I ADORED Love and War and watched it religiously. Joanna played a barmaid in a NY bar. Jay Thomas was a newspaper reporter who hung out in the bar, Suzie Plakson was... I think another writer, Charlie Robinson was the Bar keep. Originally Susan Dey was the owner of the bar, but history relates that she and Diane English (series creator) didn't get along, so she was fired and Annie Potts came on board. Joel Murray was also on the show as another "hanging out in a bar" character.
The show was on for a couple of years on CBS. I, too have a few precious episodes on VHS. I pray for it to appear one day in syndication somewhere. The show was created by the Murphy Brown creator. Great writing in the beginning.
Joanna shone in the show. She was always kinda hyper stressed and she even directed a couple of the episodes.
That help?
EDIT: I mean her character on the show was "hyper stressed".

I loved her in her small role in ER as Mark's love interest. Only two episodes or so, and she sneezed a lot in her role, but she was, as usual, great.
Also, I remember watching another TV series she was in, on Lifetime I think. Oh, Baby was the name of it, and I think she directed some of those as well.
Ahhh, the crap I've watched on TV just to get a Joanna fix!

uggghh...I love me some Jimmy Naughton, but that last photo is nasty. That guy sitting on the front of the bed...not sexy!
Oh, and I have no idea what season that was when Joanna was Mark's love interest on ER. It had to be in the first 2 or 3 seasons though.

This first pic is a headshot Joanna was using in the mid 1970's. The second one is from a scene in a play Joanna did in 1986 called "Social Security". I just included it because her look was a little different in this play.

I thought it was season 2 for ER...it was waaaay back when I was still watching ER.
Before each Thursday episode turned into..."an ER event" or an ER not to miss"...or "The one ER episode you must watch". Those commericals still annoy me.

I have lots of clips (this one ranking pretty high on the list, my Love & Wars are also desirable to make it easier to jump to episodes of interest) that I would like to digitize and share. Right now I don't have any form of video input to any of my computers, but my dad has a video capture card. We're going to work on consolidating several Joanna-clips onto fewer VHS tapes this weekend (like put all of the DRS on TV things together that are currently scattered) so hopefully "One Of These Days" (TM) I'll get so port some of that over to computer and into mpeg during a visit to my folks.
On a related note, we're thinking of getting a TiVo and I've heard of hacking that to pull mpeg clips from it via the ethernet interface. If this is doable this might become an easy way for me to mpeg lots of Joanna things in the collection. No promises on turnaround time or feasibility, just things I'm pondering.
To Mamie: Those photos are awesome! May I ask where you found them? Like the program for the show or something else I need to find?

Brooks - there's a book published each year called "Theatre World". These go back (as far as I can tell) to the 1944-1945 theatre season. The book is filled with hundreds of black and white photos from every Broadway and off-Broadway play produced that season. Later editions also included some regional theatre. There is also special sections in the back on new performers appearing that year, winners of the annual Theatre World awards, members of the theatrical community who passed away during that year, etc. Those two pics were from a couple different editions of that book. It's a great reference source for anyone who's interested in the theatre!
The new Playbill "Broadway Yearbook" is a bigger, fancier, colorful version of this book. I hope the Playbill book is successful enough to continue each year and that it starts to include more actual photos from the productions!
