He's sure quick with responses, for what it's worth.

Oh yeah, you're right. I got mine back in like a week.
I always feel kind of bad sending mail. I just feel like I'm putting the person out. But he was nice enough to sign that picture for me and he signed another picture, as well. I thought that was sweet.
He seems to be good with his fans.

Maybe but i thikn i heard he wasn't always nice.
good to know.

Heh. I've been waiting five months for my reponse. Of course, it could be my stupidity when I asked for a signed headshot (No enevlope).
I'd probably go with that, gav. If you provide the supplies, he's quick (and he even returns your sharpies).
greatdct, I think I'd feel like the whole thing were more cheesy if you just ASK for something straight-up. When I left that picture at the theatre for him, I left a long note with it. It's silly, but I felt like I owed him more in writing than "dude, sign this, you're hot."
dlthom, he's usually very friendly, sweet and totally accomodating, and he's just... a good person. Nobody's always nice, though.

Oh I did send him a sweet note. Maybe that's why he was so nice. I would feel bad just being like "Sign this".
I never scanned the other picture but it was just pretty standard. "For Stefanie, with my best, Raul E. Esparza" and then he dated it for me.
Random - but he takes up a lot of room with his sig.
Exactly. People respond to niceness. My note was superbly sappy, but hey, he's a sensitive fellow, so I figured I might as well!
(I just used the word "fellow." I really think I shouldn't be awake.)
Which picture was the other one? I lost the full scan of my autographed ShowPeople picture. It had a little personalized "all the best" note, and then the chest hair thing. heh.
I love love LOVE his signature. The first time I saw Chitty, I brought my Tick, Tick... BOOM! poster with me. He took full advantage of having an entire poster to sign, let me tell you.
Sorry, it's sideways, but... one of my absolute most treasured possessions.

I wonder why he added 'Jon'...peculiar.

Sap can be good!
I wonder if he keeps his fan mail. Hmm. That would be sweet. And I wonder if he actually reads all of it. That would be sweeter.
Anyway, someone gave me a copy of a copy of a picture of him from a magazine. Maybe Showpeople? Does that make sense? Anyway, I sent that. I have a bit of an addiction to autographs so I like to have more than one.
Haha. That's awesome! I've only had him sign playbills at the stage door but he took up the whole space. Fine with me, though!

Aw! I love that he signed it "Jon".

i think i will but what do i say? i don't want to get him mad or annoy him.
I see that a lot of TTB stuff that he signs - CD jackets my friends have, etc. He had said something about wishing the poster that at least had cast credits and names on it was still circulating, and that there used to be one. He seemed surprised that I'd dug this one up, at any rate.
This is really high on the emotional scale, but after I listed to that American Theatre Wing interview, I think I realized why he signs "Jon." I had made fun of it at first, and been like "no, I thought he played SUSAN," and figured it as some strange gesture of diva-dom. But after hearing that interview, and learning that he felt such a connection to Jonathan in the sense of him being a character he played, and in the sense of him being an incredibly capable person, and a huge loss to our community. I think that his ability to tap into the show's themes, and how important the project was to him, and how PROUD he is of that... I think that's why he signs it. When I realized that, the poster suddenly meant the world to me.
I'd like to think he reads the stuff. When I got the photo back, something told me he read what I wrote to him - something about the wit and... can we call it charm? that was in my little note back. Maybe I delude. Who knows?
This one, yeah? As soon as I got it, I was like "HE NEEDS TO SIGN THIS."
It's kind of odd that I haven't actually had him sign a Chitty Playbill yet. I've accumulated the strangest things - CD inserts, etc, but no Playbill. All in time...

That's definitely a treasure you have!
I think it's incredible that he gives so much of himself to his characters. So much so that they become a part of him. I think that shows how talented he is. It's not something I can say about too many other actors.

That's the one!
He's rather hairy.
"ugh!"
I laughed ALL the way home. More power to a man who can wear chest hair so well.
And yeah - there's nobody like him. I've never seen (and never will see) another actor like him.

Hahaha! That's so funny.
I think he wins the award for best personalized fanmail.
I love it - better than just a scribble of a name. Shows that he has a good sense of humor.

And very pretty hand writing.
Better than mine.
*swoon*
dlthom, just keep it short and sweet; tell him that you greatly admire his work, etc, etc, and that you'd be honored if he'd sign __ for you. He won't be mad!

k or maybe i could just write him a note and give it to him in person.
is he shy or does he talk to fans? i would like to talk to him sometime.
You could mail it, or drop it off at the stage door. Either way, you'll get it back. Or, should you get lucky, you could just have him sign whatever in person, if you can catch him.
He's softspoken and shy, but quite a sweetheart, on good nights. If he goes out the stage door, chances are he'll sign autographs and take pictures more-than obligingly, though (not to scare you) like any normal person, he has his moments and can be a little snippy. It's a crapshoot, though, as he's often sneaking out a different exit. And even though he is shy, if you can break the ice, he's friendly enough that he'll be pretty chatty. He's one of the most incredible men you could ever meet, though. Good luck!

okay thank you. i like to know he isn't afraid of his fans. some actors like that bother me.
but i wouldn't blame him. i think all those kids at the stage door might get annoying.
The funniest thing about the kids is that many of them don't understand that the people in front of them, signing their Playbills are actors playing parts. They're not actually Truly and Caractacus. It's kind of amusing to watch the parents (and sometimes the actors) try to get the point across.
And no, I wouldn't call him afraid, at all. If he's in a good mood, he'll ham it up for the cameras for a good twenty minutes or so, and is really good with the kids, etc, etc - I could go on. Just one of those genuinely good people.
