Why do mom's do that? It sounds like they're really big fans too, but dont want to admit it and put it all on their daughters.
Heh. Reminds me of when Fantab and I saw RENT a couple of weeks ago and tried to get a picture with Will Chase at the stagedoor, but couldn't get anywhere near him because he was swarmed by little fangirls and their extremely pushy mothers.
They were sooo pushy and loud and they thought they could get away with it because they were mothers.
And pushy mothers make their little kids turn out that way - it's a never ending cycle!

My mom did that when I waited to get Mike Mussina's autograph.
Aww, tell me about Moose! To be honest, I've heard mixed stories about him, although he's always seemed more shy than rude. I used to have a MEGA crush on him.
Em, thanks for the story! That was hilarious.
Edit: OH WAIT, you already posted it. Hah.

SD - he was really nice that day. He laughed at me for having 25 cards to autograph, but he did all of them because nobody else was there! He joked that I should put them someplace safe to pay for college someday. I have heard stories about people who think he's kind of rude, but I put him in the same category as Adam. He's not afraid to say what he thinks, but sometimes he doesn't say much and that may be construed as rude. He's still my favorite baseball player - I even became a Yankee fan when he got signed (which in Orioles land is one of the 7 deadly sins!) My cat is even named Moose after him. :)

Yeah, JL, I always thought he had this understated, sharp wit. That's cool that you converted from Oriole fandom, though. :) He still looks good in his "old age," heh. Too bad the Yanks haven't had the level of success they had in the past after he signed.
Yaaaay baseball.
ANYway, I keep paging through Without You and reading the "interesting parts" rather than actually reading it! I really am horrible with memoirs.
It goes fast, just sit down and read it. :)
awe that's cute JL!
I remember when i saw All Shook Up this guy was next to me (very rude and pushy) and he kept sliding over and pushing me out of the way (sure i'm tiny but not that you can't see me!) ..then one of the cast members came out and he looked at them and in a very loud voice said, FEY EMERSON! I felt bad for the chorus girl (she was soo sweet) and she just said "excuse me? fey emerson?" and this man kept insisting she was FEY EMERSON. He wouldn't say anything else. I was looking at him like, 'what are you crazy buddy? leave her alone.' Then he finally was like "look 'er up..F-E-Y- EMERSON! E-M-E-R-S-O-N!" (spelling it!) I felt so sorry for that poor girl, she was trying so hard to be nice.
SD - read the book!!! It goes so fast and it was so neat to be in that moment. We hear about some of those moments all the time, and we've all read so much, but to be there inside Anthony's head makes some of those moments so much more intense.
It almost amused me how the show was portrayed. Overall, it has importance but on a daily basis it just plays the role of a job. So interesting because I guess no matter how many times we see it, it won't be just part of our daily schedule.
Concentrate SD! and READ! It is so good, you will thank us

Heh, you girls are too funny. I also have about 90 problems in math that are due tomorrow. I always put my math off until the last minute because it's probably the thing I loathe most in life, so...

Heh. I had horrible tickets when I saw Rent and could easily see into the light/sound, um... box? I'm unsure of its exact name, but I could see that the person working the lights had the Yankee game on mute in the background. Granted, this was a techie and not a performer, but it's kind of funny regardless!
Actually, I kind of did the same thing as Lexi. I started out by jumping around and am now going back to start from the beginning. I don't normally read like that, so I guess there were just certain things I wanted to see first.
Ha! That's great. Yeah, I guess for them it's just muscle memory at this point - not much concentration required.
Read a book, forget the math. Literacy is an important skill in life! Think of the knowledge! How can a teacher argue with "I was reading a book?" Now come on.
Yikes, 90 math problems? I am never complaining about my Calculus homework again (until next week )

Heh, that's why I don't feel guilty about reading a book or magazine during boring lecture classes
I always put off my math work...it's not that it's difficult..just tedious. I'll do it tomorrow morning. I'm only going to be in that class for 15 mintutes anyway. (Seeing The Color Purple with my A.P. English class. .)

I know it's almost cliche for a high school student to say this, but I feel math is so utterly pointless, especially considering anyone who has a chance to make it in the math field, so to speak, would already be taking AP Calc. Math is definitely my weakest area, so I'm in pre-calc and I can assure you that no one in that class has the natural aptitude (including myself!) to ever really take extremely high-level math classes.
Chloe, I always do that with non-fiction books. It's an unfortunate habit of mine. I "read" a 1,000+ page biography of Marlon Brando by reading everything that popped out at me and then going back to the beginning, still only truly reading the more interesting parts and scanning the others.
I've got a paragraph and a half, woohoo.
A bunch of friends and I took Calc AB in high school, but everyone who took any kind of major in college that required math had to take it over again. I guess that took a little of the stress off when they took it in college, but it seemed to make it a waste of time. I personally found pre-calc much harder than calc. But seeing first hand how much math teaching has changed in the last 5-10 years and seeing how horribly crappy some of the curriculum is, I'm surprised anyone comes out of high school even knowing how to add! Ever feel like your math teachers are really smart, they just are clueless in the teaching field?
This DBQ is extremely hard. *whines*

Yes. I don't know if this is a running theme in the math field or just personal misfortune, but in addition to an inability to do math in the first place, I've had absolutely horrible teachers throughout junior high and high school. I actually think having good math teachers for eighth and ninth grade is more important than having good math teachers for the rest of high school. Eighth and ninth grade is really where the foundation is built for high school math courses, IMO.
What's your DBQ on?
SD - you're right. I think there should be a seperate certification for middle/high math teachers. As it stands now, most states will let you teach math if you major in math and take a couple teaching license tests. To teach elementary school, you have to major in education. Doesn't make much sense to me.
DBQ - the most hated 3 letters of my high school career. You have my sympathy.
It hasn't been entirely useless for me. I've had to deal with the fact that film footages are expressed in feet and frames, with 16 frames to a foot. A footage is now expressed as a decimal - 124.14 means a hundred twenty-four feet and fourteen frames - but obviously this presents a problem in adding and subtracting, since the decimal isn't really a decimal. To make my job easier, I've written scripts to automate doing math with these numbers, so I'm glad I had some math to fall back on.
how religion affects women's roles in ancient civilizations. But, you have to relate it to 8 documents we've read. blaahh..why did i choose global honors?
Chloe - hooray! You got to use knowledge! I love when that happens. :)
Cheyenne - Ew. Ew. Double Ew.
