Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's masterpiece THE RED SHOES is currently playing at Film Forum, in a magnificent restored print. I just got back from a screening.
I have seen the film many many times over the years. I have it pretty much committed to memory. This is one of the movies I basically grew up on. And I was absolutely dazzled by how incredibly beautiful this print is.
It is a religious experience. A great mad orgy of colors and pictures, just a total feast for the eyes and ears, and you miss it at your peril. No serious lover of movies can afford to let this go by. This is one of the great experiences of a movie going life.
Let me go further. Beware, those who have the chance to see this film and pass it up. I hereby put a curse upon you all, you deniers of genius and beauty: to not revel in THE RED SHOES is to be condemned to a lifetime of Clint Eastwood and Brad Pitt and MILLION DOLLAR BABY.

I was quoting a Chorus Line, silly.
I actually love the Red Shoes. And I am a moron but I have excellent taste. (except in men)

The curse only extends to those who have the opportunity and pass it up.
This print will apparently be shown around the country. If it is shown withing driving distance of your home, and you are not physically restrained from seeing it (as in, in the hospital or jail), you are obliged to see it or be subject to a lifetime of Lifetime movies of the week.

"as in, in the hospital or jail"
So you're probably still okay, Phyllis.

Red shoes are so 80s.
And Reggie, they certainly don't go with top hats.

Posted: 11/10/09 at 2:51pmThat's a b&w photo. It may be a red top hat, for all you know.

Shame on Roscoe for not knowing that Chorus Line quote!
I very much look forward to seeing this.
