*sends Adam love*
I'm glad you had a good time Sarah!
It seems that a lot of people are doing finals and such, but there's not a lot to post about in any case. I have found one link recently. It's Cybele talking with an educational radio station about her book. Quite a long serious conversation about allergies (and nothing about Adam), but for those who are interested...
Oh, she's on the phone from home, and a couple of times you hear the kids in the background. Towards the end she excuses herself and explains very patiently to Lennon that she's on the phone and will help him in a moment.

I'll check that out, I'm interested in her cookbook, I'd love to buy it when I have the money.
It's a good cookbook on its own, even if you don't have allergies. She emphasizes organic ingredients and has quite a few vegetarian recipes, both of which interest me. All the baking recipes are vegan. It's quite family oriented too. She talks about how she learned from wonderful cooks in her own family, mentions recipes that came from one family member or another, and which ones are particular favorites of Adam or the kids.
No Adam news out of CA yet, huh? :::sigh:::

It seems like much longer, but it's only been two weeks. They're probably still unpacking. It would be nice to know something was coming up other than a concert tour in the fall though.
Reminiscing...

Out of curiosity, why all the emphasis on organic ingredients in the cookbook (I don't have it, so I'm just judging on posts)? Is it because organic ingredients help, so to speak, with allergies, or rather a separate advocacy for organic foods?
I find talk about organic food very interesting, although I don't think I'd ever be able to have a strictly organic diet. *chews her Twix bar*
I think there's some theory that pesticides and genetically modified food may be a cause for the increase in food allergies. I did a project on genetically modified food back in high school and that came up a few times as a possible problem.
Just a quick hello to everyone. I'm off to see Rent for the first time on stage with my roommate. We're going out to dinner first, so I'm heading out now. I'll talk to you all tomorrow.
Just drop that Twix bar RIGHT NOW! Okay, I might have the occasional candy bar myself, but there's a Stop N Shop not too far away that has a huge amount of organic stuff, and that's probably 95% of what I buy.
As for Cybele, she mentions growing up with an organic garden in her backyard, so I think it's something that's always been part of her life. Here's an excerpt from her introduction, entitled "Whole Foods:"
Whole foods are hormone-free, additive-free, pesticide-free unprocessed foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Why eat this way? Because processing food removes its nutrients, and it is especially important for people with food allergies who are on restricted diets to get the most nutritive value from every bite they eat. Whole foods are better for you and better for the planet... But why eat "organic"?... Organic foods are the most natural foods you can possibly find.
She especially pushes organic meat, both as a way to avoid exposure to "mad cow" disease and because the livestock is more humanely treated.
Have a great time! I hope Bryce is back in!

I have an affinity for pre-packaged food... well, I think most of the world does. I think most kids and teenagers especially think that it tastes extra good. I try to eat it in moderation, though.
Thanks. I've always felt that organic foods made sense, but I've never heard a real rationale as to why organic foods are superior to "regular" food, besides the taste.
I'm listening to the interview in the background. She sounds incredibly well-spoken and informed. Good for her.
The organic movement is something I'm quite interested in myself. (Anyone who's not, feel free to scroll past this post.) On a basic level, it comes down to the soil. Soil in its natural state is a living thing, full of microorganisms, insects and worms that work harmoniously together to create an environment in which plants can grow and absorb varied, balanced nutrients. Applying pesticides and artificial fertilizers kills a lot of those living components in the soil, which not only means that the plants no longer have as rich a source to draw upon, but that another patch of the earth has become as dead as if it were under a slab of concrete.
Lawns especially get to me. They are an import from England, which has the damp, mild climate to sustain them fairly easily. Except for a few areas, here it's quite a different story, and huge amounts of soil-destroying stuff goes into keeping lawns alive, not to mention all the water that's wasted.

For the first few years after we moved here, we didn't use any pesticides on our lawn. My father didn't believe in them. However, the excessive weed growth couldn't be controlled through organic means, so we unfortunately resorted to pesticides (albeit minimal amounts of them).
Hah, you know that Adam has to actually do something when we've started discussing pesticides in his thread.
Thanks for the thoughts, Chloe. I didn't know that lawns were an import from England but boy does that make sense.

hah Lexi
I am SO exhausted.
Adam really needs to do something. And if he is doing something right now we need to find out about it so we can actually talk about him and not be more off- topic than we already are.
Yeah, good one, Lexi. What's up, Alex?

ehh..long story. I am having some dificulties with my dance studio i'm currently attending. I went to competition on Sunday an didn't get to bed until around 1:30 and it's throwing off my whole week. I am also just thinking a lot about my dance teacher who passed away last june and I am having a hard time believing it has been a year already without him. I miss him terribly and am having a rough time. =/
Meh. My world certainly isn't ending over the fact that there's no Adam news right now. It's more impatience than unhappiness, and worry that he'll fade to oblivion. But it's waaaay too soon.
I'm gonna listen to that interview later. :)
ETA -- Lexi, aside from simply being good for your health, I think the philosophy behind organic food is mainly that with organic foods like... packaged things -- drinks, soups, snacks, whatever -- companies that produce organic food are a lot more allergy-saavy. When you buy organic food, it's much easier to find things that are, for example, milk-free.
