re: The Official Joanna Gleason Love Thread <3

and Brooks_Hatlen...do you have a way of sending that clip to me/anyone? hahaha. i'd love to see it!

I have lots of clips (this one ranking pretty high on the list, my Love & Wars are also desirable to make it easier to jump to episodes of interest) that I would like to digitize and share. Right now I don't have any form of video input to any of my computers, but my dad has a video capture card. We're going to work on consolidating several Joanna-clips onto fewer VHS tapes this weekend (like put all of the DRS on TV things together that are currently scattered) so hopefully "One Of These Days" (TM) I'll get so port some of that over to computer and into mpeg during a visit to my folks.

On a related note, we're thinking of getting a TiVo and I've heard of hacking that to pull mpeg clips from it via the ethernet interface. If this is doable this might become an easy way for me to mpeg lots of Joanna things in the collection. No promises on turnaround time or feasibility, just things I'm pondering.

To Mamie: Those photos are awesome! May I ask where you found them? Like the program for the show or something else I need to find?

re: The Official Joanna Gleason Love Thread <3

Brooks - there's a book published each year called "Theatre World". These go back (as far as I can tell) to the 1944-1945 theatre season. The book is filled with hundreds of black and white photos from every Broadway and off-Broadway play produced that season. Later editions also included some regional theatre. There is also special sections in the back on new performers appearing that year, winners of the annual Theatre World awards, members of the theatrical community who passed away during that year, etc. Those two pics were from a couple different editions of that book. It's a great reference source for anyone who's interested in the theatre!

The new Playbill "Broadway Yearbook" is a bigger, fancier, colorful version of this book. I hope the Playbill book is successful enough to continue each year and that it starts to include more actual photos from the productions!

There's another Broadway actor/singer/song writer named Paul Jabara. He was in the original cast of Hair and he was a writer, lyricist, actor, and a few other things in a show called "Rachael Lily Rosenbloom and Don't You Ever Forget It". In one of the write ups of that show his name was spelled three different ways - Jabara, Jbara, and Jbarra. I'm sure when they wrote that they just did a quick check on the last name, saw "Paul" listed and picked it up without really looking at it.

I haven't seen it, sorry.
I don't have a creative caption for the photo either. Again, sorry.

Just wanted to contribute to the thread. I've only seen Joanna Gleason in DRS, but she was wonderful in it!

Jwaa...too true. I remember once on the Into The Woods livejournal community, people were arguing that the Baker's Wife was to blame for basically all of their problems in the show and that she should be hated! I was just like "UHHHHH JUMP BACK."

is she in "Hannah and Her Sisters" or did I just make that up?

Joanna was in that movie. She played Carol, and it might have been her first role on the silver screen. I'm not sure about this. IMDB and JoannaGleason.com both list this as her first file movie appearance, but some of Joanna's early playbills lists this other movie, I can't remember the name of it right now. I'll look it up then.

Gotta jet - the netflix gods just brought us the Tracy Takes On that has Joanna in it. I have never seen this one, and it's getting harder and harder now to track down the things she was in that I haven't seen.

I think the holy grail of Joanna appearances would be to get copies of her show "Personal Side" as this wasn't on broadcast TV and at a time when most home viewers didn't have video tape recording devices.

She's leaving at the end of April. I guess her understudy is doing the show until Lucie starts?

re: The Official Joanna Gleason Love Thread <3

With today bringing Joanna's last DRS performance I thought maybe we should breath some new life back into this old thread.

Part of me is really going to miss her, a lot, but another part of me is anxious to see Lucie as Muriel. It’s kind like that feeling where you want to see neat new things, but deep down you know that what you had will never be surpassed.

Am I the only one going to miss her?
