Kooks. I love you! That is all.
Really, your recap had me howling! *wipes tears away* I'm so glad you stood! Even I have never had the balls to be the only person standing. Seriously, that's awesome!

Glad you had such a great time! Where were your seats?
I'm so happy that he came out of the stage door! Hooray for applause!

Where did you guys sit? Good seats, I take it!
And he said thank you?! Like, on stage? That's so sweet. See, he does appreciate it. My theory is TOTALLY valid.
Your post made me happy!

Oooh! And I love that he said "thank you". Brilliant!
Now if we can only get him to do "trailer trash" Caractacus!
He said thank you after the entrance applause died down...he kind of smiled, was like "Thank you", and then did whatever his line to Grandpa was...I don't recall...because I was DYING. hehe.
Yeah, I like jumped out of my seat when he came out...then looked around...and i was the ONLY one...and I was like well damn, I'm not gonna sit down now!! Haha. I couldn't believe that nobody joined! I mean, you can give the man entrance applause but not a standing o??
ROTFL, Chrys.
oh, and we sat J 2 and 4 (orch, of course.)
awww! That's sweet.
That's actually one of my favorite things about Adam. Without fail, after his bow applause, he will always mouth "thank you" to the audience. It's a really small gesture, but you can tell they don't feel like machines.

Man, I wish I could have joined you guys! Next time, I swear. And I will totally stand with you at curtian. Really, I love that! You are my hero!
I've been where people stand for Marc and Jan -- and as much as I love them, I have to wait for Raul. Then I shoot up. Once, I stood up so fast that I almost slipped and fell over. It was smoothe. I'm the best.
LOL, Em!!

You girls are too much fun!
My mom just sort of looked down at me and shook her head. Like "honey, you're insane." I clapped like a fool.

When I first saw the show, I would start my O when Kevin came out. J'adore Kevin. But the last say, four times I've seen the show, nobody stands. And I'm to chicken to stand alone.
It's really strange too that nobody stands, becuase Raul has always gotten entrance applause when I've been there. Damn New Yorkers, sometimes I think they're too cynical!
I'm going to sleep. Or, I'm gonna try to. I was up coughing for most of last night, combined with bad dreams, which I tend to get when I'm sick.
Sigh. Good night!

I don't understand why people don't stand anymore, either. It doesn't make sense to me.
The matinee on Wednesday was THE most amazing performance of Chitty I have ever seen. I mean, really... it was fantastic. But nobody stood. Grr!
Because they're silly, cynical and probably quite lazy.
Okay, really going, *wave*
Wait, I have a theory!
You know how like... even crappy shows like Brooklyn or Lennon (I loved Lennon, but it wasn't a good show -- totally different issues) always get standing ovations? A lot of times I think it's because people recognize the talent in the performers... not necessarily because they can hack through such crap, but because a lot of the shows I'm talking about are small shows, and ones that highlight the performers. Chitty's inherent hugeness totally downplays the show's perfomers. It's meant to be a show that will withstand casting changes, and it's not a show that means for people to really care about *who* they see. I think that's why they're not so quick to stand -- the actors are like machinery in a show so big as Chitty. And I think that's also why they stand for the car, and not the people.
Good night!

I agree with your theory. And it's sad, really. Sometimes I really do wonder why Raúl decided to do this show. I love it and think he's fantastic in it. But I do wonder.
Actually, before the show started on Wednesday some older man sitting behind me was telling his children that there weren't any stars in the show. I wanted to correct him, but I kept quiet.
Night!

Em, I think you've hit the nail on the head. That is a *very* valid theory.
And good night! I hope you have a decent nights rest and some sweet dreams.
Money makes the world go 'round....
Aside from that, I do believe he wanted the challenge. And for someone like him, the role is probably deceptively easy. It's not his thing, so even though it's more "conventional" than what he's used to, it's a stretch for him.
*pries self away*
Adios!

Greatdct, I know what you mean, but at the same time I get why he did it. It was a challenge. And I think he sort of did it to surprise everybody. Plus, I don't blame him for wanting to do something different. You know, something that would put him in the mood to sing "Everybody Wants to be a Cat" from the Aristocats (I swear, it happened. I witnessed him singing that and I nearly shat myself. It surprised me that much!) when he leaves the theatre. Let's not forget security, and the nice chunk of change he got from this show. AND, with the exception of Erin, the cast is amazing! Jan Maxwell, Rob Sella, Marc Kudisch, Chip Zien.... And look at how great the theatre is! Performing on that stage! Glorious.
