I don't think your being harsh at all Ariella, you defiantly do bring up some interesting points.
I disagree. What show should Adam be doing now that he's snobbishly turned down? There are only a handful of new shows each year, compared with the hundreds of movies made, and obviously he didn't get offered anything in theater he felt good about. He's got a very good track record on Broadway and probably doesn't want to spoil it.
I think Adam has done pretty well with his career choices so far. The only real miscalculation was Temptation. With most actors the ratio is exactly the opposite. He's managed to support his family and work with good material a lot of the time, which is quite an amazing achievement for anyone in this business. Have a little faith and don't be so quick to jump to conclusions.
ETA: I should also mention that being positive really doesn't mean you're spouting an endless stream of compliments - I wasn't being quite serious when I wrote that. It's more about focusing on what's good and ignoring what's not.

I agree. Look, I'm usually the last person to be overly positive, and the film admittedly looks awful, but it's not as if he's been offered a slew of brilliant material (or what he feels is brilliant material) and turned it all down in order to make Goyband. I want him back on Broadway as much as anyone else, but since he's apparently deemed that out of the question, getting a starring role in something is a step in the right direction. As skittles said, it's better than him appearing in an endless amount of guest roles on Law and Order, and it's not as if a major studio is going to cast him in a lead role at this time.
I know, I know, the film looks terrible, but try to cheer up a bit.
Oh, God. It's actually called Goyband, isn't it?

I don't know, I thought it was at least moderately funny... and keep in mind that working titles change all the time.
Yes, and I hope they change it. They need something more in the romantic comedy vein.
The funniest thing about it for me is that... I grew up at the base of the Catskills, so I've definitely been to hotels like the ones in the plot with my family. No joke.
I recognize that he has to do something definite with his career - he can't go around playing colleges for the next ten years. And "snobbery" was definitely the wrong word. I guess I just wish he was back on Broadway, and that there was a better vehicle than this to get his name back out there. However, taking a leading role is a step in the right direction, so I'm keeping an open mind. I'm sorry. Being sick never puts me in the best of moods.
And the whole thing sounds pretty funny, doesn't it?
I don't know, I always feel like I come in on the wrong time for these conversations, but everyone does bring up the right arguments. I mean, yes, he's doing what sounds like a ridiculous film, but I guess you also have to view it as, hey, at least he has a job. But in all honesty, I just hope he comes back to Broadway agian; I really, really hope he does.
So he's fine with being snobbish (I hate to use that word but can't think of another right now) about theater projects, but he's willing to accept ANY bone they throw him in the movie industry?
Would you prefer him accept any bone they throw him in the theatre industry? A decent role in a crappy movie (not that this necessarily is, I'm just saying hypothetically) is MUCH better for his career than a decent role in a crappy show. That's the way the entertainment industry works. Movie > TV > commercials > rodeo clown > theatre
I don't see how it's snobbish (or whatever term you want to use) to choose a movie role that will pay much better, for much less work AND give him relative artistic freedom- much more so than being given a replacement track in a show on Broadway and being pigeon-holed there as a romantic leading man. He's right- there aren't that many dynamic, interesting roles for someone in his position. For god's sake, his last role on Broadway was the Emcee; it'd be pathetic for his comeback to be the 5th replacement Fiyero. Or, god help us, Roger.
Speaking of Cabaret, other than Raul, there are no other former Emcees currently working on Broadway (ok, some were total stuntcasts, but still). It's not that Adam is necessarily being a snob about it- there are a lot of actors that can't find good roles on Broadway. At any given time, 90% of Equity actors are unemployed in theatre. That's just the way it works. Y'all are noticing Adam's case because you're his fans and paying attention to his career choices, but he's HARDLY the only actor out there with this issue.
The "rodeo clown" part made me laugh harder than it should have. But you're right; unless he's doing a blockbuster show, Broadway isn't going to throw his career into much higher gear in the grand scheme. I want him to come back, too, but what he's doing makes at least a little bit of logical sense.
None of the former Emcees, really? I believe you, but that's shocking, because it was played by so many hugely talented men. Of course, a lot of them have gone on to TV and film, so they're not just totally unemployed, but I'd also look at Raul as something of a total anomaly, because he's going to make himself a star without "having" to cross over into film and TV. There's something quoted on his website about how his career is proof that the theater is still (albeit rarely) creating stars.
Two members of a band called RIPE are acting as the co-writers, co-producers and composer for the movie. Here's their website - http://www.ripemusic.com/
I can't get my computer to play any of their videos, but I'm curious as to what they're like.
ETA: Skittles, your list of performer prestige was hilarious. I agree with your post, but don't think it's quite fair to single out Ariella (even though I kind of started that). A lot of us have reacted similarly.

I didn't mean to single out Ariella, but her quote seemed to sum up others' sentiments. I meant to address it towards everyone that was criticizing him for this. A month ago, we thought Adam would be sitting on his ass for the next 2 months doing nothing. I'm just surprised that so many people were annoyed considering he IS doing something productive.
I think it's kind of funny that only a couple of days ago we were petting the thread and hoping he'd give us something to talk about. No one can say he didn't come through.
*pets Adam* Good boy!
Isn't this beautiful? One thing about the constant hair color changes, you always know when a picture was taken.

Oooh, where is that from? I'm sad that he retired the flowery guitar.
It's a gorgeous guitar. Presumably he still has it and will use it again.
I'd imagine he does. Unless he went all rockstar and smashed it onstage.
OOO, pretty picture!

Oh, that's a nice picture.
I just went back the past 2 pages and just skipped around a bit (so I didn't exactly get every detail of everyone's posts). I hope that movie turns out better than it seems. It sounds funny if anything.
I just watched Rent this morning for the first time in a long long time. I literally just cried my eyes out, it felt good in a way. I cheered myself up by listening to bits and pieces of the commentary .
I might have to do that too, Alex. It's been such a long time since I've watched it.
I haven't watching Rent since like...April?
Neither have I. I was just thinking about it this morning. Actually, I was thinking, "If I never watch it, do I really like it as much as I said I did?" But then again, it's a *long* movie.
Perhaps I'll watch it on the 23rd. That's Thanksgiving right? Better than hanging with the family.
