actually, it's really surprising, RENT doesn't have a warning, like avenue q does. i was EXTREMELY surprised when i heard that. but i guess some of the references, like in la vie boheme, go completely over some people's heads.

or maybe it went up before they started all that madness...
(could be partially responsible *oops!* )
But CD Ratings were around in 1996 were they?

i ALMOST missed the post message button and clicked the "also send responses to my email address" box. that was CLOSE.
BEKA, I did that once for the Angst thread during its peak. Ouch and a half.
Wow, my crush thread is getting trumped my a thread dedicated to a straight 16 year old boy. *sigh*

i'm not sure if cd's were being rated then...
i don't think anyone considered b'way shows to be like "regular" cd's but after we went platinum in less than a year - they thought again...

Yeah, on bway.com and in the lobby of the belasco, it says Dracula is rated PG-13 for nudity - I was thinking why didn't Rent have that warning (I think AQ may be rated - or just have a warning other than the jim Henson one).
AQ is the only Bway CD I've seen with a "parental warning" on it - not even Rent had one...
Yeah, they were rated in '96 - I remember Jagged Little Pill was rated and that was in '95.
Oh btw, Cam, you're wanted on my crush thread.
Oh Tiff you are too much sometimes..
That's funny Fredi.. I love that song I can picture the dance as we speak..
On a side note.. I know they are doing the film version, but I do wish they would release the stage version too..

i don't think they were around in 1996... if i remember correctly CD ratings are a fairly recent thing.
Hedwig is the first "Showtune Album" to have a warning
Q is the 1st official Broadway "Showtune Album" to have a warning
Hmmmm interesting about the nudty clauses...
Weird, but interesting...
And yea... Rent would totaly be AT LEAST pg-13.
Wait, are we talking "ratings" like having those explicit lyrics/content stickers on the covers?
**looks intrigued**
hmm I'm wanted.. ok

thanks for that info star2b....
i do believe RENT is (more than) partially responsible for all of that..
I'm not surprised.. But it's better to have that then to be censored..

i think my first parental warning CD was blink182 enema of the state. i still listen to that CD probably once a week... one of my all time favorites.

i'm sure rent is VERY responsible for that. what other show talked about masterbation, dildos, and had live sex scenes on stage?? that's why we all love it... it's our guilty pleasure

ok, can we all answer this? i've always wanted to hear this answered, for some reason...
what are all the broadway shows you've seen, and how many times?
It's so dirty is fabulous..

let's see how I first heard about Rent:
I honestly had no desire to see it since it wan't like the typical musical...my friend went to see it and came back saying how great it was and told me the line "left him a note saying we got AIDS, before slitting her wrists (or throat, i forget) in the bathroom." So I said, sounds like a fun musical and took my 70+ great uncle to see it (well, he took me). I was embarrassed sitting there with him (and now we are seeing AQ front row)...nevertheless, I enjoyed it and saw it again with my friend (when she wanted to ask matt to the prom)....
Rent is still the worst (as far as language and actions go) show I've seen - worse than AQ in my opinion...
