Because of the "OMG HOW AMAZING" factor, I'm a little worried about seeing it in a theatre of rentheads. I don't want them to be commenting or doing anything to audibly the first time. If people start talking, I know that will distract me and that will make me really upset. Later it will able to be a fun, perhaps chatty experience, but not yet. At the same time, I'm excited about the Q&A and also about seeing it in that theatre instead of in a crappy movie theatre. For the same reasons though, I don't want to read any reviews or the nitpicky stuff that will go on here (like what happened RIGHT after the clip on Leno) much until I've composed my thoughts.
psh, Allie, you wouldn't poke me, would you?
I'm not sure how I feel about the Ziegfeld, because that's going to be 1200 Rentheads. They're going to moo and sing. And be insane. I'm not into that.

No, I wouldn't poke you! Poking during movies is unacceptable!
Ugh, mooing. I don't know if I could handle mooers in the theatre. And don't even get me started on singing!!
I don't think there are many Rentheads around here. The CD store where I got my soundtrack ordered five copies, and they had three the last time I was in. And I have one of those five. So unless they ordered more... which they tend not to do. Crappy store! That's not to say there won't be a lot of people seeing the movie, but I don't think they'll be hardcore... I dunno!
Rentheads aside, the Ziegfeld is probably the best theater to see the movie in around here - it's technically superb. I've got a ticket for the advance screening at another theater from Bloomies, but I'm thinking of giving that away and going to the benefit one instead. For one thing, I was really moved by the Friends in Deed video at the concert and want to help out some more.
But I'm torn - I have no idea how the projection and sound systems at Symphony Space are and wonder whether the Renthead looniness will be even worse there than at the other venues.
Emcee, I hope you get to see it the way you want. Miss Manners has a wonderful scenario for dealing with this kind of situation. The reply to everything is always "sorry, I can't" without explanation. So, "Can you see the movie with me?" "Sorry, I can't." "But why not?" "I'm sorry, it's just not possible." etc. Explanations can be worked around, you see.
I like that answer. Very much!
Hell, I want a private screening!
People better not sing! (only half joking) I thought they'd be more respectful than that. I hope so at least. :-/ I haven't listened to the soundtrack for the express reason of hearing it with seeing it. I hope that wasn't for nothing. Now, I'm a little worried.
At the first few showings in the city anywhere, I'd expect the Renthead singing and such to be about equal. Maybe the Symphony Space will be better because the actors will be there and it's a serious event? Is that wishful thinking?
You might be right, Alix, which is another reason I'm considering it. I've also avoided listening to the soundtrack, aside from what you hear in the trailers and videos. If someone starts singing I may have to throttle her. (Unfortunately, it's likely to be a her, I think.)
Emcee, if any fan deserves a private screening, it's you!
I would certainly join you in throttling! There should be an announcement beforehand telling people to listen, not sing.
Throttle is fun to say. hehe.
Oh, I will join!
Happy Anniversary,Allie! November is a good month! You know why???
'Cause my birthday's in it!!!!!
Oh, yeah, and that movie thing...
You guys think the cast will only be there for the Q&A or do you think they'll watch the movie with the audience? By then, God knows how many times they may have had to watch it.

That's a good point. I assumed they'd be there, but who knows.
The benefit would probably be only the third time, after their private screening and the premiere. It probably all depends on how each of them feels about seeing him or herself on screen. Some actors hate it and others don't mind. It's kind of like listening to your own voice - I'm sure you've all that "ewww" reaction hearing it on tape.
My birthday's in November too, Atrias.

Mines in November too!! We should have a party!!
*bounce* Three weeks! Three weeks! Three weeks!!!!!!!!!!
Very true, Chloe. Well I'll be there, ready to hurt anyone who sings or moos.

The actors who were at the 24 hour plays said that they loved the movie. Wilson even said that when he was watching, he got so engrossed with Angel dying, that he forgot he played Angel. Also, from reading what they've said so far and watching the blogs, I'd think that they would want to experience watching it with the fans, at least once.
I'll bring my bamboo stick, and then I'll hurt anyone who pisses me off.
Anthony and I watched some of the blog videos together. I.... no, I have nothing to say. I tend not to talk about it. Except that I just blogged about how surreal my life is becoming.
I should go to sleep.
The bamboo stick would be perfect for the job. It would certainly be my weapon of choice. Can you imagine their reactions of amazement as they fall to the ground (for the rest of the movie, when the effect will be forgivingly lost), uable to sing anymore?
*giggles with glee* I wouldn't use a bamboo stick. I'd use a nine iron.
Random notes: tonight is the eighth anniversary of Adam's last performance at the Nederlander.
I'm having a hard time keeping myself from looking at the review thread with spoilers - not that it's the spoilers I mind so much. I just don't want to read a lot of other opinions before I see the movie for myself.

And then he had eight years to think about it!
I can't help looking. I can't!
Right, I feel like I already know too much.
Emcee, where's that "eight years" quote from? Seems very familiar...
On one of the blog videos, Adam was talking about doing Rent on stage versus doing Rent on film, and basically said that for him, it was the difference between approaching the role as a singer versus approaching the role as an actor. So he precedes his comments with "WELL. I had eight years to think about it!" His tone was just so funny.

I'm trying to steer clear of those threads as well. I also tried to stay away from the threads about the soundtrack before I got it. I didn't succeed very well.
You all have much better self control than I do! I can't help looking. I NEED to know! Which is kind of sad...
