YES I KNOW I’M SICKMINDED, BUT EVERYONE LOOK AT ADAMS LEFT LEG.

re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

Besides the extreme raulturtleness, that is… beyond interesting. Everyone else looks fabulous… except for Raul…

Is it a problem that I have this bizarre picture in my head of Raul going up to the Stage door at the O’Neil? “OMG! Jonathan! I love you!! Could you sign my playbill?!?!” And personally, I don’t give a crap if he’s as incomprehensible as I am, just give me more material to laugh over.

I didn’t like Spring Awakening, but I understand why many did. I thought it was something extremely new, but not something necessarily good. In a Broadway environment where we’re getting Tarzan, Marry Poppins and Little Mermaid one right after the other, it’s electrifying to see something representing our current teenage culture. Even if some elements of Spring Awakening were entirely weak, It’s entirely clear (at least to me), why Raul and whoever else are having fangirl attacks over it.

I agree more with Craww than I do with Skittles, because it’s not Raul’s responsibility to be entirely serious and explain every emotion he has over a show every single second he mentions something in an interview. He’s allowed to f*ck off, and allowed to be a fanboy. Even if you are appearing in a Sondheim revival, you’re totally allowed to appreciate or like or whatever Wicked or Rent or Spring Awakening. I didn’t think you weren’t allowed to have specific opinions about other work based on what material you are currently performing.

Skittles, another thing; I know I’m having a bitch attack here, but you obviously have some unsettled issue with him that is sort of bleeding into your posts.

On an entirely different note…

being that I don't particularly associate intelligence with Laura Bell Bundy.

LO-FCKING-L.

‘scuse, if Adam’s playing anything, It’s gonna have to be Paulette. Adam and The Bend and Snap are a natural pair.

Craww's avatar is definitely a good example of his "bend and snap" material

I don't think we're saying he necessarily has a "responsibility" to be articulate all the time -- we're just judging him. re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

I can't claim to speak for her, but... she's a fan. That doesn't mean she... well, we, really, have to like everything about his off-stage persona. I know I sure don't. And no, I'm not talking about entitlement to autographs and things like that, before anyone assumes.

The only time I've ever seen Laura Bell Bundy in person was at an event during which she walked around with her bright pink thong hanging out of her pants. If that's not annoying, I'm not sure what is.

Judging is fun!

I dunno… I guess.. if I was even slightly in the public eye, I really wouldn’t want to be forced to say something about every thing that I’ve mentioned to like I would need to back up.. well, I guess it’s a bit ridiculous.

I knew this is going to cause controversy, and… I meant it. I’m always too nervous/paranoid to stage door as often as many, so I’ve never had a negative run in, but.. I don’t know. I feel like it’s just been a negative voice that ticks me off.

Em, I know you’ve had problems with him specifically… and I know everyone has had a problem with someone, and you’re not being a pain, actually quite the opposite, but..

I’m not articulating well, I just felt the need to respond as quickly as possible.

I guess... it's that none the less, you have to get over it. I know that's awful and mean and... bad... but I don't get why on earth they need to be negitive to everyone else simply because of a problem with him.

... see the "I need to learn how to refine what I say" bit.

Heh, before anyone runs with that... I had one bad experience with him. I don't like, hate him for it (obviously), and I think it was a fluke. He's moody and everyone is entitled to bad days, but it still wasn't fun. No, I'm not going to tell the story. But, FWIW, skittles and I are good friends off the board, and friends have the liberty to react to and judge the experiences of those they care about. Again, I don't want to speak for her, but... if she feels the need to be the reminder that he's not the saint this thread occasionally likes to make him out to be, then I think that's her prerogative.

Actually, Craww, your avatar scared the hell out of me the first time I looked at it. In a good way, naturally.

Just because someone is a fan of a certain performer, they aren't required to view said performer with unadulterated admiration. You can highly respect a performer's work, but that doesn't require a total lack of objectivity. The fact that skittles doesn't pretend Raul is perfect human onstage and off shouldn't be construed negatively. It's not good for anyone, us or him, if we put him up on a pedestal.

I agree, but it's also my prerogative to say that it ticks me off when someone adds something with purely negitive intentions.

Oy vey... this is not going to be fun for me, is it?

Sorry if that was bitchy - not intended to be an attack. I'm jet-lagged. But... it's not good to label any critique of Raul as off-limits. It's easy to slip into that mindset of Raul being perfect (which is far from accurate), and I never got the impression skittles was being malicious.

Um, I said NOTHING of that nature. Please take the time to comprehend what is written before accusing people of a sentiment that never appeared in any of their posts.

Skittles, another thing; I know I’m having a bitch attack here, but you obviously have some unsettled issue with him that is sort of bleeding into your posts.

No. I'm just realistic enough to realize he doesn't walk on water like many new thread posters seem to believe. Just because you have your head in the sand doesn't mean everyone does or that I have "issues" for not being in the dark.

Trust me, if I wanted to be malicious towards Raul, I'd have much more fodder than "Ew, he likes Spring Awakening!"

re: The Official Raúl E. Esparza 'Spread the Love' Thread, Part 3

I'm a little too much on planet not to justify that entire thing with a response, but the thing is;

If my head is in the sand, and I personally think that it isn't, who on earth are you to judge me? Who said it was your business if I think that Raul Esparza is the f*cking king of the universe? The state of denial that I may or may not be in is absolutely none of your business to analyze or judge.

It was SO good. Laura Benanti was surprisingly excellent. I saw her in The Wedding Singer and Into the Woods and was not overwhelmed, but I thought she was really great in this. And Patti was AMAZING. She got a standing ovation after "Rose's Turn", and the entire cast came out for many, many bows. Great acting all around.
