I dragged myself out of bed to my lecture today, only to have everything the prof talked about be a completely unncessary review for me. He spent 55 minutes explaining Pavlov's learning theory in elementary terms. I'm a psych major. I could barely keep awake.
I should have just slept through it and woken up now.
Grrr... I hate crap like that. Or, when I drag myself out of bed and go to class only to be presented with a VIDEO. *stabs professors*
Alright, well... I must go now. Be back sooooooooon, darlings.
What I really hate is when the lecture is nearly identical to the assigned reading. I feel like I've wasted my time by doing the reading and attending the lecture.
Oh, I really hate that, Skittles. I hate how in nearly every psych class you have the Pavlov/Skinner review at the beginning. And if I have to listen to an introductory lecture on Darwin in a biology class ONE MORE TIME... natural selection, yes. I get it. It's the basis of all biology, but I don't need to hear about it in-depth in five different classes. (Then again, maybe they're making up for the fact that it's not taught in high schools here...)
I agree, BG. Or worse, lectures where the professor literally reads off of the posted powerpoint slides. There's no point in going at all.

I've had a couple of classes where the professors did that, and it's just awful. I have even less tolerance for it after taking a course about how to communicate effectively in a business setting - many of our assignments were Powerpoint presentations in front of the class, and the professor made it clear to us that using the Powerpoint as a teleprompter would not work because it bores the audience.
The worst is the professors that not only read straight from the powerpoint slides, but post the slides online. You're basically telling people not to come to class.
I think the best prof I had in terms of note taking was my history prof my freshman year. He had a very basic outline up on Powerpoint, so you had an idea of what topics would be discussed, but he would actually talk about all the details. So you had to pay attention to what he was saying in order to hear the important details.

I hate having to go to class when I already know the topic on the syllabus. I am torn, I want to skip my Pop Culture class because the teacher is doing a Canadian Studies section and I took an entire class called Canadian Studies last semester, so I'd know probably more than she is teaching, but then again I am trying not to skip too many classes this semester, 'cause I did that too much last semester.
I would seriously consider skipping my 2:00 Calculus class because it's boring and I feel like crap, but it's a subject I struggled with last semester so it's probably best that I at least go and try to stay awake.

I'm taking a developmental psych class, and in order to be allowed in, you HAVE to have taken intro psych. And, I mean, I think they can assume people took basic science courses in high school. Yet they still go on and on about what the scientific method is.
Not to mention that the point of the course is to generate something of an APA-style research paper. So I have to sit through three hours of lab learning how to search for literature on databases, and understanding how to write an abstract, or what writing your methods section means.
I guess I shouldn't complain all that much because it won't be as hard a job as it COULD be, but I'm so. bored. I spent two and a half years writing a paper like that.
More Mute lyrics:
TOO CLOSE TO THE FLAME
Yesterday a crowded room
Today there's no one here
I believe that this is killing me
No one sheds a tear
Now I know I've crossed the line
I know the reasons why
The pain inside of me justified
No need for peace.
I know I've caused the pain
I'm here to take the blame
I will not leave you to wonder
I was too close to the flame
Tomorrow passed before my eyes
It didn't seem to change
Love I felt no longer known
Everything's the same
For so long I've prophesized
Wish I could stab my eyes
With daggers made of gold
Somebody save my ****in' soul

First the sparkly pants...now a hypnotic nun...what's next?!
So crappy weather is preventing my little trip to get Anthony's book. BOO! Instead, I shall nap (cause there's nothing better to do on dark, rainy days than curl up with a warm blanket and sleep).

I'm really interested in what his new sound will be like. All of his songs and shows have been very guitar-based up until now, so switching to piano/bass/drums is pretty radical. I wonder what's behind that change, whether it's wanting to go in a new direction or more practical considerations.
Singing something like Maria is quite different too. Good choice though.

One last post before I head off to dreamland...
I really agree with that statement Chloe. Even the difference in Model Prisoner and Civilian was pretty interesting (and the instrumentation remained about the same).
Seriously though...Maria? Easy as Life? What I Did for Love? There's some serious potential there for downright amazing stuff to happen (for lack of a better word).
