Hey Mike!
hi mike!
Hey...FINALLY(kinda forgot I had it) playing highlights from Wicked and Miss Saigon on my clarinet. Really cool for the most part, except it's a full band arrangement so I don't always have the melody and sometimes I'm trying to figure out what the hell I'm playing ah well, I love this music!
*THREAD JACKING*
I WANNA PLAY WICKED/MISS SAIGON IN BAND!
i'm auditioning for area band, amanda. only thing is...there's gonna be about 2839023802938 other flutes who happen to be much better than me. why didn't i play another, not so popular instrument? like...the base clarinet?
I see a leg.
LMBO!HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry Jamie, was really involved in the music, had to play on the real songs for certain ones to trying to figure out what the hell I was playing(like Defying Gravity I'm actually playing the instrumentational part that accompanies Idina singing the final high part, etc.) and just gleed b/c I pretty much got both pieces down. Couple things...
First in regard to area band and flute, yeah trust me I know, one of my best friend is in music school for flute and I always hear from her how competitive flute is of all instruments. Even in high school and junior high, she would get scores slightly higher than me in NYSSMA but I would make all county or area all state over her b/c clarinets were less competitive. If you're really serious about wanting to do something w/ music in the future or really want to make an area band or something, playing flute, my recommendation is the oboe. The fingerings are the same as flute, you play on a small double reed, so though you hafta adjust to blowing into that, you still keep a very tight embrochure so it would be easiest for you to play, oboe is certainly one less popular. BTW darling, it's bass clarinet as in a deeper, bigger one, not as in a baseball game Bass clarinet is also interesting as it's exact same as clarinet except much bigger. I played it in my first all county b/c that's what I got in. Most clarinetists like myself can play the bass just won't audition it for NYSSMA and such, that's why it comes across as less popular. Furthermore, the parts suck compared to clarinet in a full band.
I'm not actually playing these pieces in band unfortunately, I just visited high school and copied some for myself. I may play w/ the high school for the concert, we'll see. But I have had lots of great pieces to play for years in band. The best had to be 11th grade where we played highlights of RENT, my teacher essentially did it for me. Funny story there, the long song was Finale and I had the female without you part and funny thing I played my clarinet LOUD I play louder than the trombones it was a big joke in high school, anyway one day during band my teacher lectures me on do I think those two notes of without you are the melody and important as the no day but today and I screamed back yes, they're counter melodies, male and female thank you very much, you should know that :-P
Let's see in 5th grade all district we played the actual song, not score for Phantom of the Opera...played highlights from West Side Story in 7th grade all district and 12th grade high school before playing the actual pit, Highlights from Phantom of the Opera in 9th grade all county, Highlights from Ragtime in 10th grade(some awesome clarinet parts) and Highlights from Chicago last year. My teacher loves musicals, what could I say? My sis got to play Les Miz though, I was jealous, never got to play that.
It's funny you say that oboe is the best choice instrument to play due to being less competative becasue I play that in addition to the flute. Never played it in band though, just for fun becasue my brother played it but once he quit it was there and I had nothing better to do than to teach myself to play.
I only played in NYSSMA once but I got a perfect score when I did with a leval 3 solo (sixth grage).
Panda/Jamie: Your so lucky to have had the chance to play broadway highlights in band. The closest I ever got was a comilation of movie theme songs (independance day/007/pink panther and some more were included) We also did a Disney movie highlights one year. I would have loved to do Broadway music.
hay all! Sort of forgot about cam but I knew I was going to be busy but, here now!
~Greg, please tell Sherie that she is in our prayers. Such a loss.
~Sorry, this is old news, but someone mentioned that "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was a good movie. Sort have to disagree there. I mean, I love the story, but this is the order of how I like the different media on it:
1. Play: one of my favorites every done on Broadway (or off-Broadway, can't remember). Gary Sinise was absolutely incredible in it! And if you can't see it being performed, then read the play. It is so good! (oh, and the guy playing Billy Bibbitt was hott!)
2. Book: The book is really good, and the play left out some things from it. It's all from the point of view of Chief Bromden and it gives info about his background and his dreams and why he doesn't talk.
3. Movie: I know that Nicholsen (sp) won the Oscar for it. But thing is, you know him as an eccentric. So, for me, not as convincing as Gary Sinise. and though I love seeing Danny Devito in it and Christopher Lloyd, I just didn't it. sorry.
ok, my rant about that is over.
Pretty good day today. I have decided to take tap dance class, so i bought tap shoes and went to the class with my friend and it was fun! I first became interested in tap when i saw 'Crazy For You' when i was 6. So, my dream is to be in 'Crazy For You' someday, broadway or community or something like that. lol.
so, I guess I missed moonie aka Lesa. oh well! will see her on the slideshow.
working on rdio show. will post the songs for review so you guys can look over them at say if I should add anything or take anything out.
ok, long message. But I haven't been on here since.....last night. And that is a long time for me. lol.
