My God, I love this song. Everytime I hear it, I'm crying by the end of it. Call me a sap, but I love it, no matter who sings it.

I like it, too. My favorite version is by Karen Carpenter.
My favorite is from Vonda Shepard. LOVE it!
Surely Kermit's version must be your favorite!!!!

No matter how great the vocalist no one can beat Kermit on this song.

Hehe, before I saw more of the replies I was about to scream out that no version is better than Kermit's! Ha.
I actually did a report on Jim Henson in 7th grade. I particularly remember a section of the book about muppet songs and he said in an interview he was completely shocked that he ever had a hit in the country-he thought he had one of the worst vocals ever. Then again, he said he was more shocked with "C is for Cookie(loove that song")-he said Frank Oz's voice was worse than his. Hehe, I love muppets!
She's sleeping, beacon. You just missed her!
Frank Oz does Grover's voice, and therefore is amazing.

Well, I like Kermit's version; but prefer Karen Carpenter's version.
awwww kermie.
did anyone see justin timberlake do this w/ him on snl?
Was that the episode where Timberlake dressed up as an omelette?
I have to say that I prefer the frog. Kermit really nailed the emotional content of that song. Let's hear it for Kermie!
*shudders*
What creepy memories I have associated with this song. It involves a musical theater group with an insane director, this song, toys coming alive, and Christmas.
Sorry Emcee, Grover, Cookie Monster, etc. were all good, but without a doubt Frank Oz is the best because he's MISS PIGGY!! She's been my favorite muppet from my first exposure to them, through "Muppets Take Manhattan," "Muppet Babies," and "The Kermit and Piggy Story" which was a video made that highlighted their moments on the Muppet Show. Seriously, he could sing higher than I can. He just took her from like nothing in the first season of the Muppet show to the diva and almost everyone's favorite. In fact, she sang one of my first Broadway songs on the video and I still love her version best, "I Enjoy Being a Girl." Hehe, love muppets again!
Whatever did happen to Paul Williams ? He was hot for awhile & than went poof

I REALLY miss Jim Henson. All the newer Muppet movies have sucked - and Muppet Wizard of Oz looks like the worst!
I must agree Jon. The quality of the Muppet productions has gone down since Henson's death. Muppet Babies, Fraggle Rock, and The Muppet Show were the best.
i loved when justin sang it on SNL with kermit. so funny. and yes, that was the one where justin was dressed up like an omlette....
There’s a great version of “Rainbow Connection” by the Dixie Chicks on a children’s benefit album that came out last year (“Mary Had a Little Amp”).
I love Kermit's version and also Jim Brickman's.

Kermit was the best. Jim Henson had an amazing voice...well many amazing voices, and was really a talented puppet master. Kermit's voice doesn't sound right anymore, and he dosen't have as many facial expressions.
I, myself, prefer the song "It isn't Easy Being Green"...that one just chokes me up every time I hear it.
Hands down, my fvorite version is Kermit's. Such a great song...
And I will always miss Jim Henson. I was crushed when he died and I was just a kid.
back in 8th grade, i was an MC for the talent show and there were 2 6th grade girls who sang it... they were sooooooooooo good... it sounded so innocent! we all loved it!
