Yes, go see Rent, CQ! Listening to the recording is not enough!
I *finally* met Mr. Shields last night. He's sweet.
He's VERY sweet.
...And he gives really, really nice hugs. *gushes at that memory* He also hugged a friend of mine for a picture, and she's never looked happier in a single snapshot before, ha!

Did you bat your eyelashes at him and slip him your phone number complete with a lipstick kiss?
nah, I just shook his hand and got really shy.
I didn't, either. That'd be a bit much.
But I HAVE visited his official message board before.

Aww, shy is cute! As long as you weren't shy to the point as being seen as mentally challenged...were you?
'course not. I was very well behaved. *nod*

Did you meet him in the course of your job? I guess you had to maintain an air of professional dignity. *nod*
nah, a friend of mine is friends with someone who knows him, and I was with her. RENT was on the way to the subway, so she introduced me to him.
The job people are tough, though... since I'm a big fan of many of them.

I often wish I lived in NYC.

A few people. I met Jesse Martin at a party last week, so not technically because of the internship.

That guy off Law & Order?
I'm kidding!
I know he was on Ally McBeal too.
ha, was he really?
Broadway Legend Joined: 9/20/04
Like, yes! He dated Ally for at least ten episodes!
Was he friendly when you met him?
Jesse? He's like a big teddy bear... that's probably the only reason I was able to act like a normal person and walk up to him and say hello.

What type of party was it? A relaxed affair? I don't know what I'd say to appear intelligent. 'OhmygoshIloveRent' would seem a bit twit-like.
Opening night party. He walked right by me, and I had been wanting to say something, so I was like "um, Jesse?" He turned right around - he has the best smile - and I said something about how I was sure he wouldn't remember, but we'd met before, and I sort of just wanted to say hello. I didn't appear very intelligent, I'm sure, but at least it was a sentence that didn't include any "oh my God" or "I love..." phrases.
Good move, Emcee.
But, aw, it's nice to just be able to drop in and say hello to these people. :) I know someone who lives on Long Island and has said 'Hi' to Billy Joel a few times...

gah. Billy Joel.
Thanks, Ellie. I think I stuttered a little... but of course in... dazzling fashion?

I bet he thought it was (dazzlingly) cute - as long as you didn't drool on him, I'm sure you'll be remembered favorably!
How did he respond, anyway? And just how many Rent OBCers have you met now?
Billy Joel scares me a bit. His wife is about the same age as me! (1!
