Fredi, just wondering- Do you have any kind of Rent memoirbilia? Costume pieces, a poster?
Emcee, she was suprised?

fredi, that is interesting. instead of having your kids learn about all that from the media, entertainment, etc., you tell them yourselves. this way you can totally control what goes into their heads and HOW they learn about it...
Second, Beka, WHERE did you get that pic of Adam and Anthony?
i have no idea... i don't remember. probably some random rent site... since when i'm bored i type "rent broadway" into some search engine and see what comes up.
haha, you bet, insomniak.

True. But it suprises me that it suprised her that he said a curse word. Just funny.

there is no doubt that people relate to the characters.
I saw old conservative men BAWLING when Angel dies and I LOVED that.
I also know that RENT is to you all what CHORUS LINE was to me (and there is a little bit of cussing, etc. in that if I remember correctly).
Nor am I foolish - my kids hear more cussing, etc on the bus too and from school than RENT could ever provide them - which is why our discussions are always so open ...
they will see RENT eventually to be sure... right now I have them "hooked" on musicals that are a little more age-appropriate. But they are hooked on musicals!!! How I love that!

- my thoughts exactly.
Would you be willing to email it to me? I want to add it to my RENT section on the refridgerator at work! lol (long story) lol
So long as those kids are hooked on musicals!!

Before that, he was just the Egyptian captain who her daughter talked about all the time. Pretty Egyptian captains do no wrong, apparently.

My mom is exactly like yours Greenifyed. She listens to Seasons of Love and she enjoys that. But she's very against the play because of my aunt. My aunt saw it like 5 or 6 ago and she wanted to walk out after Angel kissed Collins. Drag queens, lesbians, gays, all turn my mom off. I believe I was 12 or 13 when I was introduced to RENT by a friend of mine. I wasn't allowed to see it. It was my decision to see it when I turned 18 because I was an adult. I'm 19 now and I have seen it twice.

What musicals, Fredi? And get 'em while they're young, kids my age think musicals are 'too lame' to glance at.

^^ oh yeah, i know, i thought you meant WHERE, like online...
fredi -- at least you have them hooked on musicals! the beauty and the beast/lion king generation grew up to be the perfect age when rent came out, and for many those 2 musicals were the building blocks. and the fact that they hear more cursing in school -- that is SO true, so you might as well tell them first and leave your imprint while you can.
That's what GOOD parenting is.
Bad parenting is turning on MTV and thinking that's being open with your children.
[edit] - haha - someone beat me to the "good" parenting comment. Well, it's true.
nevermind, it's been said

They also like CHITTY...(natch - how can you not?)
and 7 BRIDES...
They've seen most of the MGM's and all of the DISNEY collection.
I've let them watch GREASE (which is about the raciest so far) they weren't that impressed! LOL!

I did see a BCEFA eBay auction on an Angel costume
I think the LVB one
I'm happy to say that my mom loved Rent when we went in June, and that she grown obsessed. My dads willing to go again, since he took me the first time. Shes completly scratched up the second disc of the OBCR by listening to it so much. I saw Rent for the first time when I was about 10 or 11, but I know I didn't fully grasp everything untill at least a year later. I know it still impacted me greatly, because while I remember going to all of my earlier musicals, Rent is the only one that I remember what happened on stage durring the musical.
ah, gotta love Singin' in the Rain!
Well then I am just going to have to get the Rent Bible. I adore the picture of Adam and Anthony!
Im also really surprised more people haven't jumped in here with questions...We have a nice little group of people chatting with Fredi!
