"So, how does everyone feel about Adam in Tarzan?"

I think he should do it.. i want to see him in a lot of lead roles while hes still at the top of his game, and at the moment i cant really think of anything bigger/more challenging. but he did say he was interested in chicago-- id love to see him in that too-- what a unique Billy he would make! i dont know. i would be happy if he would just get his butt back on broadway

It's hard for me to form an opinion on it (Tarzan) since there's so little to base it on right now. But I do like Phil Collins' music -- all the way from his Genesis stuff to the more recent work, including the stuff he wrote for Tarzan -- and I don't think I would mind hearing Adam sing those songs at all. It's hard to say, since we really have very little information on it. But, I think Adam would sound great on some of that music!

I don't know how much of the music from the movie they're going to keep, but it would be fun to hear what Adam does with 'Son of Man'. I would really, really like to hear that.

They have a similar 'fuzzy' quality to their voice... except Phil Collins doesn't... erm, screech... or scream... or whatever it is Adam does. Tarzan! Updated On: 9/15/04 at 11:32 PM

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't posted much, been busy. But I hope Adam does something on Broadway soon. In that interview he said that if they were to ever revive Chess (Which I think they should) he said he would love to do that again. Now if only Raul, Josh, Julia, and Sutton would be up for it, that would be an amazing show revival. Going to bed now. Happy Adam dreams everyone!

Hi Lara!!

He's got to get into another show soon, if for nothing else than my mental stability. I KNEW I should've gotten tickets to Hair. *kicks self*
Going by that interview, personally, I'd love to see him take a shot at Chicago. It could happen....

Again, not sure about Tarzan, but I would LOVE to hear Adam sing "You'll Be in my Heart". Phil Collins music really fits adam's voice. I think i read somewhere recently that he is a big fan of Phil's music.

And hi lara! Emcee is slacking

Emcee isn't slacking - Lara's been here before!

"You'll Be in My Heart!" That's it! Last night amasis and I were talking about Tarzan music and for like an hour I was like "That song. You know, the one Phil Collins sings. Oh wait... he sings most of them. Well, that song. You know!" Now I know. Tarzan!

The Tarzan songs make me want to throw something and blast other music.... Even Adam singing them would be too awful for me to sit through. I would love to see him do Chicago or a new musical, one that isn't a megamusical Disney thing. I'm not knocking Aida, but he's going to pigeonhole himself with being the mass-produced generic lead if he does all Disney. (And yes, I know he did Cabaret, but I'm talking about creating roles, the ones people remember most and hear on OBCRs.) I hope he challenges himself a little more.

sorry! If I am gone and I miss alot of posts i just skip over them! Sorry Lara!

If Adam did Chicago, he still wouldnt be creating a new role.

While I see what you're saying, he's clearly aware of the pigeonholing issue. He definitely knows that he's got to keep people on their toes to avoid being "the rock guy," but I think this could be good for him - a lot of the technical people from Aida are involved; that's got to be good for something.

Also IF he does play the story teller, it sounds like it will be mostly singing. I am getting the feeling of the narrator in Joseph (a great role by the way). You dont have to be a terrific actor for that, though trying more challenging acting roles will help him in that aspect (i.e. Cabaret). He would be a perfect "story-teller" for Tarzan, if it is what i am picturing!

It would be very, very easy for Tarzan to become a flashy, bland megamusical. Also, how much credibility does it have in the theatre buisness? The story is eh and it's backed by a big cooperation. It's the kind of thing people won't remember for any reason other than it had elaborate sets. I guess I just hope Adam gets something better than and empty mass-produced musical.

I really dont care WHAT he does he just needs to get his butt back on broadway or at least decide what he's going to do so I have something to look forward to. Him getting a role that challenges him and really shows off his talent would be an added bonus though Tarzan!

Insomniak, it could end up that way, or it may end up well. The Disney stuff that's on Broadway now is big and flashy, but (IMO, at least) it's got more theatrical credibility than something like Mamma Mia! or Bombay Dreams. To a certain degree, that's a matter of personal opinion. But think of Aida - that was big. The music was written by Elton John or all people. The sets were huge, the lights were bright... it was flashy, but beautiful. I certainly think it had merit, and Tarzan may very well end up similarly. I guess that since I'm missing Aida so much, I can only hope for the best.

Emcee, I love you and Aida is nice... but it wasn't greatly reviewed and I don't see it being a revered show twenty years down the road. Good, not legendary. I just want Adam to do a show that would prove his worth on broadway.

I really wanted to go to the Hair concert, but not living in New York kind of makes it hard, oh well, I'll eventually see it(cough, cough). When I move to New York I fear Adam will take out a restraining order because I'll see everything he's in.
This might sound like a stupid idea, but I was thinking, they did Pippin at my college a few years ago, and since Wicked is doing so good right now maybe they would want to cash in on some of Stephen Schwartz's old stuff I think Adam would do good in that. I would love to hear him sing "With You" if nothing else.
Thanks for the welcome Girl In The Frock, even though I've posted before. I apperciate it anyway!

"You'll Be In My Heart" is an ok song... it's nice -- sweet and sentimental, and I think Adam can very easily sing that. I'd love to hear him in "Son of Man" especially, and also "Strangers Like Me". He could go have a bit of fun in those... Tarzan!

I have no clue what the production is going to be like -- I haven't been really following all the workshop news, if there were any, but I'm just excited that Phil Collins is writing this. (In case you can't tell already Tarzan!) Obviously the work is slightly different than his Genesis and solo career stuff, but I thought what he did for the movie was great, so I'm looking forward to him 'completing' this into a fully developed musical. I realize he's not going to be in the band playing the drums every night, but I'm sure he can do some really fun things with the drum work for Tarzan... :) I loved all those percussions at the beginning of "Two Worlds" in the movie.

OK. Done with my Phil Collins rambling (for now). Tarzan! Has anyone heard whether Mark Mancina is also involved in the Tarzan musical?

Oh, and about Adam, since this is his thread :), I wish Chess would return to Broadway and we can really see him act the role of Freddie. And Pippin? That's interesting :). Updated On: 9/17/04 at 10:27 PM
