I keep planning on listening to it, but haven't done it yet. ::income taxes::
You all are very sweet. Kim, I do remember that, I think it was an interview in something like the Washington Square Courier (I may have made up that name.)
And speaking of googling, I just checked out the Juilliard program:
The Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program, under the direction of Christopher Durang and Marsha Norman, is a one-year program with the opportunity to return for a second year of training as a playwright-in-residence.
I believe Cybele was there 2002 - 2004, but she's still connected in some way, since she just had a play done there.

Chloe, thanks for double checking me-- glad I didn't make that up!
That sounds right about the playwrite in residence-- I think the artist in residence programs are usually a year or two.
RE: Daphne's podcast, it's interesting. The interviewer makes mention of how she asked Anthony whether there were any hook ups during the original run of Rent, and Anthony of course demurred. So the interviewer (the same chatty one) asked Daphne whether there were any love matches.
Daphne replied something like, "Oh, yes, of course, that always happens. We were madly in love." But she never says *who* she was apparently in love with.
We assume it was Adam (well, I did, anyway), but no actual confirmation there...
Sorry about the taxes, Chloe. Are they in the mail?
Edit: I agree, Picturetaker-- I thought the podcast was very interesting. Daphne certainly puts it all right out there!
My tax returns are now in cyberspace, thanks! I use a tax program and file electronically, so I don't even have to worry about making it to the post office. It's a big load off my mind to have them done.
Very interesting about Daphne. I would assume it was Adam too - who else? I've always had a theory that "The One That Got Away" was written about Daphne. What do you all think?

Chloe, I wondered the same thing... actually, I've wondered how much of Model Prisoner (the CD) may have been written about Daphne & how much about Cybele. Facinating fodder for speculation!
Edit: Yay! Tax season is now officially closed for Chloe!!

I haven't heard the podcast yet so I can't judge, but are you sure she didn't say it with a hint of facetiousness to her voice? That reply sounds like something I'd say if I wanted to opt out of answering a question like that -- instead of saying, "Well, I can't really talk about that," I'd probably opt to say something along the lines of, "Oh my God, YES, I was COMPLETELY enamored!"
Regarding Daphne's last show: I believe Daphne was already with her now-husband at the time, but I'm sure she and Adam retained a close bond (even if it wasn't romantic at any time).
Daphne also seems like the kind of person who could "lift me up like a summer breeze, slam me down so gracefully, you make it look so easy."
We appreciate all your links, but you have bad luck with timing. I think we were looking at those last show accounts a month or two ago. But maybe someone here didn't see them at the time.

Picturetaker, I think I had seen some of those before, but they're always interesting. Thanks for sharing!
I'm off to bed, theatre fans-- have a lovely evening & may all your tax returns yield refund checks!

Heh, Chloe, we always seem to post at the exact same time!
ETA: Angela, I watched that video on YouTube that you referenced and the girl doesn't even pronounce his name correctly...

I know - my timing's not so good either. I'm really curious to hear that podcast now.
ETA: Goodnight, Kim, and thanks...

I'm sure you all have heard this, but Daphne has a song called "Superstar" that some say she wrote for Adam. I don't know if she's ever confirmed that, though.

Okay, I was going to bed...
Lexi, good thought re: Daphne possibly being facetious. It sounded to me like she was serious, but who knows? You miss so much when working just on voice inflection. There very well could have been some serious eyerolling going on!
Interestingly, she phoned in the podcast rather than being in the studio with the interviewer. Can't blame her. I don't think I'd want to be in the same room with that interviewer either!
Edit: Chloe, thanks for the good wishes... I'm going to bed... soon... really I am...
Hey Emcee - I remember our Superstar conversation. I've got that CD, by the way. I really like it.

Thanks, Kim. I should have probably listened to the interview myself before making any sort of judgment! Goodnight. :)
I'll look up the lyrics to "Superstar" so I can join in the discussion!
Post them. I'm too tired to do it myself.

Wow, they're rather long. Here you go, Em:
Superstar
Superstar
Superstar
Superstar
Superstar
I laid my eyes on you
Didn't know when you would see me through
Tomorrow
Sometimes you fade away
So many clouds have passed and I still see you there
Shining
A diamond thorn in my eye
You gleam so hard it makes me cry
And yet you're so far away
Hey there superstar where ever you are you
Shine your light on me
Set my heart free
Hey there superstar
You rise up above me
And shine so bright on me
Open my heart
I thought you'd slipped away
Burning a hole through the sky where you said you would find
Your love
I loose my hope in you
That all those wishes upon you I made
Never fade
Who do you think you are
Leaving traces of stardust
When you're so far away
Hey there superstar where ever you are you
Shine your light on me
Set my heart free
Hey there superstar
You rise up above me and shine so bright on me
Open my heart
Keep open my heart
Wide open my heart
Superstar
Super superstar
Who do you think you are
Leaving traces of stardust
When you're so far
Hey there superstar where ever you are you
Shine your light on me
Set my heart free
Hey there superstar
You rise up above me
And shine so bright on me
Open my heart
Hey there superstar where ever you are you
Shine your light on me
Set my heart fee
Hey there superstar
Shine your light on me
Hey there superstar
Set my heart free
Hey there superstar
Who do you think you are
To shine your light on me
Open my heart
Keep open my heart
Keep open my heart
IF the song is about him, I feel like that means there's a lot we don't know.
I had those too, but you beat me to it. I really have to get my older files organized.
Notice that in "The One That Got Away," Adam writes "I can be far away, you won't be left behind."

Daphne's podcast is almost done. I don't think she said that statement with any sarcasm in her voice, but I don't know if she was talking about specifically her and another performer. The interviewer's question was general and seemed to reference the entire cast, so I'm not sure if Daphne was talking about herself and someone else, an entirely different couple (or various sets of couples), or both. Maybe Adam will clue us in during his interview. Even though all of this occurred ten years ago, I still find it interesting -- not just only Daphne/Adam, but how everything unfolded with the rest of the cast as well.
ETA: What do you mean, Em?

All of the stuff about him being so far away or unreachable.... it seems weird to me. It doesn't sound like it's just that they weren't working together, but that there was actual distance. I don't know.
She could have meant London, but I should check on when her album was recorded. It was pretty soon after she left the show.

The lyrics also could be referencing emotional unavailability/distance.
Also, I suppose I'm just stating the obvious, but it's probably just as likely not about Adam as it is about him. It's easy to associate it with him because that's really Daphne's only past romantic relationship that the public is semi-aware of, but as a performer, it's very likely that Daphne has dated others with "superstar" qualities as well. It's like the Adam/Heather rumor in a way -- it's all almost too obvious and easy of a theory.

I listened to Daphne's Podcast interview yesterday. I love her and thought her interview was interesting. It would be cool to know all the hook ups with the cast, but in the interview (Lexi I agree) it's pretty general and not necessarily directed towards Adam/Daphne. That interviewer is too *peppy* or something.
I know what you mean, Lexi, but "who do you think you are" feels very pointed.

I agree, but what does that necessarily have to do with the song being about Adam?
I'm sorry, I'm probably just confused!
Yeah, the "Who do you think you are" part jumped out at me, too... but I think I'd almost have to hear it sung to know whether or not to read into that part.
I really have no clue whether or not it's about him, but it makes for really interesting discussion.
