Here is a place that will remain free of screaming twelve year old Wicked-boppers.

If you have ever seriously posted something like "OMG I LUV IDENA AND WICKEDDD!!!!!!!!" this thread is not for you!

Here, we'll intellectually discuss the show, its performers, staging, score, and book.

No negative comments like "WICKED SUCKS, SHUT UP" will be allowed...

Yay!!!! A thread for me. For the record, I used to be completely obsessed with the show, but I never posted stuff like that. I still adore the show, and people still call me "obsessed," but I am also very sane.
So, what do you guys think about Wicked's sets? I think they are amazing...very impressive. Especially the moving thingies, whatever those are.

Good thread...

As I have seen the show three times, I have come to love it. I have also learned to seperate it from the original Oz book and movie, because none of them make sense when you try and find the similiarities. (Although, it still angers me that Boq becomes the Tin Man, when "Wicked" the book, kept the actual story of how the Tin Man became that way in "Oz")
I do not find it to be Shwartz' best work, musical-wise, but I am finding myself addicted. I didn't want to see Shoshana in it, but now I have to. I love JLT and can't wait to see what she does next.
And I agree, those wicked fans were getting a bit much. Like that thread started about how they hate Dorothy and when they watch the movie, they scream at her for throwing the bucket of water. (They have to be idiot's, because if they knew what happens to her after she throws the water, they wouldn't be acting retarded). Okay, now that I have said this, I don't want to turn this into a Wicked Lover's Fan bashing thread.)
As for the show, in a whole, it's clever. They still should have kept the darkness in it (like the death of Dr. Dillimond), but I liked it for what it was. I have no doubt that it will have a long and successful life on the Broadway stage.

P.S. Does anyone notice the witch's shadow in the clock during "No One Mourns the Wicked"? I didn't notice it the first time.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

*hugs* Thank God. I've never seen it (THANK YOU, MOTHER), but I have read the novel and own the OBCR

I always feel terrible because I don't want to ever be associated with the fans but I really do love the show. No it is not flawless, but I have a very strong emotional response to the show nonetheless.

Justice,

re: The Sane Wicked Fan Thread

Sorry, not that it changes color, but that the town outside dissappears...

It really changes colors during the Wizard and I - which is more obvious!

liam, that is ALL spelled correctly!

i realize that written word and stage are two TOTALLY different mediums, but i don't like how far away the plot of the musical moved from the novel. it was watered down and simplified SO much. a lot of the original genius plot/character ideas were lost when it transfered to stage, which is a shame.

alright. Thank you, found myself a thread. It'll be good if you could keep it ongoing. Alrighty, lets see. I'd like to begin by saying that I'm sorry that idina broke a rib and especially sorry for the people that bought tickets for her last night's preformance. Now, Popular. Some find it annoying, others find it cheerful and witty. i'd say both... but perhaps its only annoying for me because I can't master the mixed voice patterns for that. definitly a problemo!

BSoBW2, I don't get what you mean about the landscape in For Good. Can you explain? Thanks.

I'm going to be blatantly honest: I went to see the show to see Kritstin.
Ms.Chenoweth has been a hero and role model for me since I was ten years old but You're a Good Man Charlie Brown closed before I could see it so I never had the oppurtunity to see her live.
Until Wicked. And I couldn't be happier that I did re: The Sane Wicked Fan Thread Updated On: 1/12/05 at 07:17 PM

oh, yeah, i've noticed those lighting changes.

i think the plot change that i most strongly detest is

::SPOILER::

that elphaba doesn't die at the end! what is up with that stupid trap door thing? they disney-fied it! OH NO, THIS IS TOO HARSH! SHE SHOULD MIRACULOUSLY LIVE!

and the fact that dr. dillamond doesn't die is a shame also. and there's no mention of his research about Animals.

and also, fiyero's sudden love for elphaba is really strange. my parents didn't understand why they all the sudden they fell in love. i also remember the first time i saw the show, i knew it was almost over, and they HADN'T FALLEN IN LOVE YET! i really thought that stephen cut out their relationship, and i would have been REALLY mad.

I can't believe it's taken this long for a thread for normal Wicked fans to be created! Props guys. And I enjoy the show very much, although not to obsessed proportions. It's got its flaws, as every show does, but the performances from the OBC and the art design was overall really fantastic.

BSo...
That is a great picture. In the show, their choreography is the same, (Glinda and the shadow) with their arms, which works very well) and the cape in the picture, looks almost like it shadows Glinda's dress.
There is a lot of subtleties in the show that I find fascinating. I think my favorite is the "twister" we see on the scrim after she melts.

My major pet peeve is the fact that Elphaba allows herself to be become "Galinda-fied" at one point. It's somewhat of a break of character in early scenes, but mainly from the book as well.
Not during "Popular"- there's a scene like that in the book, but I believe in the next scene?

Technically (technically) the novel never said she dies...nor does it say she lives ("not yet")

I thought it was pretty obvious from the Lion cub sequence that Fiyero and Elphie are falling in love - but it could have been clearer...

Justice, my favorite would have to be the joke by Mme. Morrible no one ever seems to laugh at (excpet me):

MADAME MORRIBLE
Ah, the governor made his concern about your sister’s well-being quite apparent, so I thought it best she share my private compartment, where I can assist her as needed.

ELPHABA
Oh, but I’ve always looked after my sister.

MADAME MORRIBLE
Ah, sh, sh…he didn’t mention you. Oh, slight gulch. Not to fret, we’ll fine some place to put you!

Beka...
I have to say that I slightly disagree. When I read the book, I knew what was coming, and even though I knew, I was hoping that somewhere there'd be a change. I like how it ended, because it left your imagination to wonder.
Then, when I saw the show, I was pleased with what they did. I also thought that worked well, because i, as well as the majority of the audience, did not want her to die (which is why she gets applauded every night when that door opens)
And even though Morrible does not get killed, I like the turn with Glinda's character, because in the book, Glinda never turned, and you never did come to like her, the way the musical does.

BSo..I notice that line every time I see the show. Probably the most clever line that refers to the movie.
