Speaking of chest voice vs head voice... His head voice is beautiful, no? I love when he uses it on the AIDA OBCR. But there are certain notes that, for some reason, he belts out when doing it live (like in Radames Letter or Elaborate Lives). I don't know why. I really like it when he goes into falsetto.
Okay, I like just about anytime he opens his mouth, so maybe that was a silly statement.
Oh, Emcee.. referring to what you said a couple posts back, I think he doesn't use the upper register for "will forget" cause it can be even harder to switch at that point, easier to try to belt it out. But mostly, I think because then he won't sound "angry" enough, which is what he may be going for =).

Can I have a little cheat sheet for all these different kinds of voices? Which is which?
yes! when he sings "i love you" at the end of Radames Letter on the OBCR in falsetto i just melt!

If you google it you may be able to find more coherent explanation than you would from me. Or maybe there are singers here who are also teachers and can explain better. Roughly though:
*Chest Register: is a deeper full sound. Same voice you use in speech, and it's what you use to get to the lower notes of your range. You feel the resonance in your chest when you're singing this.
* Middle Register: blend of chest and head register. It's when you're moving from your chest voice to your head voice. Once you can do the transition smoothly, it can be called middle register.
* Head voice: You use this to sing the higher notes. My teacher always says that for this you should feel the resonance in the cheekbones.
* Falsetto: really high notes usually really light in tone, and usually only done by men.
edited to add: insomniak -- also, if a note is in a transition range between one register and the next, the blending can be tricky to do. So if Adam cracks is not because the note too high for him; he just couldn't quite negotiate that transition between head/chest. And the vowel sound is difficult ("will") and he's trying to be angry and growly. =)

"nah - dont think rubber ducky. Think dog toy."
Okay. Too funny. Just too funny.
And yes. Anytime Adam opens his mouth = Love. I'm not a singer at all, but I get what you're saying, amasis. The jump between the notes might be too much, and it does need to sound angry. Adam's falsetto is too sweet and pretty. Oh well, more power to him, since we all know he CAN do it.
Yes, Emcee, and if its possible for adam to make that switch it would sound SO unnatural, that i'd rahter the crack.
He could however just not take it up to that note.
Like Cheyenne's? His WIll FORGET is SO low, it almost made me laugh!
QM
LOL! I know someone who's heard Cheyenne hit the note. But, Cheyenne is also something like 5 years younger than Adam. Part of me wonders if that has anything to do with it. Richard Blake took it down REALLY low. I don't think Adam will ever take it down because he knows he's Adam and he can do it.
When I saw Cheyenne sing it, he hit the note. I was like "wow!" Its possible!
Emcee, he can't though!!!
HA!
QM
Yes, Cheyenne can hit the note... because he brings it all the way down! Believe me, I have the proof *cough*
QM
He can!! Sometimes. Maybe not so much these days.
By the way, someone in CompulsiveBowler said that in the score, it's not supposed to be that high. Either Adam took it higher in rehearsal and now he's stuck with it. . Or maybe they just changed it in the published score? I don't know.
LOL QM! I'd have loved to see Cheyenne, actually. He's so great.
I'm still crossing my fingers for our boy on Sunday, though. Something tells me he might just do it on Sunday... or I'm just a sick little optimist - one of the other.
He likes to show off, I guess. Works for me
QM
wasnt originally there? How ironic.
Emcee, Undiscovered and everyone else who is going...
We HAVE to agree on this... if he hits it we ARE so going to cheer, right?
QM
Lets make a list of all who is going! - and it is agreed to go nuts!
Wouldn't it be funny if you suddenly heard this single big cheer after Will Forget because I thought he hit it but no one else agreed with me!!!
I'd die!!!
QM
Absolutely, QM. I'll go nuts.
"Either Adam took it higher in rehearsal and now he's stuck with it"
LOL! That'd be so funny. Funny thing - that last note in "Willkommen," he was TOTALLY showing off... took it up REALLY high. I loved it, though.
ahh! QM! I would die too! From LAUGHING!
Shall we boo him if he doesn't hit it
QM
LOL, QM I'd laugh at you if you did that!! And NO! I'd never boo my Adam... even if he squeaks.
lol even if he is our little chew toy!
"Wouldn't it be funny if you suddenly heard this single big cheer after Will Forget because I thought he hit it but no one else agreed with me!!!"
That's when Adam will *really* think, "wtf...????!!!"
Wouldn't be the first time a fan has caused him to think that.
