so I guess Broadway is less Camp, let's put on a show and all be friends, and more All About Eve, back-stabbing and b*tch-slapping
it can be all of the above and then some....
still wouldn't do anything else!

What would you say are the worst thigns about being in the biz?
Haha...it really is an addiction.

worst things about being in the biz...
1. never knowing what your next gig is or when your next check is coming...
2. the ego stuff (but that's the same in any profession)
3. the feeling that your "ability to book a gig" translates into the value of your self-worth (this one is EXTREMEMLY DANGEROUS and all precautions must be taken to maintain a strong and balanced pysche...)
This is getting depressing again...can we go back to talking about lovebirds?
Kidding, kidding...
BEST things about being in the biz
c'mon, we're mostly young dilusional wannabes with stars in our eyes
happy thoughts too

it can get hard, no lie... I remember the year I almost quit...
the year I couldn't get a chorus job in ShowBoat... can you imagine...
Thank God I didn't though.
And you know what's funny about the ego thing? It seems to start at the bottom rung of the Hollywood/Broadway ladder! Appalling.
Are there a lot of politics in Bway? (I know there's politics in every profession, but I wondered if it's better or worse than in Hollywood.)

Hey, Star2b, I got my rock O Holy Night approved for Christmas Eve...don't ask how I pulled that one...but your CD has officially corrupted me...

NTG, go pet Aurora! (we're on break, woohoo!)
and now back to your regular discussion
Yay for Aurora! She is my therapy.
(That's the cuddly lovebird. See? We're back on topic!)
Well, you know, it's true! I used to do a lot of extra work in films/TV (until I smartened up and went into a different part of film production ) and I was SO jaded by the politics and nastiness that goes on. It was the main thing that turned me off it. Even EXTRAS! Showbiz is vicious a lot of the time. My love of performing arts keeps me in the biz, but I would never go back to extra work. *shudders* Definitely useful info to have before you throw yourself into it.
I always wondered if Bway would be less nasty, because for some reason I figured since it was such a relatively small community, people would be more cautious of how they act and talk about each other.

lots of politics!!! Showbiz is Showbiz.. East or West coast...
the best things about it...
this - right now
thrilling audiences all over the world
seeing the world and getting paid for it
doing what you love to do and always knowing within yourself that you gave it your all ("what I did for love...")
kiss today goodbye...
so Mrs.Browne, I'm guessing you're a Bennet fan?
I grew up on Dreamgirls and Chorusline myself

Heh...it's horrible when you even see that in something as small as high school. Especially egos...I've met some high school kids that have bigger egos than Broadway stars.
Fredi, do you still get an adrenaline rush when you go on stage?
(hey, star2b, you posted at the same time as me...look at my earlier post)

Fredi, do you still get an adrenaline rush when you go on stage?
sometimes... ususally I'm to into my story and the life I'm living... it only happens when (for whatever reason) I'm able to disengage and realize I'm on stage....

Love both those shows... had moved to NYC as DG was on Bway - had to good fortune of being a regular at the DG "prayer meeting" hosted by Ben Harney between shows on Weds...
Met Bennet, Holliday and the entire original cast... bit thrill for me a young woman of 19 or so.....
Chorus Line was my RENT - helped me define myself and crystalize my ambitions... was able to thank Priscilla Lopez in person for that last week....

tehe
hmmm, let's see
Star2b's Corruption List for NTG
Rent: check
Avenue Q: check
Carols for a Cure: check
very good, now when we get back to school, I gotta complete my Dreamgirls course
And Godspell.
And you have to read my novel
Slightly off subject here, but Fredi, you mentioned that you're a big South Park fan. Well a while ago a friend of mine and I were listening to RENT (cuz that's what we do when we're together) and we came up with "South Park Does RENT". Yeah, we were kinda bored that night and we come up with some really weird things when we're together. So, anyway, here's the list of the characters based on our opinions.
Stan-Roger
Kyle-Mark
Cartman-Mimi (not a big fan of Mimi, plus can you just hear it. "They say that I have the best ass, below 14th street... HEY look at my ass. I SAID LOOK AT MY ASS BI*CH!!!" Yeah. pretty sad)
Bebe-Maureen
Wendy-Joanne
Token(Sp?)-Collins
Butters-Angel
Tweak-'The Man'
Mr. Mackey-Benny
Timmy-Blanket Woman
Kenny-Soloist 1 (is killed by a falling light while singing)
Yes, I know. Pretty sad huh? But we had a great deal of fun doing this.
Also Fredi, cool about the bird. I've got two great dogs, a pure-bred red-nosed pit and a collie mix.

you are my hero!!!!!!!!
I got to see Ms.Holliday play Effie in a regional production in Atlanta about 2 years ago. It was PHENOMENAL!!! She can still make em jump after "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going"
please tell NTG that she NEEDS to buy Dreamgirls!!!!!
cuz I really need to be told *again*
Christmas, Star2b, Christmas...and you really can't talk, considering what I have that you don't...
Look I scared everyone away...
So, Fredi, will you tell me more about your lovebird now that I shared? How old is it? What's its name?
