"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

See Emcee, now if (WHEN!) I meet him, I'm going to pet his jacket just to see if it's true.

wickedrentq, I'm 5'8, so I guess Norbert would be shorter than me. That's even more weird, when you're staring down at someone you (figuratively) look up to. Especially when it's a man. It's just awkward.

Did anyone see this? Comments on a thread at datalounge about the Costello benefit concert. Doesn't seem that Raúl was too popular there. There are 2 reviews posted in there, too. I hadn't read the NYT one yet.
Apparently the threads aren't accessible at peak times. It took me a while to access it.

Hope this link comes out ok. Never posted a link here before.

Raul is never too popular on datalounge. Alas.

They probably dislike him because they've got issues with Raul and his sexuality, and because they think he's bitchy. It's all rooted in the same crap and I don't liiiiiike it. Clearly he's a bitch with no talent because he doesn't wave his flag the way they want him to. argh.

edited for too much said.

It'll probably make you want to hurt them and hug him.

From School of Rock: "you're tacky and I hate you."

ugh. A lot of it is the usual bitter queen bitchiness of Datalounge, and then there's one legit review that's negative toward him, even though it says he IS undeniably talented.

*kicks, loathes*
Some of the stuff they say is tooooootally tasteless.

Heh, you're right. Most of it is garbage anyway. The one line about Broadway performers pretending to be rock stars was basically enough to make me realize these people had no idea what they're talking about. Um, it's for charity, not them attempting to make a crossover. If they didn't want to see Broadway performers, why did they go in the first place? They should have just sent their tickets to me.

And yeah, I read some of the tastless comments. a complex fellow

Someone posted the NYTimes review of the event. Finally a voice of reason in the thread.

As for the Times review, I absolutely love the phrase they used to describe his vocals -- "ferocious, operatic primal screams." Really, they might as well have just come out and said that he sounded like he was having screaming sex. It's certainly close enough.

Poor Raul. Datalounge is so awful to him. a complex fellow

Had a dream about him last night. Kept patting his butt. It was solid as a rock. Don't find butts like that often sadly. :)

Don't we all wish we had a tenth of his talent?
