This is a little off-topic, but you girls were with me from the beginning of this. Today is the day I finally get to see Wicked. I'm really excited.
Sarah, have a great time! I hope you enjoy the show.
No Vacancy does win, of course, but the crowd doesn't agree and calls back The School of Rock to the stage. Even before I was a fan of Adam's I felt a little sorry for No Vacancy.
I remember watching School of Rock at my 13 birthday party; all of my friends were cheering for the School of Rock band to win but I was the only one who wanted No Vacancy to win. I couldn't help it that I thought the lead singer was a babe
Have an awesome time, Sarah!
When I first saw School of Rock, I spent most of Battle of the Bands convincing my friends that it was Adam at the start and end of the movie. The hair change confused people.
I didn't even know Adam was in the movie until last year when I became a fan.
The hair change thing was a big mistake. The director talks about that in the commentary. Lots of people didn't realize that the band who wins the contest at the end is the same band that kicks Dewey out, which is a rather big plot point. He also credits Adam with singing Heal Me well enough for it to be realistically the winner. It was deliberately written to be a somewhat mediocre song.
The first time I saw the School of Rock, was before I was of fan of Adam. After I found out that it was him, I watched his scenes w/ intensity. I love the song "Heal Me, I'm Heartsick."
In the Kids Commentary of the movie, the kids mention that they got to see Adam in Aida before it closed.
Yay Sarah! I saw someone mention Wicked being in Toronto yesterday and wondered when you were seeing it!
I didn't know Adam was in School of Rock until long after it came out. I have this aversion to Jack Black, so it's not like I was going to see it on my own.

Have fun Sarah!
Why did they decide to change Adam's hair in the first place?
I'm going to see The Prestige tonight..had anyone seen it?

I have to write a three-page paper describing a scene in which I've witnessed men and women interact within the framework of men's actions dictating women's reactions, i.e. a scene showing that men are the "cause" and women produce the "effects" in a giant cause-and-effect relationship.
There are so many scenes where this could apply that I don't even know where to start. Help? Even general help? Heh.

By scene do you mean something from a play or movie?
You mean like, Adam drinks bottle of water- girls scream. Adam takes off jacket- girls scream. Adam throws shaker down mid-song- girls scream.

No, I meant a scene from real life, although I think you could probably apply it to a movie as well. I realize it's a bit bizarre that I'm asking others for help to think of a scene from my life, but so much of what we do is so common anyway.
Skittles, that's actually... kind of an amazing idea. I'm sure my professor has no idea who Adam Pascal is, but that kind of describes the prompt to a T.
That's funny, skittles! But it's part of the whole male performer/hysterical female fans phenomenon that goes back to Rudolph Valentino at the start of the mass media age. Maybe you could write about it in general too.
LOL. That actually IS a really good idea.
And Sarah, yay!!

The thing is that I'm sure it could go the other way, with a female entertainer inspiring similar actions within young males. It's definitely more common with young girls, though.
So apparently Adam's step-father told a young teenage girl at one of Adam's shows "never to give up on your dreams, because you might end up like our son."
All together now... awww!

It's possible, I guess, but... I think the reactions are different. I feel like it's pretty rare for teenaged boys to squeal and scream and throw themselves at people.

Oh yeah, exactly. It's a question of "wow, she's damn hot" versus girls literally jumping on top of male entertainers.
I don't think straight teenaged boys feel it's cool to actually idolize anyone of the opposite sex. It's quite a different dynamic, which is interesting too.
Well, to use an example, my brother and his friends are all really big fans of bands and musicians, but they're mostly male; Dave Matthews, Bruce Springsteen, the list goes on. And I think they truly do "idolize" them in the sense that his group of friends are all musicians and they admire these people. But I don't know that fangirls throwing themselves at an artist of the opposite sex because he's drop-dead-gorgeous is a form of idolitry in that way; sure, they admire them (in some cases) but a lot of it, IMO, is just drooling over a performer they love, and not idolizing them like "wow, I wanna be like that!" So I think boys and girls seem to idolize performers in different ways, but I think you're right about feeling it's not cool to gravitate that way, and stuff.
That's my impression too - the boys idolize another guy that they want to be, and the girls idolize a guy that they want to have. I guess girls idolize some female performers to an extent too, but without quite as much screaming.
Exactly.
The show was amazing. And I was completely surprised by the end, and surprised that it hadn't been spoiled. Shoshana Bean was amazing, her voice was so powerful, DG and NGD were brilliant. Megan Hilty had a great Popular, it was so good she had Shoshana laughing. I got autographs and bought the Grimmerie, and got a fast picture of Shoshana because she was in a rush. It was really exciting to see someone who I had actually heard perform before and knew who she was.

I love Shoshana Bean's voice with all my heart.
Awww, yay! I'm glad you liked it! I'm also glad you got to see Shoshana and Megan instead of some 5th replacement Elphaba/Glinda no one ever talks about. :-P
