Picking just one of them is hard, there are some nice lookin- boys in that company...
I live in suburban Ohio town; it's pretty dull. I was in NYC briefly last spring, my only time.
"have any of you been to NYC? What did you do? How does it compare to where you live..?"
I go up to NYC about twice a year from Orlando, FL (not as expensive as most other folks; my dad does ads for hotels and my mom's a flight attendent so that's half the cost there)
I see as many shows as I can cram into the vaca days (matinees and evenings) courtesy of TKTS
Every time I go to New York, it feels more like home than Florida ever does

i live on long island... about a half hour train ride to the city, so i'm there all the time. me and my friends sometimes just take the train for the day and hang out there, wandering around and popping our heads into whatever random store catches our eyes, sitting in central park ALL DAY, seeing broadway shows (OF COURSE), etc.
nyc is SO much better than my town. it really is boring. basically there's the beach and the movie theater... no bowling, no mall, no arcade, nothing to keep a bunch of teenagers occupied. i've had times where i've seen every movie in the theater twice cause there's nothing else to do... ok, i'm ranting again...

I figured it'd be too hard to answer, anyway. The men in the original cast... damn Haha.
To answer YOUR question --- I'm a semi-frequent NYC visitor. The city doesn't let me leave without visiting the Nederlander at least once. It's almost sad, that I can't leave New York without seeing RENT. I'm going December 4th. And then going again in January. Hoooorayyyy! Compared to where I live, NYC is actually alive.
By the way, I'm Heather. And I'm completely random and off-the-wall. YAY.

rent vs.. zanna don't
bare
Ave Q
hard to say...
haven't seen zanna don't (and don't think I want to)
Avenue Q - would compare more to "Runaways" stylistically
certainly more than it would to HAIR or RENT... granted the subject matter is far racier...
I've seen bits of BARE and heard the album - just MHO but next to Jonathan (to quote MC Hammer) "can't touch this" (bah ba da bum - bum bum, bum bum...)

'so tell me -
have any of you been to NYC? What did you do? How does it compare to where you live..?'
Nope, never been to NY... but my voice teacher used to be one of the campers for cheap Rent tickets...If they hadn't changed it to a lottery I would definately be one of those people But, I bet if I ever did go, people would have to drag me home, because I live in a boring small town in TX, and anything would be better than here.
I'm originally from a small town in upstate New York, but I go to Columbia, so I'm proud to say that NYC is now home. When it all came down to making the big decision, I just couldn't leave New York; I'd miss it way too much. My hometown is considered a suburb of NYC, so it was always convenient to come down here and visit. My parents exposed me to all of the wonderful cultural opportunities here when I was very, very young, and it always stuck. This really is the greatest city in the world.

Re: NYC
Yes, I've been to NYC. The last time I was there, I had a Rent audition (coincidentally) and a Ringling Bros emcee audition (don't say anything.) Got to have dinner with some amazing composers, and saw Wicked, Little Shop, Rent, and Avenue Q.

People I know often call it 'Dying in America'.
So the whole cast doesn't know the song title? That makes me laugh, but not in a mean way.

cool
I'm orignially from St. Louis and I know how those of you not in the area feel....
I couldn't wait to get there!! And I had a blast believe me!
But after 20 years, I had enough.... I've sort of turned into my Mom I guess having kids of my own helped that.
Now - I don't need as much "excitement". I've pretty much done all the parties, shopped all the stores, worked with all the celebs... it's just a paycheck for me now - though I'll still always have a love for it. (not like LA - no check I'm NO WHERE NEAR THAT PLACE - UGH) (no offense to you Calis out there...)
For those of you who live near and are going into the biz...
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS AND BE REALLY NICE TO YOUR FOLKS --- You'll be needing them down the road to be sure...

Very fond of 'What You Own' as well... sang it as a duet with a friend a year or 2 ago And I also LOVE TMOLM... it just totaly brings out the diva in both actresses, and whoever thought a break-up could be so damn sexy/fun to listen to!
I've always wondered... did you and Idina sing like that every single performance or was the recording a special occasion.. some parts of that song sound a little painful to the pipes if sung in that way 8 times a week...
Then again, you are the professionally trained singer, and I am not...
Uhm, I know this has [sort of] been asked, but I figured I'd put my own little detail into it --
What's the most recent cast you've seen in RENT?
By the way - thanks again for not telling me where to shove my questions

More power to the midwesterners who live on corn. (Amish country corn- good stuff)
Do you usually call Anthony Ant? Is it a nickname?

we were exhausted when we did the album... it was MUCH more intense onstage... EVERY night (I'm proud to say)

i think the corn did something to your diaphragm (i think i spelled that wrong) -- it made you able to sing well!
