I need to vent badly. If you don't want to hear it, skip this post.
The mother said she'd take me to Company for my birthday, and as i've said it's no tall order- Cincinnati isn't terribly far away. But now we 'don't have time' because I have to study for the F*CKing ACT and SAT and she 'needs her weekends too'. I just about screamed when she said that she did so much for me already (her example was letting me see Brokeback Mountain. As if letting me go to a movie that I paid for is a F*CKing sacrifice!!!)
She's so F*CKing selfish. That was ALL I wanted for my birthday and she was going to give it to me, but not anymore. F*CKING BITCH.
I despise every aspect of my life. It's just one piece of **** after another.

I'm up. I feel a bit better. I've never seen Rent onstage, never had an umbrella flip on me either. We've had three different forms of weather here today. It rained on my roommate in the morning, then when I left it was freezing rain, and when I came home it was snowing.
I'm sorry. That really sucks. Maybe you can convince her, or ask if you can go with a friend or something?
I'm sorry, my moms like that too.. she never lets me go to anything that i really want to go to, and hten says "what are you talking about, i let you go everywhere..just yesterday i let you go to your friends house"
ok in Halloween Mark sings "How did we get here? How the hell? Pan left
ok who the in the world is pan and why did they leave?
<--- that had me laughing at loud, literally. OMG, thats priceless

I don't HAVE friends, that would be another problematic aspect of my life.
I DID convince her and she SAID she would go, but now she's made up some flimsy reason about me not having time. It's ONE goddamned afternoon.
With every fiber of my soul, I hate that the New Yorkers of this board are going to see this and I won't. I F*CKing deserve it. It's in my backyard and I'm not spoiled like certain other people around here.
you have lots of friends on these boards-- but i can totally understand where your coming from. I live in NY and can never go to anything in the city. It's so unfair, cause i'm so close.
I really wanted to see Chitty before it closed because I love Raul and have never seen him perform, and she didnt *want* to go, so I couldnt.

im sorry Nia
same here xM3L24x, i live in Long Island too [u live there don't u?]
*hugs nia*
I don't know if this will help you re-convince your mother, but you mentioned that she's using SAT/ACT studying as an excuse not to take you. Maybe if you did really well on a practice test, you could use that as leverage to show that going to Cincinnati for a day to see a show isn't going to impede your progress.

Thanks, M3L. I really wish I could trade my real life for you guys, but it's impossible. And though you are friends, you can't exactly go to a play with me.
Well, misery loves company. What was the last show you saw, cheyenne and M3L?
the grass is always greener on the other side..im sure your life isnt that bad, your just upset -- last show I saw was RENT back in October. I'm seeing it again next week for my birthday. I wanted to see chitty in december *is bitter*, how 'bout u?

My show record
Sweeney on my 2 day NYC trip- November
POTO tour- August
Chicago tour- Last spring
Rent tour- Last Feburary
Producers tour- Last winter
Billboard, I did really well on everthing but the math (I didn't know whether or not to skip the fill-in-the-blanks if i wasn't sure and so I wrote '5' for half of them.). Naturally, that means nothing to her.
Rent is a good birthday present. *hugs for M3L and Billboard*
ETA- my life is pretty bad right now. My parents and I fight a lot over college related stuff, I have no friends and the one that I was sort-of starting to get alone with again is moving out of state on Saturday. My grades have slipped and I'm way behind in my art class, which I was counting on getting an A+ in to pull my GPA up. My bunny is recovering from her illness, which is good.=.

Sorry, insomniak. That really sucks. Could you just ask for money for your birthday and buy the ticket yourself? Student rush tickets are only $18, if that helps. And is it possible to use public transportation to get there?
*hugs back* :)
i saw chicago last spring too.. actually it was sorta still winter..march something, haha whatever.
I'm sorry that you don't get to see it, nia... is there any hope of convincing her to change her mind? I really hope that it ends up working out!
I do love this board, but I can completely see where you're ccoming from as someone who doesn't ge the chance to see very many shows. I'm always amazed at how flippant NYers can be about seeing shows so frequently and multiple times. I understand why they do it, I probably would too if given the opportunity, but I think it's easy to forget that like 90% of Americans don't have the chance to visit the theatre very often. I just wish that they would appreciate it for the experience that it is.

AMEN, siren!
orange, I once suggested taking the bus to a local university's production of the Rocky Horror Show and she looked horrified. Public Transit is not my mom's thing.
I'm sort of tempted to do it anyway as a big "F*CK YOU". I've about had it with her flip-flopping.
M3, did you see Brenda Braxton play Velma? She was amazing.
nia, the fill-in-the-blanks are the only section where you don't lose a quarter of a point for a wrong answer, so guessing is OK (whereas for all the other sections, don't guess unless you can eliminate at least one of the answer choices). Glad to hear that your bunny is feeling better, and while it may not seem like it right now, the college battles with your parents will eventually cool down.
i'm not sure.. i lost my playbill :-/
I've only seen six plays in my entire life. We don't have any student discounts here. Me and my roommate have sort of made it a thing since last year to see one play a year.
i only saw my first show last year :)
