When you buy organic food, it's much easier to find things that are, for example, milk-free.
Yeah. I've mentioned this before, but I still remember most of the animal-derived products commonly found in packaged foods under other names from my super vegetarian phase. If you're a regular consumer of packaged foods, I'm sure it's very hard to avoid every single product derived from milk, eggs, soy, etc.
And that photo is wonderful.

The companies that produce food like that do it for all sorts of reasons, whether it be that avoiding some ingredient is better for you, or less fattening, or just that a lot of people are allergic to it.
But that's exactly why I absolutely live for health food stores. It's like walking into a little piece of heaven, because it's so unusual for me to find much that I can eat safely.

I've also heard that in many cases, the product is cheaper for the company to use as well.
We had a health food store here, but it closed years ago. We have organic sections in our supermarkets, but I'm sure the selection doesn't compare to a true health food store's selection.
Thank God I'm out of here in three months.

Posted: 5/9/06 at 6:25pmPackaged food? I don't know. The companies are greedy and know the public will buy it. Heh.

Anything organic is more expensive to grow, if only because it's not produced on a huge factory farm. It's usually more labor intensive too, involving hand weeding and more "tending" in general. I'm willing to pay more for the reasons I've already gone into.
By the way, cotton is probably the biggest user of pesticides on the planet. The plants have become so dependent on chemicals that only a few survived when a patch was grown without them. The grower then took those survivors from several generations and eventually came up with plants that could be grown organically. Buying organic cotton products is a very good thing to do.

Posted: 5/9/06 at 6:34pmOh, I wasn't saying that organic food is cheaper to produce. It's definitely more expensive to produce. I was saying that companies often use animal-derived ingredients in packaged foods because they're cheaper than an alternative ingredient. Sorry for the confusion.

As you can see, I was totally confused.
But I get it now.

I adore Whole Foods, but it's an expensive store.

Oh, I see, Lexi.
Emcee, would you post the full-size version of the first CC av you had? I really like that one. And here's another, while we're at it -

I saw a guy walking around town today that looked like Raul...
Then when I did a double-take, he looked like my math teacher, who kinda sorta looks like Raul in a twisted way...
But it wasn't anyone, unfortunately.

These are the ones I had saved:
I agree that the natural (?) hair suits him, and he better not change it (unless it's to black).

I was teaching Sunday School right around the time companies started putting on the nutrition labels "Contains milk, eggs, peanuts" etc. and I was SOOO happy. I hated having to try and decifer the weird chemical names to see if the one kid would be able to eat it. The only thing that bugs me is the "May contain traces of peanuts" one. The whole "may" part is really annoying- shouldn't they know what goes into their product? Does it have peanuts or doesn't it? Figure it out, THEN put it on the shelves for people to buy.
Bittorrent is annoying me. That is all I can say.
Wanting life but never knowing how

Posted: 5/9/06 at 7:05pmThe Aida hair is perfection. He was going blonde when he was 25, so it's probably not an age issue. He just seems delighted to change it all the time.
