re: Desperate Housewives

classic television bait and switch. they played it in the beginning as if she committed suicide because she wasn't happy with her "wifely duties". but (and i am sure everybody saw right thru this) they revealed that her suicide had more to do with what was buried in the yard (or what she or her husband had to do with it). i'm guessing there will be yet another switch, hopefully more exciting and opaque than the last. the show was great and i laughed my a** off.

re: Desperate Housewives

FYI --

"Desperate Housewives" on Sunday brought ABC its largest audience for a series debut in eight years and emerged as the highest rated series telecast on any network among total viewers and adults 18-49 on a Sunday in more than one year. This is particularly noteworthy, because even though it contains elements of both drama and comedy, "Housewives" is first and foremost a glossy soap opera. Prime time soaps were hugely successful in the '80s and '90s, but in recent years have been treated like bacteria by network executives because they don't repeat well. Still, the audience - especially the young female audience - continues to support well done entries in the genre, as seen by the growing ratings for "The O.C." on Fox and "One Tree Hill" on The WB and now "Desperate Housewives" on ABC.

It was incredibly shrewd of ABC executives to observe that young adult women were not being served by the glut of reality and procedural crime drama series on the broadcast networks and to target them with this show. Last I heard, young women were a sizeable and important component of the prime time television audience.

re: Desperate Housewives

This show is soooo weird! There are what appear to be...actors on the TV. And then they start talking...is that dialogue?? Sometimes they are on what I think are sets! It's all just so different!!!

re: Desperate Housewives

Something tells me it wasn't just young adult women who were watching. This is definitely a "gay-friendly" series. And that's no accident. It's being produced by openly gay producer Marc Cherry, whose other claim to fame is "The Golden Girls". In a recent interview Cherry stated that he planned on bringing a "dishy" gay sensibilty to the show.

re: Desperate Housewives

I just finished watching it for the first time. It was like Stepford Wives meets Sex In The City. I can't believe this show is so good not to mention funny and is on ABC.

Just watched it, so much fun. What did I miss in the first episode? I kinda get the measuring cup thing, but a lot of it is lost to me.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
Pilot Episode
Air Date: 10/03/2004

In the series premiere, "Pilot," looking down on her friends and family isn't a way of life for Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong)... it's a way of death. One day, in her perfect house, in the loveliest of suburbs, Mary Alice ended it all. Now she's taking us into the lives of her family, friends and neighbors, commenting from her elevated P.O.V.

Her small circle of girlfriends are wondering why one of their own would do something so rash... and so messy. There's Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), the divorcee and single mom who will go to extraordinary lengths for love; Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), the ex-career woman who traded the boardroom for boredom, mixed with moments of sheer panic as the mother of four unmanageable kids; Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross), the Martha Stewart on steroids, whose family is about to mutiny; and Gabrielle Solis, the ex-model with everything she's ever wanted - a rich husband, a big house - so what is she doing with John, the 17-year-old gardener (Jesse Metcalfe)? And there are her neighbors, including serial divorcee Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan), whose romantic conquests have everyone buzzing.

Then there are the men: Hunky new neighbor Mike Delfino (James Denton), a supposedly widowed plumber who has Susan and Edie vying for his attention; Rex Van De Kamp (Steven Culp), who's just told Bree he wants a divorce; Gabrielle's better half, Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira), who figures he bought his wife a $15,000 diamond necklace, so she should do whatever he tells her; as for Mary Alice's newly-widowed husband, Paul (Mark Moses), there must be a reason why he's acting so suspiciously - and why he's digging up the pool in the middle of the night!

From her unique vantage point, Mary Alice sees more now than she ever did alive, and she's planning to share all the delicious secrets that hide behind every neighbor's closed door in this seemingly perfect American suburb.

re: Desperate Housewives

Great show. Every episode seems to have a mystery. The plumber neighbor seems to be watching someone. He has maps and pictures on his wall. I did not connect Mary Alice's threatening note which made her commit suicide with the husband digging up the yard. I thought that was seperate. If she got the note, how would he know about it?

re: Desperate Housewives

interesting but i think there's a connection between Mary Alice's death and that plumber suddenly moving into town.

re: Desperate Housewives

I enjoy this show a great deal.
It was so enjoyable to watch Nicolette's character get spiked at dinner, she's an interesting villian. What's in the toy chest? And handgun, stack of money, and a detailed map of the neighborhood. Between this and LOST, I think ABC is making a move. Bravo!

re: Desperate Housewives

ABC in Washington, DC pre-empted Desperate Housewives so they could show the Redskins football. DH did not air until after midnight. I definitely phoned in my complaint. Not everyone likes football, especially the Redskins.

Set my VCR, watched the tape this morning. I will say that the gardener is a HOTTIE!!!

re: Desperate Housewives

I loved when she pushed the gardener (John) out the window, the underwear he had been wearing not thirty seconds prior to that under his towel was gone and upon closer inspection it was clear that his manhood had been digitally erased or "digitally castrated". Had it been on HBO we may have been able to see something, but since it was on ABC he looked like a Ken doll. I have way too much time on my hands... anyway, check that sh*t out...

Well, until Rob lets us upload pictures into the threads ourselves that's the best I can do. Although, this is pretty much a prime example of why he wouldn't want us to... re: Desperate Housewives Actually, I take that back. It's pretty much just me. I'm the prime example of why he doesn't want to do that...

re: Desperate Housewives

So, I'm finally able to watch this show but I missed the first episode. Can someone tell me why Teri Hatcher burned down that house?
