Wait, I thought he fell asleep! How could he hate something he didn't even see? :-P
Your grandma sounds like the cutest person! I hope your mom LOVES it, so then she'll understand.
He hated what he did see.
My grandma wanted to know who all of those "good looking guys!!" were on TV. And then she wanted to know which one was the lead, but decided that it must be "the cute blonde with the glasses."
... then she called my mom and asked how many of them were gay.
My mom will probably hate it. We'll see...
My dad is mad at me because I gave my mom the OBC AND the movie soundtrack to put in her car.
YES Shiksa Goddess2! omg i am bouncing of the walls!! AHH!! SO EXCITED! i can't concentrate on my homework...lol

I'm seeing it tomorrow!!!!!! (hopefully). My two friends and I have passes for a screening, but we're going to have to camp out in order to get in. It shall be fun.
My mom and grandma want to see it, too - I don't know about my dad. He'll probably go if my mom goes. I think my parents will like it.
I saw Harry Potter yesterday, and it hit me during the previews for the movie - RENT will be up there, on the BIG screen. Wow. It's still very surreal for me.
I think the second time it'll be real, to me. I'll know what I'm in for, and won't have to sit there wondering "how will they do the next number?"
My mom IMed me the other night while she was watching TV. She had just seen an ad for the movie, and she was all "OMG we have to go see this!" I was really excited, because I know she likes musicals but I wasn't sure if she would be into seeing Rent. Now I'm actually looking forward to going home for Thanksgiving.
Between all of the clips and interviews and other promotional things I keep watching and the soundtrack ads in front of the Tower Records I walk past on the way to classes every day, I'm bouncing off the walls waiting until I can finally see the movie.

shiksa-absolutely! i can't wait either. my mom preordered tickets for me an a few friends for wednesday's showing, and it's getting so hard to wait. at least it's only 3 days away!
my parents hated the show as well, but my mom is willing to give the movie a chance, so she's coming with.
i'm just afraid that i'm going to freak people in the theatre out because i'm going to be sobbing like a baby during ICY:R.
I've gotten so caught up in the publicity that I keep forgetting that I'll actually be seeing it soon (Tuesday night at Symphony Space).
I've been posting all over that a whole bunch of articles on it came out today, mostly from the press junket interviews. Yesterday when I googled Adam news there were sixty-some articles, a lot of them duplicate small announcements of upcoming movies or articles from the theater sites. Today there are fifteen or so new ones from newspapers all over the country.

*bounces in* Guess what guys? RENT *is* coming out here! A movie theatre added it to their playing times for Wednesday. I was so relieved!

GAH!
Yay, theatrebabe! That's good, now you won't have to hitchike to another state to see it!

Haha. I'm very glad about that as well. It would have been very annoying. The parentals might not have been such a big fan of it either.
I wasn't thinking annoying so much as potentially life threatening, actually. 3 more daaays!!!
I'm really happy for you, theatrebabe. Do you live outside the big cities? If so, I'm not surprised that it will be harder to find. Some managements must feel that it will be a risky sell in their areas.
I haven't been looking at the reviews thread, so I don't know if the Hollywood Reporter one was posted there. Apparently it's a RAVE, which makes me feel really good. Hollywood Reporter and Variety are the two main trade papers, and their reviews are quite hard-headed and reliable.

I don't live in a very small city. Not a big city either though. About 36,000 people. College town. I was really surprised when I couldn't find it.
Yay for good reviews.
Yeah, a college town seems like a good bet - unless it's in Texas or something. I skimmed the review, skipping the spoilerish parts, and it said Rent was the best movie musical in years, fresh and audacious, or something like that. It also said that it would need some very smart marketing to succeed outside the major cities.

I just got back from the theatre (Harry Potter!). I stood in the lobby for a few minutes afterward to admire the Rent poster in its lovely glass case. People kept stopping to look at it, so I edged closer to hear what they were saying. I caught, "There are ads for this ALL over the TV." I couldn't tell if they were happy with that fact or not, heh.
Chloe, do you have the link to the rave review?
I walked by the Ziegfeld today. They have Rent stuff up outside. It's weird!
Real and unreal, kind of? I walked by at around seven the night of the premiere - there was still a lot of shouting and flashes going on the tent though I couldn't see much. But the Rent logo on the marquee was quite something.
Here's the link. I don't know whether it'll be good beyond today or not.
Hollywood Reporter
Exactly. It was right there in front of me, in one of the most famous movie theatres in the country. But I was like "huh? NO!"
Thanks! Yay.
Double post.
Woah! How did I post at 6:23, then at 6:22?! That's wierd.
