Oh, Raúl...
Right, at a loss for anything productive to say right now.

Heh, Sarah, like my new signature? I just found this amazing quote by Anthony and had to put it up!
It's Raúl's gyrating hips! Weeeee!
Katt, I love your sig! Doesn't Anthony say the most brilliant things?
And thanks Em, I now have a new LJ icon.

Raúl's "Hair" moves are fúcking hot (heh, I'm practicing the accent mark and getting around the censor at the same time!)

He does! He just has all these awesome quotes! He's like the best speaker eva!
Yes, Katt, of course I love your signature. Anthony Rapp is a truly remarkable guy.

There is just no one else like him. Besides Adam of course.
Heh, BG. I love it.
It'd be so funny if Anthony posted tonight. We'd all be rushing to change our sigs so we could reply without looking like morons.

Haha, cute, BG!
I was typing a post for another board and just realized something: For as much as I do like Adam's voice on the Rent movie soundtrack and as much as I think it fits the character of Roger, I am so glad it wasn't that "matured" voice we hear on the Aida soundtrack. I was overplaying my Aida CD again and to be honest, I wouldn't want to imagine that rougher voice on songs like WITS or EPT.
I wonder how much control Adam has over that "roughness factor" in his voice. Hm.

I love Aida. I need to listen to it again, it's been a while (meaning like a few weeks, lol).
Aww, glad you guys like my little "fun with accent marks" moment (considering how often I like to throw in the naughty words, that may just become my new trademark )
Interesting point, siamese. I think he probably does have a good deal of control over it. The Rent movie soundtrack was recorded only about a year or so after Civilian, and his voice sounds quite different on the two recordings, plus he didn't sound as "rough" in the live TV performances promoting the movie.

I've thought about that a lot, since my mom asks all the time in her quest to find out what I like about "that sound." I think, obviously, the quality is natural in his voice. If you listen closely, you can hear it when he speaks -- it's always there. Since I saw him play Radames so many times in such rapid succession, I tried to figure out what the deal might be -- if it came in certain parts of his range, or something like that. I'd venture to guess that that's a factor, because it sounds to me like at least *some* of it is out of his control,, and just the tambre of his voice. I found that, in the AIDA score, it would happen at the exact. same. times. The man sounded like the CD, even in person -- I was amazed at that. The sound takes on a different character when he's tired, and strained, though -- it's kind of obvious when he's been singing too much. So, yeah. I think he has a reasonable amount of control over it -- like when he can be extra growly, but I think that a lot of it is just the natural thing his voice does.

I just can't imagine singing to promote a certain quality in my voice and still sounding natural while doing it, but I guess that's why he's the professional while I'm not. Or... maybe my parents' theory of how he smoked a few packs before recording those songs holds true.
(Kidding, people!)
Edit: Em, thanks for your insight. That sounds about right.

I love the growly aspect of his voice, too. I think it's sexy as hell.

Singers sound differently in shows than in music they have written. They feel it differently, the emotion backing it comes from a different place, so I think there is a great degree of acting that goes into a voice like Adam's.
Well, I think he just has the ability to regulate the use of something that occurs naturally.
But like, look at someone like Raul. I think he has *much* more control over that type of sound in his voice. When he growls, it almost always appears intentional, just based on how or what he's singing.
But Adam's voice can also be astonishingly clear, especially in the higher end of his range. It's really impressive... he has a lot of range, both note-wise and stylistically.

BG, I agree, although I don't know if I like it as prominent as it was on the movie soundtrack. Again, I thought it fit the part well, but I would prefer not to have, say, a solo CD of him singing exactly like that. Updated On: 1/30/06 at 12:36 AM
