 3500 km. I felt like I was going to DIE at the end. :P
And the best part of an otherwise crappy day was that I got some cool stuff from Larry Edoff's manager in the mail. I had asked if I could post a few pictures and video from Larry's site and she sent me everything from the two L.A. concerts plus "Duende," completely by surprise! Mmmm, Larry's voice is like honey. Now I'm all set for seeing both Larry and Adam, if only they would come to Canada. :P

Larry videotapes the entire show? I wasn't aware of that, although it's probably a smart move on his part.
I think, perhaps, that it's either his manager or his wife that does so. Debbie, Larry's webmaster, said that his wife would be sending the multimedia stuff, but when I got it, it was from his manager. Maybe his wife is his manager? Who knows. At least we have one person in a management type of position that is looking out for both Larry and Adam fans. :)
That reminds me, I should probably dig out an old thank you card and send it off to her...but I only have ugly ones. Maybe I'll buy a pretty one tomorrow. *g*
ETA: Yup, after reading the linear notes inside Larry's CD, it seems that his manager is also his wife. :)

picturetaker, I also had to apply for high schools. It was a pain in the ass at the time, but I wound up going to a much better school than the one my neighborhood was zoned for and I wasn't quite so clueless about the process when it came time to apply for college.
I can't even get my mind around applying for high school, though I guess some people even apply for nursery schools these days.
Connie, it's great Larry's manager sent you that stuff. There are a few clips Larry linked on his site which I assume are from what she taped. They're kind of distant and not great sound, but a lot better than nothing.

Well, I'm assuming that Larry's manager (and wife?) didn't want to take up one of the good seats, not to mention that I'm sure she wanted Larry in the picture as well. I'm kind of torn about taking video from the front row - I don't want to remember my experience as me worrying about the camera rather than enjoying the songs, but it's always nice to have something by which to remember a concert.

Sorry a little late in the convo- Lexi what show are you going to? Those seats are awesome! I was really surprised how quickly the seats sold. I got them a few weeks ago and got row G right in the center (Queens).

I'm going to one of the Metropolitan shows and the Queens show.
I think I'll try to get a few photos; I like to have at least a handful. And since Adam is clearly unopposed, I'm going to take audio.

"Would you like me to email this to you?"
That comes after "hi." And that much is a big step!
Are the tickets for the Metropolitan Room shows on sale yet?
Jessica, they're not selling them in advance but they are taking reservations. Hope you can go!

I'm writing an essay about acceptance and have very little profound to say about the topic.
It's funny that something I struggled with so much in middle school (and high school, to a lesser extent) is inspiring so little. All I can say about the topic is that we all yearn for it, and how the implicit decisions regarding acceptance are made has always baffled me.
What's the context for this essay?

We're supposed to describe a scene from our lives (trust me, I would have picked something different, but it's a long story as to why I can't change it now) and use it as a springboard for reflection on a larger topic - in my case, the universal desire for acceptance. Why do we all want it, who decides who is accepted, how we worry about ourselves being accepted while oftentimes not caring about others' similar desires, etc.
Sorry, this probably belongs on the banal thread.

I remember that assignment all too well. That's the essay I was telling you about that my mom was, um, rather upset with.

It's so hard! I essentially piegonholed myself into having to write about this due to the "progression," and I have literally nothing to say.
It seems like what you wrote earlier was a pretty good outline. One thing that popped in my head for some reason is a show about meerkats I saw once. One little guy had gotten separated from his group and had to seek acceptance from another. Basically it seemed that he had to show he wouldn't challenge the leader of the new group. It goes back to the animals, if that's any help.

I finished. But it's so bad. And this is only draft number one of four.
