The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part ten

Did they really lower the score considerably for Madonna? I'm not questioning the validity of that statement as much as I'm surprised. I read a biography of Madonna a few years ago which mentioned that she was extremely, for the lack of a better word, hardcore about the part and took vocal lessons in order to hit some of the higher notes. I guess she needed the notes lowered anyway... ? I haven't actually given any other recording a really close listen because I'm so used to the movie soundtrack, although the tour audio is next on my list.

I actually find your throughts on the Phantom movie really interesting, Ash, even though I haven't really watched it yet. I didn't read any in-depth reviews of the movie when it initially was released, so beyond knowing that it didn't receive stellar reviews, I'm not familiar with exactly what the fans liked and disliked. I think I'm actually going to go watch the movie right now, so I'll talk to everyone later!

Yeah, they definitely did at certain parts. Listen to "Buenos Aires" and "Rainbow High" in the tour version. In her defense, though, Eva is a really tough part vocally. Updated On: 7/14/06 at 12:38 AM

agreed.

I love ALW as well. Phantom of the Opera was the musical that really drew me into Broadway (mostly because of performer Howard McGillin, but that's another story). I also loved The Woman in White. While he has his little faults musically, I still think he's a brilliant composer.

Emcee, I thought it was Fantab who came up with the rhymes-with-towel phrase! Oh well, it's really no matter. Anyway, ponine, I think it originally came up when everyone was trying to tell me that PotO-Raoul rhymes with towel while the other Raul doesn't. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part ten

No worries, bdwaygirl. Thanks for telling me. I've never heard of that show before.

Ash, I'm going to listen to the tour version of Evita right now. I actually fell asleep during PotO last night within the first few minutes, so I'll have to give you my opinion on the film later.

^oh no! Well, at least you got some sleep!

Aww it sort of upsets me that Raul doesn't rhyme with towel.

Rent secrets are up...if anybody cares. They still stink.

If anybody still looks at them, remember the one w/ the naked guy in front of the van? It was something like Guess the cast member? It apparently is Adam. It's #10. I'm weird-ed out x10.

I hate stupid people. From an Amazon.com customer review for the Annie Original Broadway Cast Recording (i.e. the soundtrack to my childhood):

This cd sucks! Nobody can sing! Andrea McCardle is a horrible annie. Reid Shelton is the worst Daddy Warbucks Ever. Bert Healy sucks too. I Hate This Cd. Please Don't buy this, I'ts Horrible! It's A Humiliation To The Musical Annie!

Now that it's been mentioned on the thread, I should probably explain. That picture was posted weeks ago on DataLounge by someone who apparently came across the photo and thought it looked like a high school aged Adam. It's very much up in the air as to whether it's actually him. The hair looks remarkably similar to the movie hair, but I'm not entirely sold on the face and especially the guy in the photo's slight build. Add it to the list of mysteries, I guess.

Skittles, the Annie OBC has been a guilty pleasure of mine since I was, oh, six. I actually tried watching the movie a few days ago and it's just as awful as I remember it, though. Updated On: 7/14/06 at 09:36 PM

I was just posting on the main board about how I hated the Annie movie. But I LOOOOVED it onstage and the OBCR (which I owned on record, then tape, then CD as the technology progressed). I considered seeing it this summer when the tour came nearby, just for old times' sake, but I forgot about it.

The Amazon.com person went on to claim that the original movie Annie was better and "everyone on this cd sucks!" re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part ten

To bring this back around to the topic, according to Adam's 2nd Chatterbox, his parents brought him to see Annie as a child. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part ten

I love the Annie OBCR, even though I obviously never saw it live back in the day. AndreaMcArdle had such a strong voice when she was young. I bet she still does
I like the movie. Was it really that bad? It was my first assocation w/ Annie, Tomorrow, Daddy Warbucks, & all of that stuff.
I didn't like the 2nd Annie movie, the one with Kristin Chenoweth. I mean there was alread an Annie movie, why make another one. I hate it when Hollywood, Disney, & etc. do that. Remake films. Most of the time it's really not that good. Might I add that the girl who played Miranda in Lizzie McGuire, was in it, as one of the orphans =P

I prefer the Disney Annie remake because it was more true to the original show. I hated all that the original movie cut so many songs and replaced them with such crappy songs. Tomorrow was iconic. "Dumb Dog"...not so much. *stabs*

Cutting in to say...while I don't particularly LIKE "Annie"- I much prefer the Disney remake to the original. Honestly, who in their right mind would cut out "Tomorrow"? It really is iconic.

Sorry for being the stupid one, but what does iconic mean?

I never got into Annie, but I've undoubtedly heard Tomorrow dozens of times. What possible rationale could there be for cutting it out?

Adam did say his parents took him to it, possible more than once, but he obviously doesn't remember too much about it.

<-- re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part ten Annie! I love the Disney version a lot. The original movie...was weird. I just remember that part with the guy climbing up the ladder on the helicopter and being like "wtf?".

I don't think I've ever heard the OBC Annie. Hmm.

The OBCR of Annie is far from horrible. People don't have taste. While it's not my favorite, it still is a great recording.

I don't actually like Annie as much as I associate it with fun times as a child and nostalgia in general. The only thing I liked about the original movie was Burnett's "Little Girls," which I thought was wonderfully acted. I also should probably mention that I adore "NYC," which was sadly cut from the movie.

Angela, "stupid" is when you don't know something, but also don't ask about it. The earliest meaning of "icon" is a religious picture of special significance. The Orthodox Christian church believed that these pictures actually in some way became the saints that were depicted. Iconic is usually used to mean anything that is particularly representative of something.

Mandi, it wasn't even a ladder, it was railroad bridge that had been raised upright. I hated that part.

NYC was my favorite song. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part ten

OMG... Annie.. Between "Annie" and "Mary Poppins" I probably drove my mom wild... Hahaha. I watched them EVERYDAY religiously and sang along every little thing.

I still have my old school VHS copy of "Mary Poppins" and while I'm getting the SE DVD, I'll never throw that one away. It's part of me.

Forgot to say that AP adding a second date in LA really rocks. I wonder if there's a buzz among the people going, that always helps bring people in.

I've read he puts on a good show so here's to more of those. Updated On: 7/14/06 at 11:28 PM

Hi She. The second date was a really nice surprise. I didn't have any idea how well the first show would sell, esepcially since Adam obviously doesn't have the kind of core group of fans there that he has in NYC. He must be feeling great about it.
