Yeah, he himself doesn't get much press.
You're right, but ever since the publicity for the movie started, what with one thing and another there have always been a fair number of stories linked to him on news google. Right now there's nothing much. Hope things heat up soon.

Ever wanted to go to sleep, and just couldn't get there?
Yeah...
I SHOULD just go to sleep and let today be over while I'm still like a millimeter ahead.

I just got done with work.

You should drink some coffee. It'll wake ya up.
Sorry you had a bad day - I was thinking I should go to bed too, but I did want to pass along an interesting link. It's a sort of summing up of the early Rent line experience by one of the original Rentheads. Her (I think it's a her) viewpoint is somewhat negative, as if she's coming off a year-long bender, but there's also a lot of interesting stuff, including a mention of Patrice, who posted here once about the movie, cast members' last shows and how the lotto destroyed the spirit of the line. It gives a fair idea of the insanity of those days. Here's a little sample:
daphne's last... after a really long line (and getting line tix from catherine and sasha who were strangers then but destined to become friends) watching adam physically incapable of picking up the guitar to start 'your eyes' because his whole body was trembling... idina choking on tears as she uttered her final lines... the most incredible show i'd ever seen. no one knew what to do... it was the begining of the end and everyone could feel it crumbling...
ETA: Hi Lexi - I was typing so long I missed you crashing into the thread.

Nooo, stay up, Chloe! I'm totally buzzed on caffeine. My body is physically tired from standing on my feet for over eight hours, but I'm all jittery and my mind is going twenty places at once.
That description certainly seems intense, to say the least. I wish someone would have recorded all of Daphne's final show. I remember someone saying that Adam walked on stage at the beginning of the show holding Daphne's hand and barely able to walk.
Hello Lexi. I think I remember reading that Chloe. Unfortunately I can't stay up, I have to work tomorrow. I'm only up late because I just discovered Altar Boyz and I wanted to finish it.
Good night Sarah, sleep well.
I don't remember that, Lexi, but the description of the last show that I think we've all seen says that Daphne walked up to the stage door on Adam's arm, looking down.
I'm sorry you had such a long day, it sounds exhausting.

I think I would cry if I had work tomorrow. Anyway, HOW nice is finishing work to find that Adam is in your car CD player? It's always a nice treat.
Do you like Altar Boyz? I don't know the first thing about it. Maybe I should spend less time on collecting every version of Chess possible and more time discovering shows that people actually like.
ETA: Chloe, it was a comment on the LJ post that asked about Daphne and Adam's relationship.

That girl, the one w/ the website w/ the link that Chloe posted, sounded so angry. Like Rent seemed like one of the worst things that happened to her, after she realized what she had done w/ her life.
I bookmarked a site that described Adam & Fredi's last how, Idina's last, and Daphne's last. & other notable shows.
BTW, Good night (or should I say morning) everybody
interesting descriptions & stuff. check it out :-)

I thought everyone would get a laugh at this story I found on an old message board:
Then I asked him to
sing my Aida book and he did. I said, "Can u sing this playbill for my
friend Kerry in Texas. Maybe sumthing like 'Hey kerry. Ur awesome... love
adam?" and he said, "How about Hey Kerry, love adam?" and Im like "Or
that..." lol!!! Then I asked him for a pic and I told him that I have a pic
from everytime Ive met him and he said, "I hope I keep getting better
looking!" and I said, "Dont worry! Ur... " and i never finished! lol...
then i said, "Do u know that back in August, when I first met u, I called u
hot?" and he said, "No, but thanx anyway!"
Poor Adam, is actually what went through my mind, but that was funny too.
Thanks Angela, that was the description I was thinking of. I didn't think of her as being angry so much as reflecting on both the good and bad things in the experience, and ultimately finding more good, even though she'd had a sort of backlash against it for a while.
Speaking of other shows, I listened to Last 5 Years and also have mixed emotions. I was impressed with the music and especially the lyric writing, but I didn't like the characters much. I can see why this wouldn't be a role for Adam, as Jamie is almost the anti-Adam.

I just thought the "I hope I keep getting better looking!" was funny, but you're right in that the fans sound annoying as hell. Well, what else is new?
I'm glad to hear that you gave L5Y a listen. I hope I didn't convince you to buy something that you don't enjoy too much. However, I don't think you're supposed to like the characters. I think you're supposed to sympathize with their plight to some extent, simply because of the pathetic nature of the situation, but at the end of the show, you're not supposed to want to marry a Jamie or a Cathy.
I think it would be interesting to see Adam in the role of Jamie BECAUSE Jamie is so completely different from him, but I'm not sure his voice is right for the role.
Hee! That vaguely reminds me of his comment on my picture-taking habits... but I hope I didn't sound THAT annoying. He seemed genuinely amused, though. I hope.
Hmm... to L5Y. I'm not sure what I think on that one.
Yes, the "I hope I keep getting better looking" was cute.
Emcee, I don't see how you could have possibly been annoying, since you hardly ever said anything to him.
Totally coincidentally, I came across a post about L5Y on ATC yesterday in which a law suit over the show by the composer's ex-wife was mentioned. Apparently part of their settlement was that he wasn't going to write anything based on their marriage, and she felt this show came too close.
Hehe. True, I hope! The "just in case" picture thing was like, the one time we've really ever exchanged that kind of... fun banter sort of thing. I enjoyed it.

Yep. There was actually a song that made references to his ex-wife's nationality (Irish) that was removed from the show, although Jason Robert Brown (the composer) played it live at least once. I'm not sure if removing the references to his ex-wife's nationality was specifically ordered by a judge, but at any rate, "Shiksa Goddess" replaced the song in question.
Oy, that post! "Do u know that back in August, when I first met u, I called u
hot?" and he said, "No, but thanx anyway!" Heh.
I feel the same way that you do about Last Five Years, Chloe. I admire the music as being well-written, but it definitely doesn't speak to me on a personal level. I think that's in part because I feel that it's such a one-sided story with the vast majority of the blame for the breakup of the relationship on Jamie. That results in Jamie being well-developed but almost completely unsympathetic, and Cathy being sort of flat as a character and coming across only as the victim. It is about the breakup of a marriage, yes, so neither character is going to come out looking great, but I feel that it would've worked better if it had been more balanced. I also think that Jamie's songs are stronger than Cathy's overall.
I can almost see Adam as Jamie, actually.... I agree that he's much warmer and more likable than the character, but it would be so interesting to see him try it.
Was that the time he decided he looked high in the first picture and wanted to take another? Refresh my memory.
Another interesting thing about L5Y is that, as one might expect, the guy's songs are better than the woman's. At least that's how I felt. As I said, Jamie seems to be the complete opposite of Adam - detached, self-absorbed, ironic.

Oh look, it's Ashley! ::loves her:: (I will respond to your PM!! I've been so distracted...)
Anyway, I've discussed this with Ashley privately, but I thought it's an interesting point -- JRB had to either make his character look like the big bad guy so it didn't seem he wrote a musical about how horrible his ex-wife was, making himself look somewhat bad in the process, or he had to make the characters more "even," also making himself look somewhat bad in the process for shoving blame on his ex-wife. I think I'd like the musical a bit more if Jamie didn't just come off as an absolute jerk for the entire show and both parties shared more of the blame, although I suppose it's possible that JRB did indeed bear 90% of the blame with regards to the breakup of his marriage.
(And yes, Ash, I copied that from a PM to you. )
Oooh, I want to see Adam sing "Shiksa Goddess" -- I think he'd do a marvelous job with that song! I'd love to see his interpretation of Jamie's last two solo songs, too, even though they'd be quite a stretch for him.

I can't sleep. But I would also like to see Adam in L5Y. Some of you may not agree, but its my fantasy cast of Adam and Julia in it.
Sorry I missed your post at first, Ashley, but as you see, great minds were thinking alike.
I feel sure that Adam could sing all those songs, and it would certainly be interesting to hear him. I'm just not sure he could be that character, though who knows, maybe someone who goes against the grain is what would balance things out better.
