I was out around 10 a.m. and it was COLD. But it's really beautiful out now.
It's a perfect fall day, but yikes, it's later than I thought. I slept really late today, due to never really catching up from my late night last Sunday. Updated On: 10/14/06 at 03:17 PM
Jealousy abounds... I'm so excited for you guys, though. Can't wait to hear about it! Maybe Adam will come up with a new word.
I'm a little jealous too. I would love to get the chance to see him perform live at some point in my life.
Woot! What a night! The screams are still ringing in my ears. (It was exciting, but I wish some of the screamers hadn't been right behind me.) There were only a handful of empty seats left, if any. The place was pretty packed. Whereas the Metropolitan show was cozy, mellow and funny, the Queens Theater seems like the perfect venue for Adam's performance, allowing him a large stage to prowl around on and the kind of space his voice is best suited for. This show was electrifying.
And - Adam sang a brand new song. Lexi had found mention of him doing a new song last night in Bay Shore, but since there's always a chance for a misunderstanding with this type of thing, we waited to hear if he'd do it tonight. He did, and it's a knockout, very dramatic and somewhat dissonant musically, which I liked very much. It's called "The World Cannot Wait." Unfortunately I don't have a strong sense of the lyrics, as Adam's singing of the verses was very quiet, but it seemed to be a love song. It's one I'm certainly looking forward to hearing again.
Here's some more hopefully good news. Adam mentioned that this part of the tour was ending, but that he'd be back in January. Whether he simply meant back touring, which we know he'll be doing in the midwest and down south, or specifically back to New York wasn't clear, but here's hoping.
I'm the first to report because I left Emcee, siamese dream, orangeskittles and bdwaygirl back at the theater waiting for Adam to come out. As some of you know, there was a party after the show, with cheese platters and free drinks. (Note to self: cosmos are REALLY good.) Of course we hoped that Adam would show his face, but there were family and friends in the audience (Adam said his sister was there), and the security people kept saying he wasn't coming out. Actually, they kept saying "he's already on the number seven train," but we all knew that wasn't very likely.
I decided to come home, since I wouldn't have tried to speak with him anyway, so hopefully the others will be back with something interesting to report.
Apparently Adam was already on his way back to CA.
And Larry said they'd be back in NYC in April (I think that's what Em said).
Thanks, Fantab. I didn't know they were planning that far in advance.
Weighing in my two cents, as I was there as well.
I for one didn't like this venue as well as the Metropolitan Room. I really enjoyed the intimate enviroment the Metropolitan Room provided and personally thought the sound translated better there. Tonight I was sitting about three rows from the back of the theater, and at times the sound didn't sound good to me at all; I actually winced a few times. Now this could have been partly due to Adam and his seemingly inability to hold a microphone properly, but I just thought his voice sounded sweeter and warmer last Sunday and am attributing that, in large part, to the venue.
I also thought the audience was slightly more responsive last Sunday than tonight; again though this is coming from somebody who was sitting in the back where I'm sure the audience was a lot more subdued than up in front. Also from my vantage point, the theater was probualy 85% sold out, so not too shabby.
Intersting tidbit, my friend and I bought tickets tonight at the venue, and got the tickets for $20 a piece; apparently they were offering student prices if you bought the tickets in person, so that was a nice bonus.
To note, as Chole mentioned, there were a lot of Adam's family and friends in the auidence; his parents (or at least mom and step-father?) sat in row K, right near me on the aisle. A slightly obnoxious fangirly lady made sure to let everyone in the general vicinity know this lil tidbit. Before the show a lot of people were stopping by to say hello to them and they were waving to a good number of people across the theater.
I enjoyed the new song as well, although I'm starting to notice he tends to use a lot of analogies towards nature, and this song was no different. Loved that he sang it with no guitar.
Did anyone else who was there notice that when Adam threw down his shaker during 'What I Did For Love' that it broke open a bit? Ha. I didn't imagine that did I?
Overall, a splendid show though and I am glad I decided to spend the money to see him again, as it was a totally last minute, i.e. 4:00 PM, decision.
I was in the front row, which probably made a difference. I think that the balance of voice and instruments was better at the Metropolitan, but other than that preferred the Queens Theater. I felt Adam felt freer to really let go. (He might also have been in slightly better voice tonight.)
The audience Sunday did more talking back to Adam, certainly, and that was a lot of fun. I probably got the full force of the screamers, which was practically all I heard from the audience tonight. They really sounded more appreciative, plus there was the standing ovation, a rose someone threw (and almost hit him with) and Adam thanking the audience for being so great.
You guys, Wickedrentq and I found Adam after the show!! So random. We walked back and forth trying to see if Adam would materialize, and we notice a small group of 12 or so girls running dow nthe stairs. S0 of course we followed!! Some girl was like (I know these 10 people, I don't know anyone else" there were maybe 30 people down there all together? So these 12 girls go through a door and the rest of us have a door slammed in our face. Bizzare. We wait a few more minutes, and the group of girls exits. Then a security guy says they will take two groups of ten of us back to see Adam@! Of course everyone ended up shoving and pushing but Amanda and I made it in! Adam was so sweet and grateful and wonderful. He was so friendly with everyone, giving lots of hugs and such. Unfortunately, he did have to go and there was a lot of pressure to get a pic and RUN but my camera was being an ass so my picture didn't come out =*( Bummer, but at least I saw/hugged him! eek!! He looked fabulous. I really cannot wait for his next show!! It was a dream.
I find it amazing that two people sitting in different parts of the theater can have two very different experiences. Sitting in the front couple rows, as you were, always creates an exciting experience for sure, but from where I sat I just didn't feel the same connection to the music and Adam that I felt last weekend. The music was amazing, his voice was more than fine, but I just felt like something was missing.
And just to stress, I *loved* the show tonight, it is just that the show last Sunday felt a little more special somehow.

So... the show was amazing and all that good stuff. Everything begging to be said has already been said, I think. I also enjoyed the Metropolitan Room as a venue more than the Queens Theatre - I don't know if the Metropolitan Room had a better sound system or if, as matjomae said, it had something to do with the way Adam holds the microphone or something along those lines.
He changed "See Me Shining" a bit - he changed the verses around a bit and added a new line somewhere in there. I also liked the new song (and am still kind of grinning that Larry thanked me for my inspiration in playing it, heh). The only real lyrics I remember from it were "the world cannot wait for a love this sublime" and possibly something about running to the plains? Yeah, I don't know, but it was a great song.
Trying to find Adam after the show turned into a bit of a disappointment. The employees and his security guard kept saying that "he's gone, he's on the 7 train," but knowing that they often lie about that sort of thing, skittles, Emcee, and I decided to wait. Later, Larry came out from backstage, and suddenly his wife appeared. I told Larry's wife that I love her pictures (the ones on Larry's website) and her videos. She thanked me and was so incredibly sweet! I then spoke to Larry, thanking him for playing a new song, and as he was opening the door to take us backstage, we found out that Adam had just driven away. I don't know if Larry reads this, but if he is... I want to say thanks to him and his wife for being some of the most helpful, sweetest people I've met.
As skittles, Emcee, and I were discussing on the way back, we wish that the people at the theatre/Adam's security guard would have just been honest with us. To be fair, one of them said that he wasn't going to sign anything... but then why let a select number of people backstage after telling us to wait upstairs? And why tell everyone that he's already left on the 7 train? I understand that he has to catch a flight early tomorrow morning and he's tired from the tour, but if someone would have just said, "look, he's leaving through a different door because he's tired," I would have been a lot happier.

Adam was incredible. He sounded a little bit tired and strained in comparison to last weekend, but that's understandable, and he still sounded absolutely gorgeous. The seats were almost too close, but I had such a good time. I don't know who wrote the new song, but it's beautiful.
Oh, and I got stunning audio, as well as hopefully a good pics.
Larry's such a sweetheart. I'm really glad we got to chat with him. The timing was all poor and really frustrating, but honestly, the shows this week were so phenomenal that it's truly only a minor disappointment. He'll be back.
Yes, I like how most of the songs were done slightly differently each night. By the way, I meant to ask before, how did Adam change a line of (I think) "Maybe This Time?" It was when he walked over to the right side of the stage and he sort of said to the people over there.

He said "you're late," I think. Heh.
Okay, thanks. They must have been *really* late then.
ETA: About finding Adam after the show, he seems to take a sort of Darwinian approach when he's not going to come out and see a huge crowd. Those that have the luck and persistence to be in the right place at the right time get to see him. The same thing happened at some of the shows last April - some people happened to wait outside at the right door.

I'm glad it was so much fun. You guys clearly enjoyed yourselves. There's really nothing like Adam live. I'm really excited to hear the new song, but I guess it'll have to be off the CD because I'm not seeing him until January. Presuming, of course, the CD is out on time, unlike Civilian. Anyway, glad it was so awesome. I know what you mean about the screamers, Chloe. There were a bunch behind us in L.A. Night all, and happy Adam dreams.

I think so, Chloe.
I'm trying to think of other moderately funny moments.
After Adam's Book of Endings speech, I said "but we love you, Adam!" and he looked directly at me (I was front row, dead center... and there was almost no space between our seats and the stage) and said something like, "thanks, doll."
Later, when he was introducing See Me Shining, he said something like, "it also really helps [one write a song] if you're almost thrown out of the house and you want to say you're sorry," to which there was this resounding chorus of "awww"s. He then said something like, "okay, just stop." Not so funny on here, but I cracked up then.
Aww, I'm glad that it was another good time! Larry sounds great. Sorry that some of you didn't get the chance to talk to Adam, though.
I think his exact words were "Thank you, babe," which is even better, in my opinion.
Thanks, Ashley and Ariella. Wish you could have been here too.
Yeah, he just inserted a "you're late!" as someone walked in.
I thought he lowered part of Maybe This Time, but I'm not sure.
Frankly, as this point, it's like... what am I going to say to him, you know? I'm so quiet. I wanted to wish him luck, but it probably wouldn't have actually come out. =P It's not a huge loss; Sunday night was really nice, and... in all honesty, it's all about the performance.
I loved "Maybe This Time" even more tonight. I felt his concentration in it was so intense. I think it would be interesting if he did the whole thing very quietly but with that same intensity. It could be even more powerful. As it is, he always blows me away with that song.
here i posted this over on the other thread on the main board but thought i post it here too.
So I was at the show tonight and it had been awhile since I had seen an Adam concert. It was wonderful. It seems that he has grown in his vocals, and it was such an enjoyable performance. His new stuff sounds great and I will definitely be looking out for. He also seemed to be in such great spirits and looked like he was having a blast. Larry was fantastic on the piano and what a lovely singing voice. I had such a good time tonight.
So the whole meeting him not meeting him thing. It was said that he would come out and sign autographs and then as people were waiting people kept saying how he was gone and that he wasn't going to come out because he had an early flight to LA. So there are two levels at this venue, and people kept going from downstairs to upstairs trying to find out some solid information. Final downstairs there was a group of people, say maybe 10 that they brought through this door thing and then they said no more. So everyone else was like what is going on? So my mother asked someone who worked there to go in and find out some information and report back to the rest of us so we knew what was going on. In my opinion, it would have been fine if he just bolted and that was that. But to be so misinformed and only allow ten-ish people back didn't seem fair to everyone else. So the gentleman comes back and says we can take some more back. So I got to go back with my mother, our other friends and a few others. We walked back and waited in like a green roomish type area with a couch and such and he comes out this door. Super sweet, talking to everyone, hug and kisses and took pictures with everyone and then after he was done with everyone he left. Everyone was so happy and when we came back out the door the whole crowd and vanished and left. I felt bad for them because I wish the whole situation would have worked out for everyone. But still it was a great night and I had such a great time.
Maybe This Time is one of my favorite, favorite songs ever from one of my most beloved shows, so it's always thrilling to hear him sing it.

I got video of the last two or so minutes of the concert (when Adam does his rockstar thing during What I Did for Love), and although it's amazing, I'd just like to send out a special thank you to those obnoxious girls in the second row for nearly ruining it with their piercing screams.
