A quick threadjack of a threadjack...

Like Pascal's triangle! ::giggles::

My friends all pronounce it wrong...and give me weird looks for pronouncing it right.

Yeah, I don't get it - so many people pronounce it wrong. But then again, how often do you actually hear it said? So, I guess it's excusable. Usually when people mess up they say it like Pascle... like rhyming with circle. Very odd.

wow, PasCAL...that's going to be hard to get used to

I pronounced it wrong for the longest time until I asked Emcee, and she said the same thing to me! pasCAL. Like the triangle!

On the recording of him singing "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", the announcer is like PasssssCCAAAAAAL!!! It drives me insane!

hahahaa, the one at the end of that recording is Nathan Lane. He makes me laugh.

::cracks up::

Well, at least there are fewer ways to mispronounce it than there are for Idina...even the ushers at the Gershwin were pronouncing her name wrong last time I was there.

How DO you pronounce it? I-dee-na? Or is it uh-dee-na? Or a-dee-na?

Adam says EYE-dina. He grew up with her, so I trust him... but her given name is apparently Adina or something like that, which is pronoucned like it looks; it's Hebrew, and you hear the A. I think it actually ends up being an "uh" kind of sound unless you REALLY accent the "eye" sound, which can sound a little weird. That's usually what I do.

Okay, thanks. I always pronounced it I-dee-na (with the I sounding like "eye"). *shrugs* If Adam says it like that, I'll use that pronunciation.

I know I read that it was originally Aedena Mentzel and she changed it later on. Methinks her parents were a little vowel-happy.

I will watch the video clip later tonight and have a little gigglefest. I remember there was an Aida one way back... I know the link is somewhere in this thread but I know I'll never find it. Does anyone remember what it was?

ETA- why did Adam sing at a Christmas Tree lighting in Nova Scotia anyway?

Not necessarily vowel-happiness; that's what you get when you use Hebrew transliteration - lots and lots of vowels.

AIDA video clips? Hmmm? Oh! The closing night interview?

That might be it.

We ought to have a little archive post, so we can keep track of all the other Adam-love threads (like the Joe's Pub one) and these miscellaneous links.

I have that one saved on my computer; it's only a few seconds, though. A quick threadjack of a threadjack...

Ah! I just found the Aida video yesterday, and now I can't remember what page it was on!

He wasn't in Nova Scotia (though I wish he had been!), he was in Boston. Nova Scotia donates the tree to Boston every year for their help after the Halifax Explosion (that's why he's singing about that).

A quick threadjack of a threadjack...

So why was he in Boston?

I might be able to find the link, I dunno... This thread needs its own search engine.

That was during the Cabaret run; I guess they just asked him to go up and do that.

I may be thinking of a different Aida video... I found it on this thread on its early pages, somewhere before the 80's pages. There was a conversation about the funny faces he made at the end during Elaborate Lives.

haha, those are just promo clips.... from Chicago, I think.

I saw an interview a while back where she said it was pronounced "eh", but who knows. The thing about Adam having grown up with her...yeah, you would think he would know...but I have friends I've known for *ages* who can't pronounce my last name, and it's not even close to being that hard.

I'm just going to prounounce it "Eye-dee-na" like I always have, and I'm hoping Adam is right A quick threadjack of a threadjack...

I really do love the lumberjack Adam. (I'm so late on that comment). He looks so cute.
