*sigh*
I saw Rent when I was ten/eleven years old in NYC. And I hated it. Yeah. I regret that one. I wish I could have appreciated it back then. It took a few years afterwards to get over myself and actually try listening to it again.

how'd i miss this?! *cries and prays that fredi comes back*
She's coming back, ponine...she said she was. And we've been trying to keep it quiet.
On that note...maybe we could slow this down a bit? For now?

"We’re not going with Frenchie. I found someone new, a woman named Tracy Thoms, whose had a lot of experience, is a fantastic Joanne. Anyway, so these people have been through it and I wanted to capture that emotion on film, so I thought it would be great to get them all back together."
Whoa, that was an interesting part of that interview with CC. Does he think that Frenchie was OBC? Not only that but she's not Joanne! Or was that a slip and he meant Fredi? Interesting.
Nah, I think he just meant that Frenchie was a "name" he could have cast who at least had a bit of a background with Rent, but he went with Tracy Thoms, a no-name with more experience, instead.
I'm not complainin'! I've heard nothing but good things about Tracy.

Agreed, NTG. We don't want to pile up too many pages of threadjacks for Fredi to read.
And happy day-before thanksgiving, everyone. It was so nice to not go to school today.
Fredi, is there any chance that the OBCers who aren't reprising their roles will be involved somehow? I would love to see everyone make an appearence.

The thing is, Tiff, he was talking about the OBC, if that is an accurate transcription. He mentions Taye, Jesse, Idina, Adam, Daphne, then starts talking about Frenchie. Totally unrelated. Anyway, I'm thinking he meant Fredi. Doesn't matter, but just interesting.
Oh, sorry to do this, I'm not usually a grammar nazi but the past tense of cast is cast, not casted. I see that so often on theatre forums and just cannot let it pass! :)
No worry on being a grammar nazi. Believe it or not, I am too, and I totally missed the "casted" thing. We need to watch each other's backs, you know?
Where's the article you're talking about? I read it a while ago, but I don't remember the context that Frenchie was discussed in. Either way, by most accounts, she's come off like an ungrateful and unjustified diva, so she probably wouldn't have meshed well with the movie cast anyway.
Sorry about the threadjack.
So how's Fredi doing today?
I thought you hated the third person thing, Tiff...
Fredi, did we scare you?
I abhor the third person thing. Why? Did I miss something? ::looking around the recent posts here::
Welcome Fredi!
I found out about this from Greenify
I'm not all too familiar with Rent. I know some songs, and I know that it changed a few of my friend's lives. But, I look forward to getting to know more about it
I only have one question right now:
I'm an aspiring actress, and the one thing that I have trouble with is auditions. How do you deal with them? I always have trouble being myself :-p

Tiff, there's a link to it on page 19 which Beka posted. I'd copy it here but this computer is doing weird things and I'm not sure it would work. :)
This thread is awesome
FREDI YOU ROCK!
Don't want to bombard with questions so I'll stay quiet for now hehe.

HAPPY PRE-TURKEY DAY...
some interesting questions....
*I'm an aspiring actress, and the one thing that I have trouble with is auditions. How do you deal with them? I always have trouble being myself :-p
This is everyones problem and it's a BIG problem because auditions are the name of the game. It's like the lottery - "ya gotta be in it to win it" or "no auditions, no jobs!"
So - my secret is to not care about them. I know that sound funny and this is not to say that I don't prepare for them. But, instead of worrying about getting the job (which I have little control over) I do auditions for ME!! I concentrate on doing the utmost with the material I have, whether I chose it or they gave it to me(which is more often the case for me now...) I enjoy it to it's fullest because this may be my only chance to perform it - and then I forget about that audition and start preparing for the next one. Making sure you have as many auditions as possible is always good. Not only does it increase your chances of getting a job (the more lottery tix you buy...) but it decreases the time you have to be worried about the last one. It's a paradox to be sure - but what in life isn't? Another paradox? The less you "seem to care" the more relaxed and confident you seem to be and therefore the more attractive a hire you become. Funny, huh?
*Fredi, is there any chance that the OBCers who aren't reprising their roles will be involved somehow? I would love to see everyone make an appearence.
Me too... write in - make them use us!!! (I wonder if that would work?
*Ok, Fredi, some random thanksgiving-related questionsm and some other totally random ones
1. What is your favorite part of thanksgiving dinner
cooking it...
2. Your least favorite part?
shopping for it...
3. If you could live any place for a year, where would you live?
I've been blessed to live everywhere I've ever wanted to including: Paris, San Francisco and, of course, NYC. I'd love to see Africa and Japan before I leave this earth and now the only place I really want to live is back in Barbados when my husband and I have fulfilled our career ambitions here in the states.
*now to my questions: What was your Rent audition like?
Like any other - you go - you sing your song (I sang 3 Dog Nites' "Joy to The World") - you go to the callback - you sing something they give you (for me "Seasons" and "we're Okay") - sometimes there's a second callback (in this case not)- your agents haggle over which role you get...(they wanted me for Gwen - my agents insisted on JoAnne).. you sign and start rehersal
*and what was the rehersel processes like?
professional and without drama - (that didn't start till Jonathan died...) for me - that's the best kind of rehersal process..
This might sound a little harsh and for that I apologize ... but you need to know that it's not this "family" thing the way it is in High school and regional - yes, you make friends but this is a job now in the real world... people have families at home to go to.... you go to work in this biz like any other. I really don't mean to burst any bubbles --- put professional theatre is just that... work!!! In a very serious way. Most people are struggling to pay bills their ENTIRE career - Broadway does not pay what you might think... and people are not really as "buddy-buddy" as you might expect. on RENT we were an exception - even before tragedy brought us even closer together - but this is not the norm nor can it be an expectation. When you get a gig - you go to WORK. You show up on time - learn your blocking and music, don't suck up too much to the creative team, go home and do your homework so that you don't hold up rehersals the next day. If you are fortunate enough to be a part of a cast that becomes a "family" count your blessings. I tell you guys these things because you need to know the truth of the biz so that you are not so terribly dissapointed when you get there (as I'm sure you all will ) and realize that it's not like in the movies....
*On opening night before the show and after the show what did you all say to eachother, could you say anything or where just totally overhelmed by what had just happened on stage?
There is no way I can remember that... it was SOOOOO intense and most of it is a blur - I have flashes of moments that are crystal clear but the rest of those first 4 months is a fog...
*Also have you read any plays by Federico Garica Lorca ( blood wedding, yerma, dona rosita the spinster)?
I'm sorry to say I have not... I'll add them to my list
I'm glad to see you guys asking about auditions and stuff - i teach a class in this and normally people pay to pick my brain... think of it as a holiday gift and get it while it last....!!
*Fredi, dogs or cats?
Both - it depends on where I'm living as to what kind of pet I'll have - right now - we have a bird (a peach-faced love bird)

D**n TIFF - It's about that pic - whoo - hoo....!

Why thank you. I told the gals on another thread it was just me and my boy messin' around with some Absolut and I grabbed the webcam and he agreed to pose. You know how it is.
Good answers, btw. Esp about the myth of the "typical Broadway family".
Sorry for having another random moment but...
Would you tell us more about your lovebird?
(I have two...and Cockatiel and a budgie)
I love how that got asterik-ed. You can type in Cockatiel and it'll work, but not cockatiel.
Wow, Thanks for the insight.. It's good to know how you deal with auditions and such.. My biggest issue is always the audition because that determines what if any part you get.. That's where my nerves are terrible. After cast lists are posted etc, I'm fine.. You have no idea how much you talking with us is appreciated.

maybe you should tell me more about your birds...
do they get along together even though they are different breeds?
do you cage them together...?
we let ours fly free - do you?
this is our first bird and we are still learning... we are seriously considering a partner - but were wondering if different breeds would live well together.
fwb
The birds...hmm...where to begin.
No, they don't really get along, but that could be because they're all different ages. They do look at one another through the cage bars and talk to each other though.
We cage them all separately because we've observed that if you cage two birds together, they bond to each other and don't want to be handled anymore.
We do let them out to play every so often, but only ever one at a time because they have occasionally attacked each other.
Lovebirds can either stay really tame or turn really really nasty. Both of ours are still tame because we handle them almost every day...the youngest literally likes to be cuddled. I suggest if you get a second bird, don't cage them together...and maybe look into a white face love bird. They tend to be tamer.
Wow...sorry that was so long. I like the subject, can you tell?
"I tell you guys these things because you need to know the truth of the biz so that you are not so terribly dissapointed when you get there (as I'm sure you all will ) and realize that it's not like in the movies...."
showbiz. it's just showbiz.
so I guess Broadway is less Camp, let's put on a show and all be friends, and more All About Eve, back-stabbing and b*tch-slapping

Interesting schpiel posted on broadway.com moments ago, regarding the Rent film (Fredi, you get mentioned.) I put the link at the bottom of this comment.
Well I'm off to spend some time with my girlfriend (who just got back in town) I'll check in late tonight. Happy Pre-Thanksgiving, everyone.
