Ugh... the Raul-related board fights.... *crawls into a corner*

Some of the Raul fangirling got wierd, I guess. Didn't someone tell him about it once? *tries to recall the tale of the Esparzaheads*
No. Someone posted as him one night, but wasn't really him. One of the sock puppets threatened to tell him, or something like that. Or, they just tried to say that he reads the boards.

Ha, really? What'd the puppet say?
I think he mentioned boards in an interview once. Or maybe I'm crazy. It's perfectly possible that he's skimmed over bww once or twice to see how audiences react to shows he's been in, but I highly doubt he really follows things.

Are the Esparzaheads especially weird? (What a loaded question!)
I remember earlier on reading a lot of anxiety about Adam seeing this thread, but that seems to have passed.
Raul had spoken at the Chatterbox about how message board reviews, especially ones that are written while the show is still in previews, and thus a work in progress, can truly hurt the show's success. He seemed to speculate things like that hurt Taboo from the beginning. It may have been mentioned elsewhere, but that's the reference that came up during the Chatterbox discussion.
I re-read what was left of the thread about a week ago.
ETA - Chloe, not really any weirder than we are, but there are powers that be around here to stop fangirling or whatever you want to call it with him.

So what did the fake Raul puppet say?
Poor Cuban. People do love him, even if his shows don't always do so well. Emcee, when you see him on Friday, you should ask what fan reviews he does read.
"there are powers that be around here to stop fangirling or whatever you want to call it with him."
Well that is kind of weird. My mind boggles at the idea of someone trying to do that with Adam. Hopeless task, it would seem.
No. That's something I'm not going to be responsible for doing.
Chloe, it's his webmaster. LONG story.
That's one hell of a webmaster. You're going to Chitty on Friday?
Yep. I feel like I've been waiting a year.
Do you get butterflies for performers? It really depends on the situation, but sometimes I get so nervous for ones I care about before a show that I can hardly stand it.
I care a lot. I want the show to be a success for him, because of what happened with Taboo and The Normal Heart last year. He deserves success, and he deserves a show that is successful enough to outlast him. I'm also really nervous for him, because I've been hearing really mixed stuff about this performance. And I know it's not going to be that shining Raul I'm used to and I want to see up there, because this just isn't the part for him, no matter which way you look at it. He's talented enough that I believe he's capable of doing almost anything, and doing it more than passably, but this isn't going to be one of those performances where Raul = pure perfection. In terms of writing about it, I'll probably have a tough time criticizing him, and will find myself wanting to do a lot of balancing to make sure I point out that even though this just isn't the part for him, that doesn't mean I'm going to love him any less, be any less of a fan, or let any of my belief in his talent slide. I just want him to do well up there, and dance his adorable little bum off.

Oh Chloe, I always do. Even though I've never seen a performer I'm a fan of, I get nervous about how they'll be reviewed. The Rent movie will kill me.
Raul would do better if he had his cute little belly button pierced.
re: the RENT movie, I'm wondering how different film criticism is from theatre criticism. I mean, I guess there are different things critics look at and focus on in different media, for one. And I wonder how stage actors are generally recieved in film. I don't see many movies, so I'm very far out of the loop there. Chloe, any thoughts?
Raul would do better if he were straighter. The bellybutton ring, therefore, would be counteractive.

Raul would lose some of his charm by being straight. Therefore, he should further his unstraight perfection with a naval piercing. It would be ridiculously hot, too.
You *know* I'm not complaining.

No matter how badly the Rent movie is recieved, they'll never be able to take our stage Rent away from us! Never!

The Bitches are doing smashingly, thanks for asking, Som! We've been stupid busy so it hasn't grown much lately, plus we're all on AIM so we talk on there and then the thread dies for a few hours and gets revived once we scatter away from each other.
Meh.
How are the Adam Lovers doing? (I really shouldn't insinuate that I'm different, since I AM an Adam Lover, but it's just so much more PC to refer to you guys as that over "the ones who need lofes", eh?)
Stop it, you'll hurt him.
Helloooo, Tiff!

Tiff, you're an Adam Lover when you're not busy with your first priority, The Bitches. You're just a petty second-classer. *sticks nose in the air*
We're doing alright. There isn't much Adam to discuss, but this thread was never really about him to begin with.
Did Miss Yaley English Major seriously just write "recieved", or are my pretty almond-shaped eyes deceiving me? Ellie dear, remember. "i" before "e", except with "c" or "weird".

I take the 5th.
One good thing about film criticism is that there is a lot more of it - a movie doesn't depend on a few critics in NY for its reviews. In general a lot of film critics probably wouldn't know if someone were primarily a stage actor or not, but the fact that the OBC is in RENT is already pretty well publicized. If anything, I would expect the critics to respect them for their stage careers.
The director is likely to take a lot more credit/blame for a movie than a stage show, I think, which is appropriate. He has much more control. I also think the OBC has an advantage in that most of them don't have much of a previous track record to compare them against. Newbies tend to get a break.
All that said, if the reviews start off being not very good, I'll probably stop reading them. And I'll probably see the movie before I read any reviews. This is one where I really want to be uninfluenced by anyone else's opinion.
Thanks, Chloe. I don't usually read film reviews, so come RENT, I'll probably just stick to that.
