hmmm, I don't know about this competition. They're so different looking that it seems odd to compare them. I'm interested in seeing Jersey Boys though. He's (John Lloyd Young is his name?) been praised so much for his performance. It seems like it'd be a fun show. I heard someone in the theatre talking about Sweeney right afterward and then they mentioned seeing Jersey Boys and said they really liked it and had a lot more enthusiasm. That makes sense given the two shows; it depends on the person's taste, which is why I find it really impressive that Sweeney is doing so well. But maybe I'm underestimating audiences. I'm curious to know what audience reactions have been like at your shows, because I know they can vary greatly. The people around me didn't seem to be too enthusiastic, but other than that, the theatre was just silent the whole time except for maybe two or three general laughs, but those weren't whole-hearted. Then at the end, there was a lot of enthusiastic applause, which was encouraging. It's hard to gage audience reaction, I guess especially as an audience member. Even though I've heard actors talk about it, I wonder to what extent the Sweeney actors can do it when everyone is as silent as they seemed to be today. And now I'm babbling.
Chrys, what did Michael say in his Tony acceptance speech?

Siren, it was a beautiful speech. I damn near cried.
I'm gonna give you a little back story simply becuase I have nothing better to do. First of all, the Best Featured Actor in a Musical catagory was presented by Phylicia Rashad and Puff Daddy. YES, Puff Daddy. A.k.a. who the f*ck cares... there have been too many changes to keep up with. Anywho, Puff Daddy announces the names. John Cariani from "Fiddlah on duh Wroof", Michael McKelroy "Big River", Michael Cerveris from "Assissins", Rah-ool ESPARAHZA "Taboo" (Right then and there I wanted to leap through the tv screen and kick his ass) and I can't remember if there was another nominee which is now going to drive me nuts. Anways, Puff Daddy anounces the winner, and Michael was SHOCKED. He didn't have a speech prepared. He gets up there and he goes "Wow. This is a picture I never thought I'd see." and all sweet and irresistable like he is he chirps in with "It's me and PUFF!" And Puff Daddy goes "Yeah!" And Michael is just on cloud nine wondering what the hell is going on. He actually has no recollection of his speach whatsoever! Anyways, he said something like he was honored just to be in the same category as the other nominees and basically dedicated it to them. He said John Cariani is the sweetest person in the world. He said Michael McKelroy has the voice of an angel. And he got to Raul. He said something like "Raul Esparza, who will be up here any day now, I'm sure of it." I was like "Oh no he didn't! He had to go and say the right thing!"
Thanks for typing that! And might I just add, I LOVE how you told the story.... like, I feel a little bit like I actually watched it now.
Michael was great in (what I've seen of) Assassins, and I can't wait to see him in Sweeney Todd. He definitely intrigues me. I also hope he was right about Raul.

LOL! Thanks! Actually, you know what.... I might be able to find the link so you can download it and watch it! I will go browse Michael's site for it! (You know, since I have nothing better to do!)

#%#)%*#)@!
I knew there was another nominee! Denis O' Hare! Sorry, I forgot Denis!
Anyway, here's the link. It's cool too, cause she actually has the whole speech transcribed so you can read it, too.

Thank you for finding that! I might have to go on another rant about my loathing for RealMedia files, though... I don't think that I can watch it. It's great to be able to read it, though.
I should explore Michael Cerveris's website myself sometime... it seems like he has a lot of great stuff there.

Oh you are welcome! His website is so incredible. It's part of the reason I have stayed up till all hours of the night. If you are ever bored, he has a journal from when he played guitar on tour with Bob Mould. It is *so* interesting. He just writes things that are so incredibly smart and beautiful. His such a gifted and talented and smart artist. He can do anything that's artistic. Which is no wonder, his parents met at Julliard! Really, the man is just so talented, so modest, so sweet, and so easy to talk to. And his brother, Todd is the same exact way! I don't know how they do it. I've never met their sister Marissa, but her brothers dote on her and her son all the time.
And I have officially turned this thread from Raul to Michael. Sorry about that! I will now get back on topic! Oh, heaven help me if the two of them ever do a show together. I wouldn't know which one to look at! I'd have to train one eye to follow Michael, and one eye to follow Raul. Brokeback Mountain: The Musical, anyone?!

I don't think I've ever seen that before.
I love that he's still hot with facial hair. 'Tis a rare thing.

It's from Sunday in the Park with George.
And Siren, I totally agree. And I can honestly say his beard is *SO SOFT*. Which actually really surprized me.
Awww. As if I needed anymore reasons to like him.
Nice pictures!
Sunday was so, so, so, so, so good. I loved both of them so damn much. And now I have the windowcard. Yay (I love you, orangeskittles)!

I want a revival of Sunday *so* bad. But the second act is just...flat, compared to the phenominal first act.
I know this pic has already been posted on this page, but I just really looked at, and I think he looks absolutely beautiful.
I can't really explain it...
Teehee. Love you too, ang!
*hasn't seen Sunday yet* (but it's on the list)
His hands! His arms!
I agree, Elphie... he's like a work of art. Almost... statuesque, I guess. I lack the ability to describe it.
It's very sensual.
